anybody remeber their first mirror?i sure do
-
i was about 11 years ago,i was about 8 was fishing
at this pond with big grass carp,i did not catch one but seen 2 caught(one was killed, though )they were so FREAKING huge out of the water i thought.i had always seen big carp in lakes, and fed the beasts at amusment parks.but never really seen a fish that big out of water.
one thing that sticks to my mind and will always remeber
about those grassers that day were the scales on the fish.
i was like hyptnotized by them.
a few weeks later i was fishing this really dirty/muddy
and we were catching a load of catfish, all 1-2lbers.
then i had a massive hit that i remeber was not like the
catfish, and this fish was pretty hard to bring in
on such a small pole.it turned out to be a small common
(i did know the difference even back then)but i remember
i was happy and,yes i admit i wanted to keep it to
show my mom ,thank god the grand dad declined
and had to say the whole trash fish bit,but this is a good thing now that i think about it.
a few years later, when the carp skills got better,i captured
several of the large grassers from that pond that
really got me interested in carpfishing.

kyle,i don't think you want to go to south africa
-
i have only caught a few buffs and they sure don't seem to be aggessive takers.the ones i caught were just under
10lbs but they must of played with the bait for 10min
before they hooked up,unless there was a bullhead playing for 10mins and then the buff came along
-
i swear i hate you guys with rivers near by
-
scott,
you being a big cat man,you should check into some of those SA red-tail/tiger shovelnose hybrids, its CRAZY!
-
i accually built a 1000g pond in my mom's basement.
i don't have a liner for it yet though.but the frame is
all made up.i wanted to keep large warm water cats and
other stuff, but heating it is a bit of a problem, very expensive for a proper sized heater and electric to run it.
not to mention the dehumidifiers i would need,or the house will rott from all the condensation.
$200 for a red tail that size to day is a bit steep.5years
ago it would have been outragous.the prices on most of the big cats from SA are going up because of the popularity thats grown over the last few years.
a Wels in this country is extremly rare, even for zoos/public
aquariums.if you ever did find one you could expect a
un fathomable price and probably would need some kind
of licenses to keep it.and don't for get about space!
man you would need something like at least 10'000g to keep an adult comfortable, food would also cost an arm
and a leg.but i you get in a jam you could always toss
in the neighbor's dog
-
i first flathead i ever caught i put in a tank.he was only about 12-13in or so,i though him in a 125g.they are interesting fish, they seem much different that alot of
the larger SA or Asian species.you would not believe what
flatheads go for in Asia for aquarium specimens
-
yes, deffinally want some for a tank set up,but need them semi small so i can grow them out and get a feel for
their tempermant.they are pretty cool fish and i'll bet
there ain't too many being kept in aquariums
-
i want to get about 10 of them about 1-2in long.
-
anybody know if its possible to catch smaller ones in castnets?
-
welcome to the forum, visited Stutgart twice, nice town.
-
don't really know too much about catching drum.
don't really have a close water too catch them, well
except for L.Eire.but i would think just about anything
live they would have a go at.always here how their caught
on lures.i would try shiners,night crawlers,ect.perhaps
on floats,free lined,or jigged.
-
i check people out for awhile before i offer any knowagle
or advice, beacuse it ussually backfires on you.you go
telling all these things you have learned to a person you have never met or known shortly can be a problem.
they may strat useing your advice and knowagle to start
catching big fish or any carp to slaughter or eat.only
offer your advice to serious anglers that will ahve rspect for the fish and carpfishing.

i have ordered from paul p on numerous occasions.
i order more stuff from the UK because bigger selection
not because of problems with WB.i had to use his
customer service once and he WAS very cool about everything.i had ordered 2 rods and one happened to be
the wrong rod and much more expensive than the rod i had ordered.called and he offered to let me keep the
more expensive rod and no charge me.i declined because
i wanted a matching set.so he sent a replace ment out right away and i sent the mixed up rod back and i believe
he refunded shipping as credit on the next order.been so
long i can't remeber.but no problem.
shoot iam even thinking about ordering from this
place in Germany that has some cool stuff.
should be interesting....
-
Scott, man whats wrong with ordering from the UK?
i have never had a problem from the shops i have ordered
from,my next move is Specialist tackle, very US freindly.
most of the shops are over there.Ebay is another thing
but you can persuade some of these sellers to ship here.
i can have alot of stuff shipped to peoples houses over there that will send it here when it arrives.
shoot, wait untill my aunt gets back in the air flying again,
iam going to be placeing large orders, with free shipping
when you think about it shipping is pretty cheap, you
ussually get it in under 5 days, thats faster than alot of places here.
-
that would be the only explanation for the threads on the
legs,its kind of odd though
-
iam not a big fan of fox pods but i think the euro pod is
a damn good pod.i didn't at first but in time i grew to like
it.iam going to have to get a solar to fit in with the stainless crew ,but i won't be getting one of those
croc jobs,..ugly IMO.....now a pod i wish i could find is
an old Obelisk multi stand pod,i really liked the looks of those.
Pa,i have compared a few of the higher cost ss jobs
and lower costs (sod against, nash power something)
and the difference goes without saying.....heres a question
why dose Nash put a screw/drill on the end of the pod
legs, they don't really expect that some one would use
those little sticks as a rod support,do they?
-
yeah it probably did take a long time to get the colors to
perfection.i would like to read more on this type of stuff
but most of the REALLY good info is in japanese or chinese.i use to have some cool koi keeping/breeder
mags from japan that had very ineteresting pics but
i can't read a bit of that language the pics were
like a step by step process of hand stripping eggs from female koi and mixing with milt.this is how most ''hybrids'' are made in other species of fish, but its the easiest way to
create cool colors for koi.
-
how did the ''original koi'' come about?carp would of
had to produce some color pigmnet in at least one specimen,right/or are all koi desendents from some hybrid?......but hold on how did the gold fish first produce
its coloration.they sure did not die fish like they do now.
-
what about these FREAKS!!!!!!
j.tonn.tripod.com/butterflykoi.jpg
no,really i know how these are made
-
keith,
could it be possible to have a cross between carp/goldfish
(has happened) and have hybrid off spring with colorful
pigment in the wild?
-
Keith,
that fish you are holding looks so clean, excelent looking
fish.
