  1. I would suggest that you are careful about how much flavour you put into them as too much seems to confuse fish and it can actually prevent you getting pick ups. chris yates tells a story about the first time he tried to use boilies. he said he put some out and there were fish all over his baits for hours and he deemed them rubbish as he never got a bite. when asked about his flavour levels he said that he saw the recommended dose of 5ml and thought that wasn't anywhere near enough so he used the whole bottle :D:lol:~8

  2. Has anyone come up with a proposed solution to their stated issue (i.e controlling 2 rod use to only carp fishing)?

that's why I suggested the use of the hair rig as only carp anglers use them and they aren't anywhere near as effective when used to fish for other species.

  3. I sent an email telling them why my British friends chose not to fish here and suggested that they consider allowing anglers who are using a hair rig to fish with 2 rods. Got a reply saying they are considering it, are worried about the impact on other fish and that it will take at least 2 years for the law to be changed.

  4. just wanted to ask :)

I have an elasticated 11m pole I used back in the UK and found it great fun fishing for smaller fish. The thought of a big carp on it scared the crap out of me. It is very exciting and exact fishing though - great fun :)

I did see a guy catch a 35+ mirror on a pole once. It managed to break the pole but he got it in after a 1 hr 20 min battle.

He was absolutely made up as I am pretty sure it was the UK record for a fish on a pole at the time. I was gutted as it was a fish I dearly wanted to catch and had spent ages trying to bag him only for some 'noddy' to turn up and bag it on a double maggot under my feet :D

  5. I am now convinced I am a jinx and will never catch a Canadian carp :D

Thank you for a great session Shawn - I had a great time and really enjoyed the evening and learning more about the Canadian ways to catch fish. I can't wait to get myself sorted with a pin so I can have a go with a float :)

Well done on that fish at the end - good angling indeed!!!! I just wish I could have stayed longer however I look forward to the next time!

Watching the marathon wasn't all that bad as there were some great sites during our stay although what they thought of the two hairy carp anglers, one of whom had the chariots of fire theme tune playing from his pocket as they ran past :D

Here is a short clip of that bloody band playing the most boring tune going! They started at 7.40am and were still going when I left.

  6. my other halfs uncle is always going on about a recipe he has for carp. he says the fish needs to be cleaned, gutted and then salted. the fish is then stuffed with mixed herbs, garlic, butter and lemon rind and then wrapped in foil and placed on the BBQ. after it has been cooked for about 45 minutes, take the fish from the BBQ, immediately throw it in the bin, get in your car and then drive to the local steakhouse and order something edible :D

  7. those ESP particle pults are brilliant but a few people have issues with how long the elastic is so you may need to cut it down a bit.

I have had one for years and love it - hope you do too :)

  8. i totally understand! Im a bit of a ham, and go a little crazy when im by myself for hours on end lol - hope my lacking attempt doesnt offend any brits! :icon_smoking:

    ha ha ha.

never! it beats my in(out) laws as when they try they all seem to sound like they come from india.

just wait for my canadian impression :)

  9. I have to say that I am not a fan of those flat mats. they aren't that big, get very slippery if wet and if a carp is flapping about offer next to no protection. I wouldn't use it as a weigh sling either as there doesn't appear to be a way of securing the sides so the fish can't slide out. Check out the JRC Euro zip mats - you can get them for about 40 bucks in the uk. The ultimate mats are the carp cradles IMO. I had one in the uk and it was perfect - have seen them with fish in to over 60lbs and there was no way it was goign anywhere. the probelm being that the bigger they are, the harder they are to carry.

saying that - some unhooking mat is better than no mat at all.

  10. I think the thing about particles swellingup in fish is a bit of a myth - they make their way through the carps digestive system in minutes so IMO they won't get a chance to swell up. the main reason for boiling is to release sugars and make them more attractive to the fish.

there are some good info on kidney beans on the ccmoore website I think.

    good luck :)

  11. empty sack into a barrel and fill with water.

create a fire under barrel and burn for a few hours.

    leave overnight.

take maize out as and when you want it - just scrape away the cruddy top layer and get to the goodness underneath.

for flavourings I don't think you can go too far wrong with salt and sugar.

  12. smaller hook could be sharper?

bigger hook could be easier for fish to detect?

smaller hook less likely to catch hold?

lots of theories on this and I think it can be down to fashions. from my 'match' fishing days in the uk and fishing more pressured waters, smaller hooks and lighter lines got more bites. the difference between hook sizes when fishing for pan fish would be the difference between a net full of fish and a blank.

such a shame we can only use one rod as it's so hard to compare. tell you what - on our next session we'll set up our terminal tackle as close as we can and I will use small hooks and you can use large and we can do a comparison :)

  13. I always had the impression that they were trash fish because they tasted like chit?

In the UK they are THE fish to have in your lakes now and big farmed ones go for silly money. If someone can advertise a 40+ in their lakes then the banks will be packed every weekend with people paying $40+ per 24 hrs to fish for them.

If it takes off over here then there is big big money to be made from the tackle and bait game.
