That's a really great video.

clooping: means carp are eating things floating on the surface of the water.
OK, thanks for the explanation. Unfortunately, the only time the carp around here cloop is for floating bread.

I was fishing at central park in NYC. when the carp took my fly there was some daylight left (after 8:00pm) but it was almost totally dark by the time I was able to land the fish.
Ah, thanks for the explanation. Makes sense now.
-
Nice catch but what is clooping? I just got interested in fly fishing for carp and have not heard this term.
-
Nice catch but I'm confused, how can you catch carp on a fly at night? I thought you just about had to sight fish for them which sounds impossible at night. I have a lot to learn about carp fly fishing so pardon me if this is a dumb question.

I'm no biologist but I do know that shad are very susceptible to rapid temperature changes. We've had several shad die offs here at Clear Lake in Northern California that were due to sudden cold snaps.

Get well soon Mr. Big Bird.

I voted for Scotty but he's got some stiff competition. It would be fantastic if he could win, imagine a carp winning a photo competition with all those favored game fish.

Looks like anyone can do a personal attack on here but I can't even ask a question. Really great mod work, NOT!
No only dimwitted cag members. They just let you say how it is if it's true, lies are dealt with appropriately. If someone is full of chit and someone tells that person then it's all good but when certain people think it's ok to hop on a forum where the real carpers play and start trying to advise where advice isn't wanted then it becomes an issue, but I guess some peoples egos are far to fragile for that. Hmmm -
You've got to be kidding. USCarp Pro bans people just for a minor criticism of their behavior. While I totally disagree with the way Louis is treating the guests on this board, USCP is not the answer
There's always uscarppro! It's free and there's just as much knowledge there! Trust me you won't be disappointed. -
Tipping the glass a bit more than you should again Brid?
Seems we've accepted these 'none carp' into the fold? Aren't they White Amur? I thought we had a section for 'Other Species'?Rachel - I love your reports and pix -- but -- where are the REAL Carp? Let's keep it honest folks

Welcome to the forums.

This may have already been said, I tried to skim all the posts in this thread but may have missed some stuff.
Why not just have fish-ins or whatever you wish to call the event, that includes a junior division with the better prizes being given in that division. In other words, have a regular contest but focus heavily on the juniors. The adult division could be low profile so the adults that have kids in the junior division or just wish to help out can devote some of their time helping the kids while still fishing a rod or two. Truly very sad. Rest In Peace

Sounds like a great way to have a get together and learn more about carp angling without having to be in a contest. I think you have good idea going there. You might want to try and get it publicized in your local papers if at all possible.
Good luck and do let us know how it turns out.

I know its not a pod shot but heres one i took that i'm proud of
Hey Mick,
Here's a similar one from NCCC that I assume you took:

Nice vids, first time I've seen them actually laying eggs.
-
Not sure the yellow rods will catch on though...............
Actually, they're making a lot of specialized bass rods in yellow now.

Not a Crucian. Wrong body shape, wrong dorsal fin, wrong mouth type (crucians mouth is not at all like the vacuum on a Common), Crucians have no barbules, and it's too big.
I told you I was usually wrong.
-
I'm usually wrong but it looks a lot like a crucian carp to me.

. Some day I hope I will be the person that can answer the questions.
Jeff
Jeff,
The way you catch carp from what I've seen and heard, you're ready to start answering questions now.

Yeah, I bet it was. I have never caught a carp with a fly since they almost never feed in shallows here, I have caught many carp of 17 to low 20's with a 6 weight fly rod and reel, stripping out my baited hook and I'll tell ya, a 17+ pound carp will give you a heck of a battle on such gear.
