  1. Just a quick clarification question, is this years event just for Friday 27th and Saturday 28th February 2015 ?
Didn't it used to be a Fri evening, Sat/Sun event ? with the corn boil being the Fri night ?
Or was this meant to be posted as 27th, 28th Feb , and 1st Mar ?
Sorry to ask but as I am hoping to come down for this one, from Colorado with my Team CarpQuest. It's very important I have the dates right, for my partner and I to plan accordingly to see if we can make this fun event !
    Kind Regards,
    John

I have the same questions. We need to clarify this before we book the wrong hotel dates LOL

  2. Chod rig and pva bag/mesh, pop ups or floating corn, do not use sinking hard baits. Nothing else. Also, I highly recommend you watch videos on Korda's website, the clips when they fish in weedy lakes. There are special reeling techniques in weedy lakes. the only think that I don't agree with them is fishing with extra slack lines

  3. Welcome to the club. Looks like you started the right way, dedicating a lot of your time to research. Keep up the good work! Your area is filled with a lot of good carp anglers, so you have plenty of opportunities to meet, learn and socialize. k1 Baits sells the best bait in the country, located in Chicago and Wacker Baits for your tackle needs, also very close to you. Don't forget, Chicago river has plenty of places that don't freeze during the winter, where you can still fish. See you on the bank sometimes, and, of course, tight lines !

  4. So lakes started to freeze, much sooner than we hoped/expected. This winter is going to be brutal. I am looking for a place to fish that doesn't freeze during the winter or at least most of the winter. I never fished Detroit river, I know that freezes too sometimes, so maybe some of you who know the river well can share . Also another possible spot will be places with warm water close to power plants, dams, or places where city water goes into the lake/river. Obviously beers on me, unless you are under 21, then cofee is on me LOL. Thanks, guys

  5. Carp fishing in the US is in its infancy. They have been looked upon as h a horrible species that needs to be taken out of the water and killed. That's the attitude of the general populace. Most of them gave been taught for generations that they serve no purpose and are not a sport fish. That's why there is poor fish care when compared to European standards. I myself have been letting people know about nets and mats since the early 90's and it's a long slow process. The exposure level is not high enough for a normal person to know how we "proper" carp anglers handle them. It starts with education and that's our responsibility to help them learn. I didn't want to imply you were being mean or condescending, just that Americans as a whole don't understand it on the level we do.

    Well said, Sir.

  6. Thank you. While I have all the euro gear I don't understand the "proper kit" that people think they have to have. That's one thing that I believe could turn someone off because they will think if they don't have alarms, pods. Long rods, etc... then they can't catch carp. I always stress to new comers to get a safe net and something for a mat or find some soft grass just for safe handling. :)

I never said get a 600$ reel and a 600$ rod. I'm only talking about nets. And I wasn't trying to be mean or condescending on anybody, it's just that I see every day on the bank here in the US carp anglers that have all the proper gear except the right net. Most of them don't even have an unhooking net (they start at 9$ at BCT). And by the right net I don't mean you have to spend 300$ and import it from the UK just because it says "carp net" and it's trendy, as long as it doesn't hurt the carp, it's ok. People seem to have a really hard time understanding that everything about carp is different than pike, salmon or bass. Like it shows in the picture I posted earlier, it is so easy to damage a carp, it's scary
