  1. Small urban river at the moment. I fished the st.croix this fall without luck but no doubt there are monsters in there. There is a big reservoir by my house that I want to explore this year. (Lake zumbro) This years goals get my first MN 20 and master the float.

We should get a MN carp fish in organized on a lake with some strategic prebaiting.

  2. more specifically any positive experience with a particular brand/product or bait that is dark brown or black? There is so much to chose from and I want to narrow my search. I can only afford a few new baits and value your experiences more than product labels/advertisements.

  3. I know that bait color can be as important as flavor at times but I don't know how to use color appropriately and need some insight. I was most interested in using the colors yellow, pink, white, and glow in the dark.

What color is the best in full sun, partly cloudy, overcast, rain?

What color is best for clear water, stained water?

What color is best for weeds, silt, rocks?

    Thanks for all the help

  4. I have had good fishing throughout summer thanks to this wonderful site however the bite has just died for me this last 3 weeks.

I am in north Ohio fishing primarily Lake Erie and near by reserviors but I can't find the carp. Do they typically go shallow, deep, by lillies/weeds, current, no current, boat channels ,ect, in the fall? Do I need to change up hook baits? I have been using maize, wafters, fake corn. Do I need to change my oat based method to gritz, or bread?

I always hear the rumor that big carp come in the fall but I can't catch any now. Appreciate the help.

  5. I can see how very sane individuals end up having dozens of rods. There is a rod perfectly suited for a specific job but hardly a rod suited to every situation. I will continue my search keeping the saxon high on my list. After the description of the st. croix from early I think I should also look into the 9'6'' avid carp with has slightly lower test curve than the 12' but the same through action. Maybe be a good float and light method rod?

Any other suggestions are welcomed and needed. Thanks

  6. The only carp rod I have used is a 3.0 Daiwa Mad dragon it does the job for method balls but is too stiff for floats. I am worried that another 3.0 12' carp rod would be too stiff also. Maybe the mad dragon doesn't do justice to the smoothness of other carp rods. What is rod recovery?

The versitily of a twin tip sounds great but is it a jack of both trades and master of none? Anyone have first hand experience with these?
