  1. Tribal, we are working on the paperwork for other bait companies but some of the popular brands you mentioned are just not interested until the US market gets larger as they are used to dealing in bulk quantities.

The other issue is shipping costs due to weight so the only effective way for US Importers to bring the bait in is in large quantities. It pays to speak to Dave directly if you are looking to order a decent amount or to one of the sponsored anglers (Craig for Dynamite and Brian for CC Moore).

  2. BC Tackle has a good supply from several different vendors and more to come in the new year.

If you want to order a decent amount you can always contact Dave as just because it's not in stock does not mean he cannot order it for you. As Dave said, it's not as easy as just calling the companies and ordering the bait, hence some companies are not interested in the investment. Personally, if you are looking for a decent UK bait then I would highly recommend CC Moore and Dynamite as I have used both over the last 2 years with great success.

  3. Good luck to everyone who fishes the ATC. I enjoyed the experience last year, even if the peg draw is a little hit and miss, but I would be happier to take my chances with the old draw than the new format.

I agree with Dave, if you are leading or in the top 4/5 on day one you are guaranteeing that you will most likely sit in a dead peg on day 2 :(

I personally like the current peg draw they do at the world championships: draw numbers/names for position in peg draw, at peg draw you draw the peg and decide whether you want to keep it or put it back and draw again. (Gives you 2 chances for a good draw)

I'd rather take my chances with the old format and although I understand why you want to change (to give the guys who blank on day 2 a chance) I'd rather take my luck each day than know I was going to be in a crappy peg on day 2 at the end of day 1. It may make the competition closer, but luck at the draw is always a big factor in fishing tournaments.

Again, good luck if you are fishing.

  4. Dave,

You can cast single hook-baits out with all manner of rigs and set-ups. The use of PVA is by far the most efficient way to eliminate tangles when fishing at range. Personally, when fishing over an area of bait that has been spombed/spodded I will use a solid PVA bag. You can fill it with pellets, boilie crumb, ground bait.....the world's your oyster.

PVA Solid bags are fairly cheap and BC Tackle do some budget ones I have been using all year which are perfect for ranges up to 60-70 yards. Anything further and I would be using the Fox Rapide bags or the Korda Solidz, all available from BC Tackle.

I've attached a couple of pictures, the first and second have a groundbait and particle mix and the third has a boilie crumb mix. The beauty with the solid bags are that you know 100% that your rig is sitting perfectly. You could also use PVA mesh to make a stick mix or similar.

  6. Have a look at BC Tackle. They have some excellent deals and sell most of the major bite alarms:

Personally, I can vouch for the Fox Micron Alarms and any of the Delkim models. I would pay a little more for a recognized brand as you really get what you pay for in regards to alarms. I have had some of the cheaper models and they just do not last and end up letting you down.

    Good luck with your search.

  7. Well, this month's competition was by far the most difficult to judge with several entries that were worthy of winning.

In the end the winner encapsulated what the competition is about. When I look at the entries I pick the fish that I would most like to catch myself which isn't always a question of size.

The winner this month was Rod Mills with this very unique looking fish. Well done Rod.

  8. Just started to use the TUF-LINE and first impressions are good. It casts very well, is a little more supple than PowerPro and feels less brutal when playing fish. Also significantly cheaper than PowerPro, so hopefully it'll stand up to the test of time.

  9. Sorry for the delay in posting last month's winner, but we were waiting for a few replies from a couple of the judges who were MIA!

Without further ado, this month's winner is Robert Duprey with a big mirror, for which he is well known.

He wins $100 voucher for CC Moore and a 1 year subscription to CAG.

    Well done Rob.

  10. September is now underway and with the fall weather arriving we hope to see some awesome entries over the next few months.

Prizes will be announced shortly, but feel free to start posting if you caught any fish over the holiday weekend.

  11. If your line snaps/breaks then it is either a bad batch of line or you are getting cut off. Mono is far, far more abrasive resistant than braid, which like Brian mentioned will cut almost instantly if it touches a rock or snag. In snaggy areas I use a leader (45lb leadcore) or you can use heavier mono, as long as the lead can pass over the knots or you use a lead clip.

Zebra muscles are another matter!! The only real effective method is to use a good 5-6ft of tubing which will stand up to the abuse. Check it after each fish and change it if you see any damage. Ken, I fished the Seneca at the weekend and the zebra muscles are attached to the weed which makes the fishing very difficult and my regular 45lb leader(s) got cut-off on one occasion and had to be replaced after a couple of fish as they were beat up. Only real solution was to use tubing which stood up to the zebra's very well.

  12. Last few days to submit entries for the August contest. Hope to see a few more posted after this weekend, remember we have a 3 day overlap so if you catch fish over the next few days as long as they are posted for September 3rd you will be included in the contest.

    Good luck.

  13. Fish at first light before it gets hot, the last couple of hours of light (dusk) or nights. I fish more nights in the summer and generally arrive a few hour before dark and fish through to 9am or so and then get out before the sun arrives!!

Bait wise, Brian has some good advice. Personally, I use more particles and add plenty of oils to the mix. I also use very visual baits. Zig rigs also work.

Good luck, it's my least favorite time of year to fish :(

  14. thanks dean. ive heard mixed thoughts about it and im not sure what net to get

Nik, depends what you are looking for. For $85 you won't go far wrong and I've purchased nets much, much dearer that have let me down. This can be in the spreader block design or the mesh size or any number of other reasons. So far the Fox warrior has had a couple of upper twenties and a thirty in it over the last month or so of use and it's been fine.

If you are looking for a net you can abuse then I'd probably look at something dearer. On the cheaper side I would recommend the NGT Nets (42 or 50"). You can get the net and a robust handle for around $50 and I have the 42" version that I attached to a smaller handle for stalking and tight swims and I've had numerous 30's and a few 40's in it. I would get the metal spreader block as the plastic version is not that strong.

Good luck with whatever you purchase.
