the fights ussually are poor, and gets worse the bigger
they are IMO.although they DO have amazing speed, and
when you put that with a good hard run(which they give
here and there)they can almost yank the rod from your hand.i have seen them things come out of the water 4 ft
when hooked, and possibly higher when they get caught in the electric current from a shock boat even if the
fight is rather poor, they still look good on the mat.
-
see,i told you they would get more numerous once
you get the first one.

i have seen a few commons with this, but,MAN! i have seen
SO many grass carp with is problem its unreal.every lake
i have caught grass carp from,i have seen at least one with
this problem.fish of all sizes too.i seen a NICE,28lber caught
last year that had a huge knot at the tail base.i chalk it up
to be birth defects in lake fish.this kind of thing is seen in aquarium fish also.if a fish is kept in too small a tank,or
if the water conditions are poor for long periods it can
cause spinal curves.another factor is a form of TB found in
fish, which i hear can be spread to humans by handling
infected fish.its kind of crazy really.BTW alot of gar get
kinked up like this also.some so bad after a while they will
only swim in circles.
iam still baffled by the numbers of grassers i have seen
with this problem.i wonder if it could be a side effect of the
sterilization process???

100% goldfish

nice drum there Stripped, and the sucker is not bad
either i find it interesting that you caught those
fish on the baits you did.corn and bread.i fish for suckers
here and there(mostly white, redhorse)and have only
caught a few on corn.most fall for the live baits ussually.
i have yet to catch a drum,i live 35 miles from Lake Erie
and still have not caught one even though
i have never caught a drum, its good to know that they will
take baits like corn and boilies(who knew?).i guess they
will eat ''anything''
-
i used a pair of 9' brekley reflex rods for carp.they are good
rods IMO.not too stiff for carpfishing, even though they
are cat rods.they are strongly built rods too(i did however
''blow''one up while spodding )i wish they would come out with the reflex in a black colored blank,or just anything besides white or if they ever did make another color it
would be some ugly red color i bet.

hey, lets see some pics of these salmons when you
get some.
-
alot of people picks them up by their gills that dosen't
know better, look at the TV shows, they all lift big fish up
by the gills. ever see how those guys lift
muskie by one gill plate theres like a 2 ft gap
between the gill and the fishes body.and they claim
to be fish biologists,ect.
-
ok,i just did some looking around and appear to
have it down now, even though i all ready new
just have too see some more of these guys in person.
-
so,its SM buffs for sure,no blacks or LM.any LM caught
that you know of?
-
yes, definally large buffs but which species?
-
OK,you guys have confused Payara here.i thought
all these buffs being posted and caught were small
mouths so some are large mouths,or possibly
blacks????iam confused here.are any of these fish posted
on any thread reguarding buffs been large mouths???
i have never come across any LM buffs in person
but according to photos the mouth IS much larger
than the SM.with the SM buff's mouth being almost
identical to a common carp???PLEASE somebody break
the id down to me i don't want to be wrong in id-ing
a species here
-
NICE!!!!
-
those are nice fish,i like the blueish look to them.
-
Keith, wheres the 50's?did i miss them in another thread?
-
Keith, yeah my first instinct when hereing of
a 40+being caught by bass anglers is grass carp
unless there is a picture, ussually,at least in my area
it is a grasser of some giant size they catch.plus
iam not familiar with the water, but the word ''slough''
made me think grass carp,as i have heard of /seen
grass carp in canals in CA but in the southern part
of the state.
-
i bet money its a grass carp
-
its un-freakin-believeable! i guess it pays to
have a good teacher and a good water.
-
wheres the pics Keith?????
-
been chasing the carps almost always for 11 years.if
i was not trying to catch a carp i was fishing for other
''rough'' fish like grass carp(which were more common than commons when i was growing up)chubs(one of my favorites to fish for )smaller suckers like
redhorse,white,quailbacks,ect. about 5-6 years ago
i developed an interest in buffalo, after reading ''fishing
for buffalo''but my area lacks waters that contain alot
of them
-
i havent seen it,but i would think it to be grass carp
with length like that.i wish the in-fisherman people
would get the weights of these fish and the proper
name of the fish.they do it every year.
-
iam suprised the hook did not pull first with
useing that braid.i have snapped rods before,
never on a fish,but on snags.it sucks.
nice fish though, man.BTW how warm is it
in Mn looks all warm in that picture
-
they had that on the news, and i believe it was gutted
-
BTW,whats the fight like of a fish that
large,buff i mean.is it harder or lighter
than carp of same size?
i knew it was possible to catch big fish on
small baits
Other fish caught while carping?
