  1. Great write up, Nick. Sounds like you guys had fun.

Thanks Mark :) i think im going to try and find a more productive swim though...this place just hasnt been very efficient for the amount of time put in.

  2. Over the last week me, Colin have been trying williams cafe for some carp. I figured since the weather has been great lately that they should be in there. We went down for our first session on thursday and used mussel corn as hookbait and egg layer as chum. We both launched our bait as far down the channel as we could. We sat around for about 2 hours with no luck then Colins alarm screamed off. He hooked into the fish and fought it for about 10 minutes when it finally reached shore and I barely managed to fit the large fish into my tiny net. It weighed in at 20 lbs.

As you can tell from the picture, Colin was as excited as a kid on christmas morning. We fished for another couple hours but to no luck. We dumped our remaining chum into the water hoping to attract the fish for the next day.

The next day we arrived at around 5 p.m just like the other day and we were astonished at what we saw. We looked over the ledge (where we had dumped our remaining chum) and saw 20 or so carp swimming in the crystal clear water. There were carp EVERYWHERE. But could we get them to bite? After about 30 minutes of waiting around like usual, Colin had to leave to get some equipment repairs. After he left I sat on my own for about 30 minutes just staring at my rod in anticipation. The water was so calm and clear, my line was perfectly tight, I had my bait right in the perfect spot...come on ya damn carps! Thats when my rod started bouncing viciously as my alarm screeched while my reel peeled line. I jumped up and grabbed my rod and hooked into the fish and began fighting it. A group of people gathered around as usual at this spot and watched me as I fought it. I reeled it in fairly quickly and the little scrapper weighed in at around 7lbs.

Colin came back and saw the wet mat, "You got one! Nice Burgiss!". We fished for a few more hours and just as we were about to leave my rod took a run. I set the hook but after about 10 seconds the hook pulled, I reeled in to find my hook severely bent and destroyed. This was probably cause by the many snags in the area which the carp must have brought me through or something? Dunno what happened really lol. Oh well...

Today we went at it again. I launched out 3 pieces of mussel corn on a self tied hair rig with new world carp size 4 hook and a drennan method feeder with honey flavored cukk chum. Surprisingly it only took 15 minutes to hook into the first of the day. I was sitting there watching my rod intensely when BAM my rod took a mega king kong colossal bounce. My line quickly went slack and I jumped up and grabbed my rod and the fight began. Everytime I started to gain line the damn thing took a run and took more line. After like 15 minutes I got the fish in close to shore and noticed the huge gut on it. I guessed that it must be near 20 pounds. After another 10 minutes of amazing fighting, the fish finally gave in and Colin netted her for me. She weighed in at 16lbs.

Tristan showed up not long after and we then blanked for the remainder of the day. the end.

  3. Great eating size aswell, crying shame them wallys be tastey! :D looks like a blast though, northern Canada is magical!

I know eh? ahah i try to eat more perch than walleye up there, the populations been a bit shaky lately.

  4. Way to go man, words cant describe how happy i am for you guys. Hey, that fish was landed on my mat! ;) hahah congrats. p.s do you or colin have my mat? Id like to come pick it up or get out for a session this week.

  5. Did it make it to the frying pan? Mmmmmmm

Unfortunately It didn't, It wouldn't have been enough for everyone and I need a new filet knife. I will definitely be cooking up tons of perch this summer, I found some new recipes.

  6. This past long weekend, all the guys in my family went up to our cottage (half an hour past north bay) to set things up, and try to sneak in some fishing. Me and my father arrived at noon on Saturday and were greeted by Cory and his dad who had been there since Thursday. Cory told me he had already went out once in the boat and caught a 17 inch walleye on a rapala crankbait, and a small perch on the same lure whilst trolling. This got me somewhat confident.

Saturday night me and Cory went out to hunt down some walleye...but my dreams were shot down as we got ravaged by black flies and came back in to land after 30 mins :( .

The next day we went out again and this time I covered myself from head to toe in clothing despite the heat. Id rather sweat a lot then get chewed to bits by those pesky little bastids. We were trolling again, I was using a size 2 mepps aglia spinner, Cory was using a 3 inch yellow mister twister grub on a 1/8 jig head. Corys rod took a huge bounce then he stood up, set the hook, and stopped the motor. "I've got one! Yep, I got one!". I grabbed the net and started filming the fight at the same time. After a short fight (typical lazy walleye lol) he had the 22 inch pickerel in. We immediately went back in and packed up our fishing gear and left the next day. Damn black flies.

  7. After yesterdays decent session, Colin and I decided to go down again today and give it another go. We hiked down to the farthest swim and set up. We launched out our rods, and started to get knocks, everything was going perfect. Then, 2 huge, vicious, diseased raccoons came out of the bush. They began growling and fighting and were clearly crazy. They started to molest my tackle bag and chum bucket. Colin backed away (raccoon phobia) and I decided enough was enough. I started yelling and stomping at the animals but they just ignored me. I started jabbing at them with the net and they backed off a bit, but wouldn't leave. In anticipation of a worst comes worst situation, I loaded my slingshot with a rock. I dropped the net and went to retrieve my bag when the bigger of the two charged me. In self-defence I teed-off and smoked it in the sternum with a rock. It ran off into the bush and the other followed. I love animals and would never attack one without reason, but things are different when I feel the safety of me, and/or my friend (s) is threatened. We packed up our gear and went to another swim. We set up yet again and within 30 minutes Colin hooked into his first of the night. The fish dragged him around for a good 10 minutes before he managed to land the strong 15lber.

Colin was more than happy, as was I. Not 15 minutes later, he hooked into another! He landed the 13lber and just before I could snap a picture, my rod screamed off. I fought the fish for 10 minutes while Colin released his. Colin went to net the fish and as It was inches away from the net, I kid you not, INCHES! The damn thing spit the hook! That was a kick between the legs. Another hour passed with no signs of fish then I saw my rod tip bouncing violently. I set the hooked and realized I had a catfish. Better then a blank! post-6711-0-26686600-1337221818_thumb.jp

Colin hookpulled about another hour later, then landed a small but healthy channel cat.

    post-6711-0-64683600-1337221884_thumb.jp

That was all the fish we caught. Surprisingly though, a smaller, friendly raccoon was at our second swim and I feed it some leftover sandwich meat and took a few pictures. Not all of them are psycho, but you can never be too careful.

  8. way to go sounds like a great day congrate

I end up fishing alone alot so I went out and got myself a Resistance tackle 42inch net and the float for it makes netting fish on your own alot easier might want to give it some thought.

Im currently looking for a bigger net, the one I have now is short, and very small, can barely fit an average sized carp in it...It's a pain in the ass, especially when your alone which I discovered today.

  9. As soon as I got home from school I went straight to a swim where I was going to meet Tristan. I arrived at the swim at about 4:30 but Tristan wasn't there yet so I hiked to a different area. I set-up shop, and 20 minutes later Tristan and...*drumroll* COLIN arrived. Yeah, the big guys back folks. Anyways they stayed at the original swim which was a hike away from mine. This was going to be my first session where I would be all by myself. After, 15 minutes, Tristan shouted across the lake at me, he was holding a small 5 pound common. I waited patiently for another 30 minutes, slinging out balls of bread, and handfuls of corn. Finally, while I was in the midst of listening to some G'n'R my reel started peeling! I set the hook and fought the fish for a good 15 minutes (the thing just wouldn't hop in the net). I finally got it on the mat and it weighed in at 15lbs.

Later, I moved over to Colin & Tristans swim where Tristan landed 2 more. Good short 3 hr session.
