  1. Here we go carp fans, it's coffee time again, a new episode of CarpQuest has been released.

In this episode we are carp fishing at Chatfield with old friends, Ron and James, and one of my youngest fans, Jordan - what a great smart young kid. Ron and James once again were into the fish with James banking a real nice 17 lb MA common - well done James !

Hope you enjoy the episode as much as I did spending time with friends, albeit on a very windy afternoon.

    Tight-Lines,

    John

  2. Hi Joe,

    http://cpw.state.co.us/thingstodo/Pages/StockingReport.aspx

If you checkout this website you can see all lakes and waters across the state of Colorado and when they have been stocked with 10"+ trout.

Rather than scroll through 20 pages of information, you can type the name of the lake or water into the "Search" box and find things quickly that way.

I do not see where Adams County Fairgrounds has been stocked with trout in the past year or so though. Back in 2012, after it had just been stocked, we could see massive schools of trout boiling near the surface, was pretty darn wild !

Note: CPW have been cutting back lately on put & release stocking on waters that get especially warm, as the trout honestly just don't do well.

I know a few people have been skunked at the Fairgrounds these past few weeks - even a couple that ran a belly boat with sonar and only marked a few schools of fish.

The Fairgrounds can be GREAT fishing, or it can be a blank fest for sure.

Don't forget there are a number of lakes in the complex, including the "Fishing is Fun" pond, a bit further up the road.

For baits/tactics, i'd go with Fisherwood's suggestion above and add to the mix, waxworms, I know that's what my neighbor got a real nice 16" rainbow on last fall from Adams. Remember, stalk the margins, especially once the reeds start growing up out the water again - you got to move around that place to find the fish sometimes. Try near the inlet over to the right side, as you come into the complex - i've seen some anglers doing well over there.

    Best of luck !

    John

  3. OK, i'm having a brain fail, where is the sign-up for the upcoming "Big-4".

I tried going through CAG Store - Event Registration.

There is a "Big 4" listed there, but when I try to register it gives me the error:

"You received this error because you are: Either not Logged in OR Not a CAG Member. (OR you've already purchased this item) If this is not the case, please contact support@carpanglersgroup.com"

Most likely human Finney user error ? I haven't purchased it yet, and i'm logged in ...thoughts ?

    Thanks!

    John

  4. Another great episode Mark and thanks for the shout out on the USA carp scene and the Arizona 40 by Bryce Gabriel. Oh what irony, Bryce's girlfriend, Kristine Vogel, topped his capture a week later with a stunning 40 lb 5 oz common. You go Girl - showing the lads how it's done !

  5. Bob, a valid point. Yet, I think it does help yes.

Colorado has a massive influx of anglers from out of state, the majority come here for the Gold Medal Trout fishing that can be had here. Why, because the state promotes and advertises trout fishing here, Colorado has the regulations and infrastructure to support fly fishermen.

It would be wonderful if anglers looking to catch pristine, wild, never caught before, common and mirror carp would consider Colorado as a carping destination. Our state has the highest elevation in the nation where you can catch carp, @9000+ft. We have stunning scenery and wildlife and some amazing State Parks and bodies of water.

Yes, we also have some strict regulations on chumming - basically, you can't do it ! PVA, it's a grey area, bordering on illegal depending on the official you ask. Packbaits - barely passable, best make sure your hook is buried into the pack. 2 rods, not 3, that is better at least than some states. Night fishing, allowable at most State Parks but not many local parks and so on.

If regulations can be changed, over time, to encourage and promote carp fishing in Colorado then hopefully it would attract more people here to fish. Are they going to "weed' our out of state responses, perhaps. I would hope they take a step back and look at not only what anglers in our state desire but also what anglers outside of our state look for when considering Colorado as a trophy fishing destination.

Here's an example of a beautiful 20 lb mirror caught this week, in frigid conditions, by one of our local anglers.

  6. Thanks Brian. Given it's a 5-year cycle here, CPW take angler feedback and use this in reviewing and setting regulations and priorities for the next half decade. It is very important that anglers get their comments submitted and voice heard. This survey is one example of what can do as CAG, coming together, as a unified force and voice, to assist in making positive change.

    Tight-Lines,

    John

  7. CALL TO ACTION: The State of Colorado has begun the review process for fishing regulations.

NOW is the time for you to complete the survey and put in a good word for Carp Fishing in our state.

Whether you would like to see our rod limit increased from 2 to 3, changes in laws regarding the use of PVA bags/mesh, would like to see slot limit and creel limit protection for carp, the formation of "designated trophy carp fisheries at Chatfield, Pueblo and Cherry Creek reservoirs".

NOW is the time to make your voice HEARD.

So, please take a few minutes from your day to complete the survey (link https://www.research.net/s/5yearfishing) and give carp fishing in Colorado a Fins-UP!

    Thanks!
    John
