i have seen alot of koi with no barbels
a crucian carp and common carp would be interesting.
i have never seen one.there IS a good number of crucian
carps in a small river dam thats made a good sized lake by me believe it or not.i'll try and catch one for a pic,for
you non-believers
tell me this.i know that carp and goldfish have crossed
bred in wild and by man.however i want to know if in the
wild its just by chance and location.heres why i ask.
carp on the spawning run move so fast and hard that
there is no way a goldfish could possibly keep up.duning
the whole run while the female is being drove by the males
shes spewing eggs everywhere.well perhaps a few gold
fish(which do spawn in a gentle way compared to carp)
happen to be spawning in the same areas as the carp and
the goldfish milt happen to reach a few ''lost''carp eggs.
and BOOOM! you have a hybrid.this has to be the only
way i could see the too spawning with out human intervention.what do you think?its just a theory
-
yes, would like to know whats up with the rods
as well
-
i have been to a few places that feed carp like this.
places in CA,myrtle beach, florida,KY,AL.PA several places
here in OH.but i have NEVER,NEVER seen it as bad
as it is at Pymatunning Res on the OH/PA border.
its crazy!i guess things are really bad in out there
in Lake Mead as well.

looks like a bighead, however the head dose not look
that big(wide)as a big head.so iam going with grasser.
this is probably more likely as its out of most peoples
range to accually hook a big head (in the mouth)i assume
this is how this fish was caught.
-
been catching guapotes Hondu.ever catch any
''guapote blancos'' down there.or the natives call it
laguneros...its a big cichild.we call it wolf cichlid or
by its scientific name N.dovii in aquarium trade.

boys,boys,boys..we have our own town lake(s)
-
nice looking fish,man.

thanks keith!

keith,
do you use those knots with a mono shockleader
when fishing with rods that have a 12mm tip.
the 30lb mono makes a good sized knot, bigger
than any knot tired with a braid SL to a mono main line
no matter how the knot is tied.any fear of the
larger knot from the mono shockleader busting the tip
guide when only 12mm?

Mike,
i definally know what you mean about the drop backs that
grass carp can give.i had one once send the indicator falling strait down, with the entire line going limp.i picked up the rod and the fish, once i finally got the line tight to it.
was about 50 yds down the bank to the left of me.
the fish was no more than 2ft from the bank.they are definally quick!as i had been a good 80yds out.
there happens to be a lake near me where the commons
do the same thing.they come strait in on you.half the time you cant tell if you have a bull head or a 20lber
untill you see it!

i have never had a common jump clear out of the water.
but have had them hit the surface with serious force
right after picking up the bait.
i have had grass carp jump a good 3 ft out of the water
on several occasions during the fight.and one had to of
jumped 5 ft out of the water right after taking the bait.
he leaped out and did this crazy flip, and busted the line
all why the rod was still on the pod.i still cant figure out
how it broke the line as this was one of the only times i was accually useing the baitrunner perhaps it was snagged on the bottom or something.

i live about 3/4 of a mile from a canal that has carp of
all sizes, and a large lake which the canal flows into, its about 1 1/2 from my current local, was under a mile when i was growing up.i dont fish at either one anymore.TOO
much darma involed with fishing these places.
so i stick to fishing a large chain of lakes that start about
2 miles to the south of me.far away from the BS!

some of these deformed goldfish breeding projects
that come out of these asian labs scary
other hybrid/color dyed fish comming out of these asian
labs extremly scary
-
a fowl hooked carp from any water fights the hardest.
but in my experience the mid teen fish from moving water
fight pretty good.also ones from clear water lakes also
scrap good.
-
thats probably why it was show on a show titled ''worlds dirtiest jobs''
although i would take noodling over the other jobs they profiled,
like cleaning and getting in grease traps and septic tanks
-
yeah man,i acually thought of you when i was watching that.
they had these fish hanging from ropes, the whole thing was sick.
the guy with the tattoo was a big dude, man, shortish and had to be
350lbs and definally a redneck by all means he said ''if i
ever loose an arm, hope its not this one.''was a pretty cool tattoo
though.
-
hey, speaking of noodling.did you guys catch that show on the discovery channel about a week ago,its called worlds dirtest jobs
or something.anyway they had these southern guys noodling for flats and of course they had about 5 that they killed and ate.they showed the whole cleaning prosses.i was sick, all the flats were in the teens.
BTW, Karp, one of the guys had a big flathead tattoo on his arm,
thats the only one i have seen besides yours.
-
i won't take a picture of a fish less than 20lb anymore
unless its a special occasion or it happens to
be a larger mirror like 18-19lb or some thing.i won't
take pictures of grass carp unless its about the same,
over 20lb.

for those that are intrerested...which is probably nobody the golden tench is gaining some popularity in this country as an ornamental pond fish.the ones i have seen
have been a bit pricey, probably because not that common over here yet,but i hear the pond experts sometimes recommend them over koi for modest sized ponds because they don't get as large as koi, yeah they can reach 20lbs though.there is some of the wild colored tench as well sometimes imported too,(much cheaper than the golds).so if anybody is looking to do a little
stocking opp.give a yell to the garden centers
-
keith,
have you went and caught any tench from this lake you
know of?
didn't Globetrotter state that he had caught or seen really
big tench up in washington or someplace up there?
-
i remeber the links that newt posted way back.after that i tried to do some serious research on them because there was a river right close to me that was suppose to be an
''original stocking water''for tench, way back when.
i never found any hard evidence on them still being there,
and asked the DOW DNR if they had a clue, they did not.
so i just figure any that were here in any number are
completly gone.maybe a few still swimming in lake eire.
which is where this river drains.it would be extremly hard
to locate any tench in any number in this country.
-
centerpin, kind of like fly reel ,no? never handled one
before.
-
i'll be putting in an order before the end of the week
i can't wait to read this book.
-
BTW-none of you guys stayed to fish at night?i would be
curious to see how the action is there at night.
