We are starting a new section in the Magazine where our CAG Members can ask questions. Based on the questions we get I will then put together a team of 'experts' to answer them.
Please use this thread to ASK your questions. Please keep them civil and to the point and if you see a question raised, do not answer it please! We will pick the most pertinent and interesting questions for each NACA Edition.
Thanks,
Dean

I am happy to report we are working behind the scenes to get the next issue of NACA ready to go. Over the next several months I will attempting to add a number of items to make sure NACA is at the forefront of American Carping.
If any members would like to contribute articles please PM me or email them directly to naca@carpanglersgroup.com
I cannot guarantee that the article will be published but I do appreciate everyone who contributes and I will let you know one way or the other so that you can use the articles elsewhere if we do not use them. The text is best sent as a 'Word' document and with pictures we use 'Dropbox', which is a free picture sharing website. Again, just use my email to send pictures.
To help give you an idea of what I am looking for in regards to the upcoming issue here are a few topic areas:
Fall Fishing Pictures - Scenery or catch pictures (does not have to be from this year)
Fall Fishing Tactics - Baiting methods, location and watercraft
Red Letter Days - Articles relating your best ever day of carping
I am also looking for reports and articles from specialist areas such as:
Paylake Fishing
Fly Fishing
Regional Reports (If anyone would like to be a regular regional coordinator please let me know) - An overview of what has been happening in your area
Any questions please feel free to PM me. I'm looking forward to helping NACA grow and reach a bigger target audience.
Thanks,
Dean

Please post your entries for July on this thread. Sorry I'm a little late, but work has been hectic....I haven't even got time to fish!!!
Lots of competitions popping up, but remember, we are the original and are completely free to enter. We do not promote any one sponsor and Dave (BC Tackle) kindly donates $100 of tackle every month as well as the yearly prize. CAG also throw in free membership for the monthly winners so all in all I think it's a great opportunity to share your catches and win some prizes.
Get posting for July

Hi Willem,
I'm unable to reply to Neil Stern's post on his stepping down in the Public announcement section nor can I access the CAG members only forums.
Any ideas?
thanks,
Iain

I've broken a lot of rods over the year and if I'm honest nearly ever occasion I was to blame. If the rods did not break when you were casting and playing fish my guess would be the tip was broken in some other way and you didn't notice. I did the same last year with a float rod, used it the previous session and then first cast the following session the tip broke. I didn't blame the rod as I had used it several times previously and most likely I knocked it when it was in the car.
I'm not pointing blame, just from experience if the rod was faulty it would have broken during the first initial use. The problem we have in the USA is that vendors are not local so you can't just pop into the shop to take it back. My own remedy for rod breakages is to get them repaired, easy enough if you take it to a rod builder and generally not pricey. I'd do a google search to see if there are any rod builders in your area.
I understand you are frustrated but rods are a dodgy area to prove you didn't do the damage. If it was luggage, reels, alarms etc it's much easier to get them replaced. Good luck, hope you get this resolved.

Most of my carp fishing revolves around short sessions. Once or twice a year I do get out for 2-3 day sessions but with work and family commitments I find short overnight sessions to my best option.Typically, I will arrive an hour or two before dark, sometimes even into dark and then fish until an hour or two after first light.
With a new job my fishing has taken a back seat as any time I do have off I like to spend with my family, but I have managed to sneak out for a few overnight sessions between work and have tempted a few nice fish.
The last 3 weeks have seen me fishing a grand total of 12 hours, so with no let up in my schedule on the horizon I really had to be creative to get a session in! Memorial weekend meant I had to go down to Cape Cod to coach a bunch of soccer teams at a Tournament and as I had no desire to sit in 4 hours of traffic I decided I would leave in the middle of the night. A water was picked where I could fish until 3-4am and then get in the car and beat the traffic.
Arriving after dark, means you have to know both the area you are fishing and have all of your tackle ready to go. This particular area has a sharp marginal shelf and baits are waded into position so the last thing you want to do is take a wrong step in the dark. All went according to plan and by 10pm I had two baits positioned and was very optimistic as I had spooked half a dozen fish in less than 2 feet of water when I was wading out.
Bait wise I mixed up hemp, cracked corn, tigers, sweetcorn, chopped boilies and some groundbait to ball out over the spots as well as using Nutrabaits Techni-spice and Blue Oyster spread around the swim. Hook-baits were a single boilie, topped with fake maize with a bag of pellets attached to the rig.
Sitting under the night stars listening to the odd fish crash really is my idea of paradise. Nothing beats being out amongst nature in dark, waiting for the alarm to sound, not knowing what is on the end of the line.
Midnight came and one of the rods sprung into life. Even though I have not fished the swim for 18 months, I remember the drill. Pick up the rod.......walk out the the marginal shelf while applying little pressure and then once clear of the rocky margins bend into the fish. After a spirited 10 minute fight I had my prize, a nice upper twenty mirror that I recognized as one I had caught 2 years ago at low twenties. I really love to see these healthy fish growing and a weight gain of over 6lb's is great to see.
After a quick picture, I repositioned the rod and baited the area again. After an hour I got a few line bites and 20 minutes later the procedure was repeated and a cracking mirror was in the net. Only a few ounces under 30lb's but I could never be disappointed with a cracking fish that fought every bit like a monster. Another quick snap and it was time to pack up and head for the Cape.
While not the biggest fish I have ever caught, this session really made me happy and reignited my love for this venue. Can't wait to get back.

Nothing over 50lb's but definitely over the current record. Even if they allow you to weigh the fish alive it still puts a big stress on the fish and the chances of it living are much decreased. Not all states have these rules, for instance Connecticut allows you to get your scales verified and then you just need a witness. Most people who fish seriously for carp have no desire to harm the fish and claiming a record is not high on their lists. Personally, a few pictures and a weight is more than enough for me.

Congrats on the fish, looked a very healthy specimen. For reference there have been several fish (that I am aware of) that have been caught over the current 47lb record, but as Massachusetts still requires fish to be taken to a weigh station the anglers preferred to put the fish back rather than risk it dying in transport. Best of luck with your fishing.

Solid pva bags with the rig and lead inside the bag. I personally would fish a drop off lead system in heavy weed as it makes playing and landing the fish much easier.

Post your submissions on this thread to be in with a chance to win the $100 gift voucher from BC Tackle.
Good luck to all those who enter.

Some stunning fish caught last month and once again proof that the biggest fish does not necessarily mean a win, we have Dave Pickering's stunning 20lb Fully Scaled Carp taking the prize this month.
Well done Dave.
May's competition is now online, so get posting to be in with a change to win $100 gift voucher from BC Tackle.

For those of you that like high quality bait I am please to announce BC Tackle now have a good range of Nutrabaits in stock. We have worked hard through the winter to supply new sources of bait for the US angler and Nutrabaits are one of the oldest and most successful European bait companies.
The ingredients are all high quality and although they are not the cheapest you pay for what you get. I personally will be using the Blue Oyster and Techni-spice baits as well as a bunch of their liquid additives and I can say without a doubt I have 100% confidence in them straight out of the bag.
