  1. Hi soCal I've tried the owner mosquito hooks kind of. To be honest I went to tie up some leaders and while pulling my knotless knot tight one of the hooks bent out alittle. After I saw that before use I never even tried them, to each their own, I personally can't use them after seeing that. Maybe a faulty hook, maybe my fault? Who knows but I don't want to risk a fish of a lifetime. Lol

  2. image.thumb.jpg.98bf83f2730ef8e578cd9563Would anyone happen to know if the size 1 (pictured) scorpion tackle paylake special (venom series) hook is larger or smaller than the 1/0 in the same style? The website doesn't say and I can't get anyone to email me back. I sent a email regarding the size of the hooks two weeks ago and haven't heard a thing. Thanks

  3. Hi Lara,

I've heard great things about fishing in Ontario. The fishing up there seems great. Thanks for joining the forum and asking questions. There's quite a few American carp tackle suppliers. Big carp tackle (BCT) being one of the biggest, Wacker bait and tackle, K-1 baits, and world classic baits (WCB) All of these companies have websites in which you can buy baits, hooks, and other sorts of tackle. There's also a smaller carp tackle company in TX called american carp gear   (They have a website too). Texas is a rather large state so it's most likely that the actual dealer isn't close enough for you to drive to, however it wouldn't hurt to look up their location and see how far it is from you. In the case your not into ordering things you should be able to find everything you need at a k-mart or walmart regarding tackle and bait. To my knowledge we don't have any other tackle shops in the US that sell stuff for carp specifically. Hope that, that kind of helps!

  4. A friend and I headed down to a SC lake over the New Years and had a great time and both caught new PB's. The trip was a last minute decision as we both have to work often and don't know what our schedules will be like. Throughout the trip we endured some crazy weather that the lake has to offer throughout the year. We met new friends, ate very well and watched fireworks as we set by watching our rods. What a great way to start the new year! Who would have ever thought the fish would bite so well in the cold winter weather. Here's a few photos for yall. And yes the PB (BOTTOM PHOTO) of 32.3 was caught on a puff?

  5. Now in NC.

Franklin coming by in a couple of weeks.

Buckhorn reservoir looks promising. Decent bank access. Clean area. Stocked with grass carp in 2008. Reservoir is 40+ years old and only 10 miles away. 15' deep 50 yards out.

One suggestion to attract a grass ie or two?

where is this buckhorn reservoir? Sounds interesting. I'm in western NC. If the lake is well stocked with grassie you should have no problem getting into them. Fish just as if you were fishing specifically for common carp. The grassies love corn, be ready, if you get into a shoal of grassie they will devour everything in your swim, have ATLEAST two buckets of cracked corn/ maize ready to spomb/Spod once you get them in your baited area it's only like donkey kong!
  6. Would also like to add that lightly flavored baits catch my bigger fish this time of year so faint the coloring can't be seen and the smell is faint, I'll leave out a ball of packbait 2 and a half to 3 hours, there's times when leaving the bait lay is very productive regarding big fish. Grits are your friend. If you don't throw grits often, get in.
