  1. I have been inspired by a firearms and hunting course to develop the vital safety tips for carp angling...This includes the necessary ACTS, and PROVEing the carp safe.

    Assume every carp is wired

    Control carp while lifted

Touch carp minimally to reduce slime removal

See that the carp has been successfully revived and released

Position carp comfortably on landing mat

    Remove hook

    Observe carp and take pictures

Verify the carp is ready to be released

Examine pictures once carp has successfully swam away

Hopefully these tips prevent any fatal carp accidents in the future.

  2. Last night, Me, Donnie, Mike, Tristan, and Ken met up for an overnight session at the beautiful, clear, clean, waters of the #### chute. I had been dying to get out for a while since I have just healed from a shoulder injury, and Iwas anxious to test out my new Daiwa Infinity Overnighter bedchair. Ken, Tristan, and I showed up around 6:30 p.m, it was already pitch black outside so we took a bit to set our stuff up. About a minute after I casted out my line with 3 pieces of pineapple cukk corn on a bolt rig, I was distracted helping the Uchida's set up the bivvey. All of a sudden my alarm sang, I set the hook but the fish brought me into a notorious snag. The slimy piece of gold escaped. I re-baited with the same setup and tossed in a small handful of Tristan's Trusty particle mix. We finished setting up the bivv, although we had to improvise a duct tape, "Red Green Show" fix to one of the poles. It wasn't long before Tristan's reel starting peeling line and he hooked into the first fish to be landed of the night. I went to grab the net but it was broken right infront of the spreader block. Ken and I quickly pulled another quick duct tape fix and made the new Korda 3Gr Red Green Net. A decent 12 pounder made it to the mat. post-6711-0-70256900-1353855566_thumb.jp

My alarm went off yet again only a couple minutes after tristan released his fish. I was on the phone with Mike who was on his way down, when this happened. "GET IT, NICK, NICK GET THE DAMN ROD!" Tristan yelled as I tried to put my phone away without tossing it in the water. My pod and rod were knocked right over, but I brought the fish in after a great fight. A thick 18lber. post-6711-0-06677200-1353855821_thumb.jp

The redneck duct tape tactics seemed to be working, we had a functional net, and a fixed bivvy. Mike and Donnie arrived and brought some much needed hot drinks from Timmies. The temperature was about 0 or slightly below for most of the session. Mike brought his ice fishing rod which he landed a high twenties fish on the other day. Ken got the next big catch. This thing was so big we thought it was a snag! Ken had his rod doubled over, using all his might when the beauty broke the surface...a nice miniature wooden rocking chair.

Tristan landed another decent fish and put the chair to use, inspired by Lorne. post-6711-0-92773000-1353856196_thumb.jp

Tristan's special corn must've had addictive qualities seeing as he got yet another, and another, a CFL regulation shaped 16lber followed by a similar looking 25lber.post-6711-0-64423500-1353856328_thumb.jp

We then went to sleep in the bivv, fitting my bedchair, tristans, and kens all in a one man bivvy. The night was filled with laughs, flatulence, and Ken catching a few fish which I didn't get a picture of since I was in a deep frozen sleep. It was a great session, lots of decent fish and some good friends to catch them with.

  3. Well, I haven't been up to much on the banks or CAG lately, I've had one carp session since august, that was the other week with tristan and mark, i was getting into a bit of salmon so i was distracted from carp, and i also have a few equipment problems that had been keeping me off the banks. But now ive broken my collarbone so i think it will be atleast a month before im out fishing again. I haven't stopped carp fishing or gotten bored of it, il be back at it soon so stick a few for me!

  4. Thanks buddy! From your avatar I can see that we both fished the same spot. 20 feet to the left of where you had your set up up a guy from Pennsylvania came by and was hooking fish after fish during the day when i had no runs! He was catching to the far left of his spot on only 1 rod ( he has 4 rods out ). The fish were anywhere from 8 to 15lb max, he thought they were bigger but the TOKS would never believe it, anyhow it was surprising to see that there were fish cruising that single spot and taking the bait. Next time I need to do some investigation myself!

    Good to know!

  5. tell me, what is your experience with the cat fish investigating that bait? The bait was devised to keep off the poisson chat, just wondering if its effective on our local bad cats?

    /?

I personally have never caught a single cat fish on it...ironically though, I believe Tristan caught his pb channel cat on one?

  6. If you have sleeping bags, cots/bedchairs, stoves, pots and pans then I see the problem. Go with the bivvy it is more stable in the wind, heavy rain, has a front door to keep you dry/warm, thicker material and works well in most Canadian weather. Also has beefier more stable poles and has taped seams for extra waterproofing. Like I said above, I have the Korum Multi shelter and you can use it 4 different ways to suit all your needs. I had my Bivvy up every time time I was at the Harbour and when they see it's not a tent they really don't argue with me.

I liked your review on the korum multi shelter, i know what im buying with my christmas money lol

  7. So your granddad decided he would rather eat donuts than sell them. Well he's a cop ain't he. What did you expect?

No disrespect to your granddad . I just could not resist. :)

    LOL

  8. Ron Joyce asked my grandfather to join him as co-owner in "a small coffee shop chain" , but my grandfather decided to stay in law enforcement...damnit! I could be on a similar yacht with stacks of timbits lol.

  9. Heres the answer..............drum roll please.............

    CARP LICENCE...........

Get them to issue licences for carp anglers..........pay double for the licence......and it clearly states carp, just like conservation or sportsman..........if you are fishing two rods and have that licence clearly fishing for carp........your fine. If you have that license and are using non species specific tactics.............BOOM! fine..........and if you dont have the licence and your fishing 2 rods.......BOOM! fine

It took you a few minutes to come up with a greater idea than a bunch of politics in the mnr office could for years lol
