  1. I awoke this morning and as usual began to check the forum and began to read about the number of anglers who had been the victims of fraudulent card use. I quickly checked with my banks and discovered that three of my cards had also been hacked, totalling thousands of dollars for goods or services supplied or requested, fraudulently, within the last week. I reported this via the CAG forum and to say the least, I was pissed ! I stated that the common denominator,as far as I could see,was that the victims were all carp anglers. I later saw that one reply to my statement ,stated that the common denomitator was CAG. I have refuted this reply by stating that other anglers not members of CAG have also been hacked and not to imply otherwise. I would not point fingers at tackle dealers but stated that whoever was responsible was targetting the dealers who may be unaware that they had been compromised. I now read that the forum member who disagreed with my common denominator is now saying that he feels the hacker(s) are not within the carp world but is continuing to say the one thing in common is the site we frequent.

At no time did I imply that the hacker(s) were from within the carp world and I totally disagree that the cause is because we all frequent this CAG site. I have said before and I will say again that The common denominator is that we are all carp anglers who shop online for products.

  2. I stated that the carp anglers were the common denominator in this case. I do believe that there are carp anglers who have been hit even though they are not CAG members. What I am saying is that all the carp anglers do at some time make purchases from the limited carp tackle stores here in the USA and the answer to whoever is hacking, does so through one or more of these facilities. I do not believe that anyone at CAG is responsible and neither will I point fingers at any store in particular. I speak from experience in law enforcement in Great Britain, of twenty seven years. With foreign countries being able to hack into government offices in the USA, I can say that hackers will find a way to access the tackle stores here without the knowledge of the proprietors. This has nothing to do with the common denominator of CAG and certainly nothing to do with basket/weaving.

  3. I have had my PC checked again by US Tech Support (formerly Cyber Defender ) and there in nothing untoward that would have eminated from this end. It is just too coincidental for hackers to simply pick on unsuspecting targets, when as far as I can see the ,connection from reading all the reports, indicates carp anglers share the greater percentage of fraudulent hits. THIS IS THE COMMON DENOMINATOR. What other reason could be there be ? Perhaps they do not believe in catch and release?.

  4. Having read the numerous reports of fraudulent use of credit/debit cards, I immediately checked on the use of three cards that I have in the past used on items from BCT LLC.,Resistance Tackle,Wacker Baits, and Invicta Angling and lo and behold all three have been compromised by fraudulent use, with varying amounts amounting to thousands of dollars, within the last week. Fortunately all were Visa cards and they have a policy of refunding all fraudulent payments. The cards were the only on line transactions I have used at the stores for tackle, which leads to the conclusion that the hackers have somehow gained access to one or more of them.

  5. I like the format as shown in the photograph. Both Larry and I, watched you venturing away from peg 23 and we said at that time, how pegs could be included along the walkway adjacent to Police HQ. I also agree with Frank on limiting the entry to 18 anglers. The regulars will of course have to forget their 'Honey Holes' known at the J Town events if the numbering in the photographs is adopted as suggested.

  6. After the barge had churned up all the sediment ON BOTH SIDES of the river I did not have any more fish, but then, that's the way it goes. One can only surmise on what might have been. In any case, it was a most memorable and pleasant day, despite the freezing temperatures Thanks to Frank for changing the date. Today it's freezing rain coming down, when it melts I can get my Jeep washed.

  7. A couple of seasons back,I was fishing on the Rock River for carp, using an open ended feeder with groundbait and corn on a safety rig with a short braid hooklink with two grains of corn on a hair rig. I had already caught several carp, when whilst playing one,the line parted and I lost the fish. I re-tied and within minutes I hooked another and on landing it (18lbs) there in the upper corner of the mouth was my original braid with the hair rig and bait still intact, side by side with the re-tied braid and hair rig. I wish I had photographed this at the time, unfortunately I did not. If this carp had felt pain when I had first hooked it it was either so hungry that it didn't care or is there truth in this recent finding?

  8. I've been all over the weather maps for Joliet. The most recent states that Saturday will be sleet and freezing rain turning to snow after midnight with a 70 percent chance of precipitation. Sunday calls for a 20 percent chance of snow during the a.m. I am very reluctant to cancel but discretion is the better part of valour. Thanks for your input, I will miss you chaps.
