well done guys - that ship is a Superb backdrop to your pictures!

he was a fascinating man and I think I am right in saying he went on to invent a few other things later on in his life. he dropped out of the mainstream carping media and still fished pretty much up to when he died - there is a bench as a memorial to him at the woolpack fisheries in east midlands, UK.
There has been some debate as to whether they actually invented the hair rig though - especially as there is actually evidence of similar rigs tied up by russian fisherman dating back to the turn of the 20th century. Sadly we will probably never know as lenny is RIP and kevin maddocks (allegedly) wouldn't know the truth if it walked up and shat on his doorstep.

some useful info -

This is pretty much the same stuff they use for catching mahseer in India isn't it? I reckon if you mixed a load up with salt, chilli powder / paprika and some oils (hemp, chilli, fish) you would end up with a great instant bait.

Otters also like carp if there are no trout around.
A few of my old haunts in the U.K. were decimated by otters.
Very sad
major environmental disaster waiting to happen there. as soon as the carp are gone then they will move onto other animals and with the otter being an apex predator and people still encouraging their release I fear they will not realise the damage that it is doing until far too late (and will no doubt look to shift the blame somewhere else).
best thing that can happen there is for some otters to start ruining the nesting sites of some rare birds so they get the RSPB on their backs.

I thought the 40+ was referring to the age of the guy that caught it. I was gonna suggest it looks like a mid 50

had a guy in a small yacht go through my line in the UK a few years back. was brand new 20lb fluro and I was screaming at him to watch out for it when he came in close. he said he wouldn't catch it but still managed to hook up and wasn't too happy when I managed to actually stop him in his tracks and cause the boom to swing around and catch him on his shoulder. Oh how we laughed at him afterwards

I think there are few people that owe you a beer Dave.
Well done!

They didn't bring any Carp in on the boat, but I can confirm for you that there is Carp in Grenadier Pond. I have caught several there on float bread, all under or around 10lbs. You can see them rolling on the surface, or cruising the shallows in the evenings.
thanks for letting me know - I may go for a walk around down there then.

love it.
had me and my better half giggling away.
well done mate - a great haul - you have more patience than I did when I was down there
-
looks like you guys had a fantastic weekend - well done to all involved.
now I have to ask. did they get any carp when electrofishing High Park. I have heard lots of rumours but have never read or heard any confirmed catch reports...

I have never been to Pier 4 before - where abouts will everyone be meeting up / fishing? I have had a look on Google earth and it looks like a pretty big park?
Thanks

cool - thanks for letting us / him know Mark

great vid and write up Tony.
them carp are clever. I reckon they are practiced in dark arts (not bowfishing ) - knowing what bait is the hookbait is witchcraft I tell ya - witchcraft!!!

That's fantastic and made me laugh out loud!
Is that the worst put down ever? So bad it is actually a really great compliment!
Brilliant!

Loved this when you showed it to me Mark
Can't believe I have never seen that Windfinder site mentioned anywhere before either. I have had a look at the UK and it goes down to extremely localised levels. Very impressive!
