  1. I personally have never noticed a connection one way or another. Although, I have not done a ton of research either.... Just mild observation.

    So............... I don't know.

Let me know if I can help you with anything else. lol sorry

  2. You are a young man.... Be smart and start a fishing log/journal now. You will be very happy you did in 10-15 years from now.

If nothing else, it helps you organize all your successes and failures over the years. This alone will make you a better angler. Eliminating bad places, conditions and times at certain times of the year and highlighting successful outings will allow you to develop a high percentage " milk run" of fishing opportunities. It removes the guesswork out of trying to remember when it was you did well the previous year. and the year before that.

You can make it as simple as where? when? Time? Weather? Bait? Or you can get complex and include water temp, previous day weather. barometric pressure reading etc. You will not be sorry. Keep a journal. I have been maintaining a log/journal since 1994 when I started bass fishing. I now have 3 completed log books and working on #4. I refer to them often.

    Good Luck

  3. This morning I encountered at least a dozen fish at my favorite pond actively involved in " The Spawn". They were all very close to the bank and they rolled and splashed for over an hour. At one point I counted 8 pairs of fish in one 10 ft area rolling and flopping all over each other. Their big tails were coming straight out of the water. A really wild scene. I have witnessed this before but never with this many fish involved. At first I was hesitant to fish. I really doubted that these fish would be interested in feeding at this point. I ignored the frenzy and casted out 30 ft beyond the party. To my surprise, I got 4 runs in a little less than two hours. Caught 3 missed one. Biggest fish 17.5 lbs. While I was attempting to net the big fish, I noticed another fish that was swimming right along side of the one I had hooked. It was in Spawn Mode. This is the second time I have witnessed this behavior. really cool.

Lesson Learned: Not all carp spawn at the same time. And some do feed during the Spawn.

  4. From what I have heard.... Many big fish are re-caught multiple times from generally the same area. Obviously, there are exceptions to every rule but I believe a lot of carp are " home bodies".

P.S. I have caught carp on many different hook baits over the last 3 years but my biggest fish ( Canadian Common 29.00lbs and an American Mirror 30.01 lbs) were both caught with a maize/chick pea and a maize/sweetcorn combo. For what its worth.......

    Good Luck

  5. A lot of time on the bank and a little bit of luck. That was my plan. I would have liked to catch many more big fish but, truth be told, I am very pleased with my RI 30lber. Congrats to all of the fishermen and Thank You also. I had a great time.

  6. Lefty, I noticed the exact same thing! The Mass section was really one of the most active spots on the whole forum, with people posting every day... and like you said, Scott was a big part why. There were like a dozen threads started a week, often more, detailing reports, hot baits, where to be, etc. I definitely learned a lot about local venues and carping in general from going through Scott's old posts. In the meantime, we need to get the Mass CAG back to what it once was!

Change starts from within..... CAG should not go "back" but move forward.
