1 question is there really a need to cast 120yd+? I think 1 of the rules to join team was to cast 150 yards I think I'm not sure please clarify anyone that knows.
If it is does that have to do with structure of the lake not having anything in front of you that you'll have to cast that far I used to fish a lot more and will fish around a lot of people I wouldn't cast half of what they were doing but I'll certainly catch some fish even more then them. Just wondering since it is a lake and like all lakes there is 100xxxxx+ of fish I don't see a need to cast far. Not trying to step on no one's toes just a real honest question!
On many lakes and rivers(rivers not quite so much) under intense tournament angling pressure the fish move out of range of all the bankside disturbance...they know something unusual is happening and scarper.
I once fished a virgin lake in Sweden, a few guys pre-fished it and all caught hundreds and hundreds of fish all day long. Come the day of the tournament the combined field weighed in perhaps a couple of dozen fish...all caught at maximum range way beyond where the majority of the field were or were able to cast to. This behaviour can be observed at many events...CAG and others. It doesn't always happen but if it does you need your team to be able to cover all the bases..

Here is a translation of the rules...The F.I.P.S event rules are incredibly stringent...in an attempt to level the playing field...developed after years of angling shenanigans...

There is already a Paylake World Championship, the whole rest of the world isn't interested, and unfortunately, the USA, in carp angling terms, will always be looked down upon as long as bow fishing is legal, endorsed...and celebrated...
It's just fishing Tom...you big Troll...

There is a picture post of the current standings on the facebook page looks like Italy with 40 + pounds followed but England and France. I don't know if my conversions are right or how the penalty affect the standings. Still 15 of 24 with no fish.If someone knows how to move that image here it might help some follow along.
The penalties are where each team pairing finishes in the separate sections..it's 1 point for first place in a section, 2 for second and so on down to last place...hence no fish means several teams have full penalties. This scoring system gives a truer reflection of the angling skill relative to the fellow competitors in a given area of the lake....basically, it reduces the element of luck...

Tom I got no dog in this fight. IMO some people went fishing, great. But IMO you comparing anything to feeling raped is a Big mistake.
Good work...

I guess catching the lake record at the world classic on Madine was just a fluke too.GUSTom.
Nah..that was top angling with some good fortune thrown in...you don't target big fish after all do you? Seriously though, the F.I.P.S
Tournaments are a totally different ball game...ultra strict rules developed over fifty years to create as level a playing field as is possible...most venues wouldn't even qualify for hosting the events..incredibly high angling standards will be on show for all who are there...nerves will be shredded...grown men will weep...best of luck to team USA!
-
Not true in angling Tom...Team USA are consistent though....consistently last or thereabouts...across multi disciplines as well, carp fishing, coarse match fishing, fly fishing...I do believe they do quite well at ice fishing though...and if ever F.I.P.S decided to do put on a World Championship for how much ketchup you need in your rice I'm confident they would absolutely shine!Americans are the worlds best at adapting and overcoming. They should be given a chance to show THEIR stuff.. JMHOKindest regardsTom.
Let's hope these guys change some of that!

You mean when it suits your back door agenda surely?
-
My understanding is that bow and arrows aren't allowed in this event Tom...but seriosly...the team trials were open to all...

Is it " bad etiquette" to inquire as to what the winner used for bait? Im not sure if that info is ever shared at all.??? After these big events, we hear about the winners but not much regarding the details. I , for one, am very interested. Am I alone on this???
Bait?
Rig?
Time of catches early/late
Depth?
I really doubt that the bait factored into things very much at all...the fish simply were not feeding freely, most likely because of the sudden 10 degree drop in temperature. In my experience it is rarely good fishing when this happens. I can say that in the section I fished, Little sucker Brook, five fish that were hooked (two were lost) all came to simple field corn, maize, soaked in all different flavors, pineapple, whisky/vermouth, and plain unflavored....
It is quite interesting to speculate just how many different bait and flavor combinations were tried during the event...at the very least a hundred would be my guess....
-
A sudden ten degree drop in temperature the day before and during the event closed the fish down... It was some tough tough conditions and angling on the big river! Nearly everyone had a good story to tell regardless...Bob Bernowski catching sucker after sucker, Joe going in the river to net his one and only fish, Steve's hauling twenties all day long (pounds of weed per cast), rod care and casting lessons with Jerome, the pros and cons of horsing fish, Cory's lost thirty etc etc...
Huge congratulation to the champion Adam for cleaning up all the prizes on his first ever days fishing in the United States! Truly remarkable angling! My only regret is that he entered both side pots.....
If you were thinking of going to this and didn't, make sure you do next year! Thanks to all concerned for the time and effort in putting on this event!!
-
Bob, can you let us know exactly what sections will be pegged? I understand that this could change with a last minute surge of entries but as it stands, presuming there are 30-35 anglers, which sections will be used? Thanks in advance!
-
Here's a couple. Why is it that there are so many experts in carp angling? And, perhaps more pertinent, how is it that no two experts ever agree?? Just pulling yer leg....
-
Is there an itinery? Order of events, times etc? Apologies if I missed it...thanks.
-
A few questions Bob.
Will it be a fixed peg draw? You draw one peg and that's where you fish?
Will there be any pegs out of the main flow of the river?
Will you be running any side pots?
Thanks in advance...really looking forward to having a go on the big river again!
-
I'll be there...most likely have a car full though...will have at least one of my boys with me.
-
So will competing anglers be able to find out exactly where other anglers will be fishing? Can you move at random or would we have to notify you where we would be fishing in advance?
-
Sorry I left off the fishing times are -
Monday October 13th 10am until Friday 2PM =100 hours
Website should be updated by this time next week with more details and registration options. Limited to the first paid 100 Anglers.
The $100k payout for a new state record is in play for fish caught from the CT River and a few other designated(approved) venues we'll announce later. Only public fishing areas that any Angler in the event could fish may be utilized. No private property.
By public fishing areas do you mean generally known public areas (state parks etc) or, for example, if somebody knows of a 'secret' swim hidden behind some old garage somewhere that is open to public access...would that be acceptable? If the latter is the case, will the other anglers in the event have access to the information as to exactly where these swims are?

I'm in! Nice one Dave!

Still amazes me that people read one part of a story and are so narrow minded that it must be the truth.
Darn , I just dropped an egg, do I sue the supermarket, company or the chicken?
As far a customer service goes the "truth" is almost irrelevant...what you have is an unhappy customer, the company can choose to weigh up the financial repercussions of replacing an item and making that customer happy (and loyal), against the, on average (by research) ten other customers (and so on by word of mouth) that it will lose due to the bad egg...
Glad to be of service Craig!

Wow...what cheapskates Nash Tackle are..especially when you consider the minimal manufacturing cost...
I'd treat them the same way and order a new rod, swap the broken joint out for the new section and then ship it back and say it was broken in shipping...and then demand your money back....make sure you ship it back to them in rubbish packaging for maximum comedic value....

I'm in....bring your A game...

Well done all...and well angled Dave and Phil! A write up for the NACA to let people know what they might be in for at The CCC could be helpful all round?
Places to fish in Canton, OH area
in OH
Posted
West Branch is full of fish but they max out at around twenty pounds. Just about ALL of the public park ponds in Canton have carp in them. Best method is free lined bread...this works even in the depths of winter, there is a good head of fish in them, sometimes you just have to find them, spend ten minutes or so in each spot...and then try them all again as you move round the pond...I've never seen anything spectacular come out but it is a very enjoyable few hours...you can cover two or three ponds in a morning...rod, line, net, packet of hooks...and a loaf of bread...simple and fun....
