  1. In this weeks episode we returned again to Chatfield reservoir in the hopes of banking that first mirror carp of the season.
I had blanked the previous session when fishing with Ron, his son Jordan, and James - well, I did catch a small catfish - but deleted that horror from my mind. Ron and I only had a few short hours to fish the windy afternoon. The lines were out fast, and Ron was rewarded with a couple of nice quick commons.
Would I finally get that mirror ?
Or would Canadian once again finish the session with a huge grin on his face as I made the walk of "shame" back to the car ?
    Hope you enjoy!

  2. The CAG COLORADO Challenge - 2015

Here we go, COLORADO carp fans, with the success of last years CAG COLORADO Challenge 2014 we will be repeating the event this year. For 2015 the Carp Anglers Group has again provided me with a set of three VERY nice Olympic-style medals (Gold, Silver, Bronze) for use as awards in a local event. The goal of the event is to promote catch & release carp fishing here in Colorado and showcase our beautiful carp fishing catches to the Colorado Parks & Wildlife. My thanks to CAG for providing us with these medals.

The medals will be awarded at the end of the calendar year, 2015, to the anglers catching the LARGEST common carp, by LENGTH, which has also been submitted to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and accepted, for their catch & release category, Master Angler award program, during the 2015 season. For common carp, this is 30" or greater in length.

As an additional incentive, for the gold medal winner, you will get the opportunity to spend a day on the bank side with the “UK Madman” and “CarpQuest” during the 2016 season in Colorado, “euro” style fishing for carp, with all gear & bait provided for the session and your use. I will even hand you your GOLD medal in person if you so desire. I have actually had to stop taking any more requests this year to take people out fishing with me - sorry, I am just way overbooked, so, this is your chance!

If there is a large enough number of entrants I may come up with some other goodies for the medal recipients !

    The rules are simple:

1a. Entries will be posted by replying to this thread AND by successful submission AND acceptance of a CO Master Angler award for that fish by the Colorado Parks & Wildlife. http://http://cpw.state.co.us/learn/pages/masterangler.aspx is a link to the CPW page for Master Angler awards. Click on 2015 Tab – your fish MUST appear under “common carp” with Released “Yes” during 2015 to qualify.

The replies to this thread should also include: photograph of you with the fish, the angler's name; the date and general location of the catch; the fish's length and weight (if necessary, a 'reasonable guess' will do for weight); and the "bait" used. Include just as many details as you're comfortable with -- it's not necessary to give away secrets, -- "corn", "dough ball", "boilies", or "puff and pack bait" would all be fine, even with no other details. Of course you are free to provide more details about your catch if you wish.

But the reply must include a photograph of the fish and angler holding it.

Your photograph must demonstrate appropriate fish care and handling. Fish being held up by the gills, vertical, gaff’s in their mouths, showing signs of excessive injury or bleeding, lying on the ground, i the dirt, next to a tape measure - will be disqualified – you are warned, so please don’t post your entry if it does not meet the basic carp care requirements ! No exceptions !

1b. Any indication that the fish was mistreated or was not handled with care and respect I reserve the right to disqualify that entry.

2a. As already noted, only fish caught in the state of COLORADO, USA, are eligible.

3a. Residents, as well as legal non-resident anglers, will be allowed to submit entries - but the carp must have been caught in Colorado.

4a. The contest is NOT limited to just full members of CAG.

To submit entries, anglers who are not members of CAG or who have not yet registered, to post on the Forum you can register as a forum guest. While joining CAG is certainly encouraged, it is optional, and is not a consideration for these awards.

5a. Entries are limited to common carp, including mirror, leather, koi. The carp must be legally caught using acceptable and sporting methods of angling (rod & reel, single hook). Grass carp captures will not be a part of this content. Cyprinus carpio only please.

6a. The fish can be caught in any body of water in Colorado where fishing is open to the PUBLIC, legal, including lakes, ponds, reservoirs, streams, rivers. Captures from private waters will not be counted.

7a. You can submit ANY of your captures for calendar year 2015, even back dated to earlier this year. However they MUST appear on the CPW website for the qualifying MA award and you MUST post picture of your capture, with details, on this thread. I highly recommend that you submit all your MA carp caught to the CPW Master Angler program - we really want to showcase the species and raise awareness that Colorado anglers love catching and releasing their carp!

I will not be posting pictures of captures for others, if you want submit an entry, you need to do it yourself ! I believe you have 60 days from date of capture to submit your fish to CPW for the award program. If you are having difficulties posting, or registering for the forums, by all means contact me and in the event of technical difficulty I will assist.

8a. ONLY one entry will count per angler, your largest for the year. Thus you cannot win more than one medal. You can obviously keep posting your entries, if your latest capture is larger than the previous one and replace your biggest fish.

9a. IF there is a tie, for largest fish, length by “, then the award will go to the angler whom submitted their entry FIRST on this POST.

10a. For the “Spend a DAY with the UK Madman in 2016” the date will be during the 2016 season, between the months of May and September, dependent upon my availability and weather conditions. I will contact the winner early in early in 2016 to get the ball rolling and start discussions of locations and potential dates. You must be flexible – sorry, I cannot control the Colorado weather or my work schedule!

11b. This contest is obviously based upon the “Honor” system. If your posted capture does not truly represent the length “ stated, then I will review the entry with some of the other CAG State Chairs to determine if it will be “accepted” or “rejected”. I reserve the right to “reject” an entry where the posted fish is deemed not to what is stated, whether it accepted by CPW, or not. Thanks for your understanding !

Entries are now open. Good luck to all!

Note: As with previous years, I have disqualified myself from this event.

So Colorado anglers, get out there carping, get some fish on the bank, pictures posted and your Master Angler award submitted !

That GOLD medal could be yours!

Last year's winner, and defending 2014 Champion, Jeremy Romero !

  3. Here we go carp fans, it's coffee time again, a new episode of CarpQuest has been released.

In this episode we are carp fishing at Chatfield with old friends, Ron and James, and one of my youngest fans, Jordan - what a great smart young kid. Ron and James once again were into the fish with James banking a real nice 17 lb MA common - well done James !

Hope you enjoy the episode as much as I did spending time with friends, albeit on a very windy afternoon.

    Tight-Lines,

    John
