I hope the flooding from the South Branch of the Potomac doesn't mess things up for y'all. Flood came through and washed my table, chairs and other items down river.

Going from 8lb fish to a 19lber is a big jump and makes the fish seem even larger!
congrats on the fish and the nice trip.
I had caught one 21.7 pounds earlier in the week too.

Sunday morning I got a PM from possum telling me he may be in the area later in the day and did I want to meet up? I was already planning on going fishing at my swim around 11 am, so I was happy for the company if he indeed made it out this way. He sent me a PM later in the morning to say he was heading my way and should be here around 12pm. I got to my swim, got things organized and baited up a bit. My Mom went to meet up with possum and his GF at the local Sheetz and lead them to my gated campground riverlot.
Long story short we chatted and fished for about 5 hours. I caught 2 commons, 1 was 8.3 lbs and the other was about 6 (didn't weigh it but we both guessed around 6 LOL). I also lost one that was around 12lbs. O'l possum beat himself up quite a bit about it because the fish crossed his line and got tangled and I guess the lines rubbing together caused my line to break. In his defense he had his baitrunner on, but he was snagged, so there was no getting the line out of the way. I caught both of the fish and the 1 I lost on pack (R&W Butternut and Vanilla Cake flavored) & puff (Hot Sauce or Cinnamon Oil). We had a great time. We didn't think to take any pictures, we were to busy having fun. He says he will be back in the near future and I look forward to it. Have to throw some meat on the grill and take some pictures next time. The next day I caught a 19.25 pounder! I wish he coulda been there for that one. LOL I hope you enjoyed the story and if you're ever in the oldest town in the oldest county in WV stop by and get a fish on with ol' Dunkel!

I just got back from fishing today. I fished for 8 hours and caught 2 commons. 1 was 4.5 lbs and the big girl was 21.70 lbs. I caught both of them on pack & puff. Ultimate Butternut (my mix) flavored pack and hot sauce flavored puffs.

Well I fished for 8 solid hours and I caught 1 common that was 15.5 pounds. Photobucket won't let me upload pics for some reason, so I cannot show a picture of her. She gave a great fight and I caught her on a cinnamon puff. It was the only good bite of the day. Not much surface activity yet either. Guess the water still cool as night time temps are still in the 40's. I'm going again tomorrow morning. Hopefully I catch a few more than today. Still had fun though.

Tomorrow will be my first trip for carp this year. Today I went to my swim to prepare it for the year. Set up my chair (homemade outdoor chair) , set up the table, evened out some ground and dropped off a few items that stay there all season. The river looks good, a little high but not much current and not at all muddy. Before I left I threw in a little over a 1 pound chunk of OrangeNilla flavored method mix. Tomorrow I'll go for an 8 hour session. I'm loaded for bear, homemade Orange Cream dough balls, pack and puff (3 different puffs plain, hot and cinnamon), and Wacker Sweet Corn flavored Monster Maize. I cannot wait. I'll update this post tomorrow evening after the trip.

Way to go! A new PB is always exciting.

Nice looking fish. Well done! If you're late I must be the turtle. LOL I won't be able to get to my swim til 5/1. I will give it hell when I do!

Another great story and beautiful pictures. Nice little picnic/camping/fishing spot there amongst the trees.
-
Awesome fish! Nice dark color too. Well done.

Good eye Rebel! Actually that's flavored with Superior OrangeNilla. It was later mixed with some other stuff to make chum chunks. It could be used for method, but I just chuck it in.

I use spring water not city water to soak and boil my cracked corn and other baits. It probably wouldn't matter if you used tap water as I'd guess the chlorine would boil out of it anyway.
-
Daniel covered the bases, but I only flavor about 15 minutes after the boil. Most flavorings will boil away, so I've heard it's better to wait until the boil is done and cooled off for 15 minutes before adding it.
Salt is also a flavor enhancer, so it would help amp up the flavor. Some folks over the pond use MSG as well.
-
It depends on how coarse a grind it is. The standard cracked corn I get here has alot of whole kernels in it. I soak it for 24 hours and boil it for 30 minutes. Better safe than sorry I figure.

Well done. I catch Golden Redhorse Suckers on accident while fishing for carp. They get big, I've caught several close to 7 pounds.

Wicked!

I doubt it would be spawning behavior this early. Unless the body of water you're on is very shallow and warms quickly or there's a hot water disharge from a nearby power plant.

Very nice short story. Time spent with Grandpa is a treasured memory for me. I'm sure Jake enjoys spending time with Ol' Captain!

Pretty cool. That pond looks pretty scummy (for lack of a better term) for so early in the year. Good job on getting on in the net.

A touching tribute. I didn't know him but I can tell he liked great beer, and caught some big ol' carp. May flights of angels sing him to his rest.

That is a pretty great outcome to an unfortunate situation. Glad to hear things will be mostly back to normal now.
