Puffs will stay on the hook for hours, even when fished plain out of the bag, I've gone as far as letting them sit 12-14hrs and them catch a fish. Confidence is key when it comes to fishing with puffs, once a puff has sit in the water long enough it will get really soft, so soft that you may think a carp would rip it off just by touching it, however I've seen puffs take hours of sucks and blows before a run, that was in wildwater of course, in paylakes if your getting bumps and blows you have the wrong pickup, no question about it. However if you simply can't bring yourself to fish with a plain puff I'd suggest either coating your puffs with Karo, or fishing a bead or a peice of enterprise pop up corn alongside your puff. In my personal opinion you catch most of your fish rather quickly by throwing out simply because that's what a pack and puff combo is designed for, it's not meant to provide the fish a HNV belly full, it catches, puts them on the bank and that's that. Goodluck, have confidence!

I've noticed 7-8 degrees water temp diffrences same depth within a few hundred yards of each spot.Oh, and yes, I think it is primarily an oxygenation problem. Totally agreed with Jacob, some well oxygenated spots could be the way to go.

As far as the turtles are concerned I tend to use plastics, that helps to a extent.

Don't give up, as mentioned summer can be a hard time of year for most, in my personal experience I tend to catch a lot of my bigger fish in summer, but that's due to the fact that I get to fish a lot more. At any rate I tend to find the majority of my fish in the summer stock piled around points or dropoffs, 17-25ft however I do have a few spots that produce good fish, one paticular spot is in the back of a small lake 25-30 acres, it has a river feeding into the small lake, at the mouth of the river there is a large mud flat, the carp go up on the mud flat to feed at night. The river provides oxygen in the water making it a perfect spot for the carp, fresh water and natural food flowing in from the river into the lake makes it prime in the heat of the summer. In summer I fish nights and nights strictly, I'll set up a few hours before dark and fish until the next morning when the sun gets warm. If you haven't caught anything in that time span you most likely won't. Goodluck feel free to PM if you have any questions.

Perhaps one should study on a paylake rig, either a hair rig or a paylake rig, only rig needed to catch our wild carp here in the states.

sweetner would be a good idea IMO. Most flavorings do have a bitter taste to them.Quick question: Would any of you recommend adding a sweetener (sweet 34) to the R&W when using it for particles. I ask this because I decided to taste (a drop half the size of my fingernail) one of the flavors and I noticed that while it did have the flavor it smelt of, it also had a slight bitterness. Do you think the Carp would be deterred by this? They certainly don't refuse it in oats but that also has cream corn in it, acting as a mild sweetener...

not so sure about the boilies. However it can be used it particles, after boiling your particles add in R&W while the particle cools down so the flavor absorbs into the bait instead of boiling out.Can R&W be used to flavor boilies and/or particles. As you can see in the attached image I have alot of ideas!

Rice in wildwater sucks IMO grits can't be beat.

depending on what type of rig you fish with this isn't such a big deal, I fish paylake rig and I simply fish with a larger diamater 20lb test so that it fits tightly into the eyes of the hook. The only issue I have with the Gamakatsu hooks is the eye on every hook I bought online isn't fully closed. I ordered 10 packs so have 100 hooks that require attention from some needle nosed pliers. Not the biggest problem in the world but disappointing nonetheless.

Honestly the confidence you have in the rig plays a big factor in your effectiveness. I would never think of using a circle hook but that's just me, I have no confidence in them while fishing for carp, the major set back for me is the fact that a circle hook effects the ability to fish paylake baits and pickups as easily as I can with a standard "J" style hook. I however can't begin to guess if it would work as well on large carp because I firmly believe that they feed and mouth baits differently. Different strokes for different folks, if it works, KEEP DOING IT.

I don't want 100yds, why nearly empty my spool to catch a fish? I can catch them 20-30 yards in from of me, less reeling and a heck of a lot easier to keep your bait on. This isn't Europe.

Go with scorpion tackle venom series hooks, bend one of them and I'll kiss your foot. Lol

not to ruffle your feathers but you CANNOT cast a baitcaster on a 7ft lightening rod 75 plus yards, i fish paylake style and paylake style only, in no way shape or form is it even possible, unless your seriously overloading the rod, a 7ft rod is either a medium heavy or a medium, neither of which have enough backbone to cast a large lead 2 plus ounces. If it's a Abu Garcia reel it's more than capable of the 75 plus yards you speak of but on a 7ft berkley lightening rod I'll guarantee you it's not going 75 yards, let alone more. You must be casting wrong. I had the same set up and can easily cast more then 50yds with 2oz lead and pack.
i can cast a 7ft lightning pole with a baitcaster 75yds+ maybe practice makes perfect. If not try heavier lead.

Some of my best fishing has been on a full moon in Novemeber on the night of a first frost, not sure if it was the full moon, the first frost, or a combination of both of neither but I've heard of others having luck on a full moon and I've heard other say they think they didn't catch because of it? Who knows honestly. If they are biting they are biting.

Not reading the other replays I may or may not say what they said but in my opinion this is not a bad thing. As a paylake style fisherman we tend to bait our wildwater spots with lots and lots of cracked corn and boiled maize, I'm talking anywhere from 50-300lbs and that's all done a couple/few days before fishing and it still proves to be successful, I don't however flavor my prebait. I boil it or soak it in hot water and that's about all. If you fish with a flavored packbait or a flavored peice of maize it will stand out above the prebait. In my honest opinion nothing like a good spread of bait will get the carp feeding. One competition starts (assuming it's a large head of carp) they will fight it out until they empty your hole, then you must also take into account turtles, catfish, panfish and any other species that may eat your prebait. Make your prebait good, your packbait better, and your pickup best. Goodluck.

72oz of rice is enough for 2 days on a paylake for me?

7ft 6in heavy action telescopic rods, I prefer the bass pro graphite series for $39.99 as I've never had a problem with them and when fishing with 4 rods at most times anything more exspensive is just a luxury I don't possess. Anyhow bionics and extremes are a smoother more Cadillac feel kind of rod. GoodluckThanks for the information that I have received so far. I'm hoping Mr Big will reply once again on the length and power on the Bionics or the Extremes. Tight lines to all-------Richie B

I fish with a size 1 scorpion tackle paylake special.

I'm kind of confused when it comes to the term "hook pull" describe a hook pull? I fish both paylake and wildwater, in all of my years of fishing wildwater i have yet to lose a wild fish due to a "hook pull" if my idea of a hook pull is everyone else's. I've brought in every carp I've ever hooked in wildwater unless it managed to find a hang and I had to break off. In paylakes I've lost hundreds of fish, mostly due in part to bad mouths on the fish from being caught very often, or the like. Carps mouths also soften up in warm water therefore making it easier for them to pull the hook. I've never noticed this in wildwater though.

hello Fisherwood, hate that I missed your reply as well. Apologizes. The salt is the preserver of course insuring it doesn't spoil. As for the powdered sugar, it gives it the texture and also helps as a binding agent I would imagine. I don't exactly know the why's and how's of all of the baits I make, I just know what works and what doesn't.Hi Jacob
I did mine similarly, but not the same. only 2 tbsp salt, no sugar....
I'll have to try it your way next time!
Thanks!

Hello zach, hate that I didn't see your reply, I didn't follow the thread and missed it, I use instant white rice, never noticed a diffrence in walmart brand and "minute rice" brand, hope this helps.Which type of rice do you use for your Jacob?

Sorry I missed your last question in your paragraph. When I fish wildwater I tend to only rebait every couple of hours, BIG fish. Take patience. Remember, we are In their environment, a well placed bait and pickup may need to sit awhile before the large carp moves in to investigate, grits, oats, or any other packbait for that matter is a foreign substance in their world, chunking bombs every 20mins would scare me to death if I were a carp.
