  1. Wow guys these are some real beasts - unfortunately my biggest Buffalos to date have been all foul hooked - I have had some under 10 lbs legally smacking flies, cranks and twisters, but since the areas I Carp fish are not popular Buffalo areas I have not managed yet my hopes lie in Lake Wisconsin Next!

    Catch and release!

P.S. Sorry for the Gill hold. It was almost a life/death type of situation - I am most certain the Behemoth lived on! After all I am no bow fisherman or a "self alleged conservationist" who eradicates all Carp on sight as I see common practice in Wisconsin. For some it is a livelihood so I understand them:

  2. This one came on an Orange Popper...

  3. Wow, congrats man! I wish for one of these on the fly rod! Then I would give up salmon fishing for good! There was one small pond near Reedsburg, WI that had a few 4-5 footers in it but DNR "poisoned the well"... If you want to beat the Common Record and have a chance come visit Lake Wisconsin (may get your PB Buffalo as well!).

  4. Catch and release only my friend :(

Thank you for the comment, Pawel, I do practice catch and release for Carp and the majority of other fish, but there is a reason Crappies are in the "Panfish" category.

I do encourage my kids to release fish also especially having in mind that the traditional attitude around here is to toss Carp, Suckers and Sheepshead on shore with their bellies slit, now that is something I also do not put up with...

Crappy populations can with withstand "keep and cook." They can number in the millions in large lakes. I had some baked in coals during a January college field trip. Water temp was about 40 deg. F and the meat was sweet and firm. We didn't have any slaw or hushpuppies. :(

I like to invite friends over when I prep fishfries and one great way to serve has always been on toast with mayo and pickle slices.

That's some fine eatin there! Nice catches! :)

Thank you, Sir! I only kept eight fish. The White Crappie stringer is shared by a Friend in TX.

    Second to Walleye meal!

I prefer keeping the Crappies & Perch and letting the Walleyes go as I feel there is more wasted percentage. Not sure why many refer to the Crappie fillets as "mushy" though

  5. Welcome to the Forum!

If you are coming up to Wisconsin Dells area make sure to let me know - plenty of great fishing up here. I usually drive down by you for Trout and Salmon.

  6. Congrats on your first fly carp of the season. I have to also ask about the koi?

I did once whip out my fly rod at The Polynesian Cultural Center and tied in with a 20+lb koi brute but that was immediately frowned upon by the staff... ;-)

You'd think with all the Tilapia and Koi in there no one would care but .... guess not
