  1. have located some nice small carp and decided to start a small tank.

any one that knows there stuff willing to give me any pointers.

hears is the setup so far. It is currently running its cycle. from what i have read on this i am to let the tank cycle for up to 6 weeks but 2 to 3 weeks is good to introduce small numbers of fish like 2 or 3 at a time. im not looking to to make any thing fancy but just want to have a few small carp.

i have treated water and added a few water supplements to help with the nitrogen cycle.

again any help with this is very grateful.

    cheers.

You can add liquid bacteria before you add any fish, it isn't a bad idea to start feeding some food even though there are no fish in there as well this kick starts the bacteria cycle. I also think it helps to add some fresh water aquariam salt it helps with added minerals

I try and keep as many different kinds of filter media as possible, carbon keeps the water clear, bacterial balls are also good if you have an external cannister definitley get a couple of power heads for the corners shooting diagnally across the tank this helps with circulation no end. I also have a UV sterilizer which helps as well. Clean the mechanical filter as much as possible.

Bottom line is ensure you change the water at least 25% at least every 2-3 weeks, and try and keep the water in as good a shape as possible with PH and amonia/nitrates etc.

I have had good luck with koi ponds in the past but currently have a beatiful 100 gallon Malawi African cichlid tank, almost impossible to kill if you have crushed coral substrate (keeps the ph high) and good circulation.

I do feel like rearing some carp fry from a good lineage strain and seeing if I can nurture them to a good size. I have raised 8 inch imported Japanese koi to over 15lbs on a hearty diet of skinned chick peas and shrimp in a pond before.

  2. I think this thread should end here, think what you think, the fish WAS 28lbs 2oz.

    No worries Justin.

Pick your friends carefully, some are going to mislead you.

If you need two carp rods let me know, I won't hold it against you either B) Justins dad is a fantastic bloke and does a great job without any other mentoring needed.

  3. BTW, I am an honest person and do NOT lie about fish weights. There are some people on here who DO lie about the weights of their fish and I can even prove it. I am not going to because I do not want t put anyone down.

Way to go Minnow Magnet, Please ignore the nonsense....sometimes I can't believe the audacity of people. Obviously Brid has more time then I thought to even start a stupid thread like this.....amazing.

He is demonstrating discusting behaviour for someone that has only been on the circuit five minutes, it is these kind of antics that made me quit going to the nor cal carp club forum.

Keep up the hauling and ignore the haters..

Are you still using your cool little set-up.

  4. I met Micko down the local pond at about 6-00, I had a hellish day losing two fish and then ending up in Emergency by 9-00 :D

I fell down a slope and ruptured a ligament in my knee and a hair-line fracture in my ankle.......... Whilst baiting the far bank....... :D:D

I put out the SOS signal "Pimp Down, Pimp Down" but to no aveil...... :D

Sir Spoonalot kindly helped me with his questionable medical skills, pulling out his Fox International medical supplie bag, and the next 4.5 hours I was stuck at kaiser...... :D:D

I believe Mick went on to bag up. Mick also caught his target fish "Nemo" The Elusive Common......a great achievement... :D
