superb video. I haven't got any work done for the last 90 mins..but couldn't be happier..

I know the crow isn't in MN because chumming is illegal. That's why I never chum. I only keep my spods and slingshots to feed ducks which aren't there..

Rubbish! I spent 7 hours fishing with bread on Saturday and couldn't even buy a bite..and this guy catches a fish with his beak!

I normally use feed corn, boiled for a couple of hours. Sometimes I add flavor.
I have used frozen corn, but I have boiled it first. I normally save the water used for boiling for boiling boilies/adding to method mixes or just putting it out on the water.

The cabin belongs to another CAG member. He's nice enough to let a few of us join in and fish

Jerome...it's only for the carp...cannot be shared

If this was in MN, there would be 400 bowhunters standing on each other's back and 10 dnr officials cheering them on. So we know it's not in our state :-)
-
Yes. The new pod helped catch the first fish :-)
As for bait, you can take whatever I have. I have no secrets there. The secret is the special carp song and dance I do before casting off :-)

Was a fun read...thanks for sharing

nice fish! I'm slowly learning that carp aren't as picky about the colder weather as I am :-)

How long does a net handle need to be to pick up a fish from some of those pegs? Or did people lower those basket nets? Nice job guys!

Well, CT threw in his kitchen sink last night. This morning I set out for the lake before dawn. Driving through dawn in the open country is always a treat..
Once I hauled my gear down to the lake, I took a minute to catch my breath and enjoy the scenery. I then proceeded to spod out a reasonable amount, knowing that CT had already thrown in the kitchen sink over night. I wanted to make prepare a small patch of water to call my own :-)
Thanks to the MN 1 rod policy, my setup looked lonely (maybe I broke that rule, maybe I didn't...will never tell!)
Jaffar and CT soon joined in, and then the party started! First there were the bull heads swallowing 30mm snowman rigs. But once I changed to a different flavor (secret!), the alarms started screaming!
My first fish: 15.4
Jaffar caught up quickly with a healthy one..
My PB: 24.11
Jaffar was quick to follow up with a 22.11
Overall the 3 of us picked up over 10 carp over 12lbs. Fantastic day of fall fishing in Minnesota!

There are quite few pics on the Connecticut Carp Open facebook page.

Just have to ask...does the mat show a carp wearing a bandana ?
-
nice fish. Next spring, I am setting up a tent on your shoreline and living there for a while :-) .Let's home they won't bring on commercial fishermen and haul these carp away...I know they are always looking to do that around here
-
good looking fish and cool mat :-)

nice piggie!

I heard CT caught a large channel cat to spice up his birthday!
Jaffar, that should be in the low 20's. Good looking fish. Too bad my weekends have been filled up with family activities. Would have loved to wet the lines.

Minnesota would be perfect for me. As for chumming, I normally just feed the ducks which aren't there :-)
CCC in Minnesota would really help bring on a positive image here. There are thousands of lakes and they all have carp, but the public has a very distorted image of these fish. A fishing tournament would really help.
Other than MN, anywhere withing 6-8 hours driving distance would be fine. I would also like a location where 50%+ of anglers have the opportunity to catch fish. For a 1 day tourney, it's tough to drive for hours knowing that you have slim chances for catching a fish ( even if it's a pig).
Just my 2 cents. We hope to have more fish-in's in MN next year so hope to see more people coming this way.

Nice fish and good story! I would say the fish in the picture is 18.8 lbs. But you can say it's a 20lb beast :-)
When fishing flooded rivers, I normally pitch the hook bait close to shore and pray that the fish won't go between trees. Have lost a lot of fish that way...but have caught some pigs as well.
-
nice fish! Still haven't had the pleasure of hooking into one of those mirrors in Minnesota. Saw 2, but they were both in coolers. Eastern European fishing group had caught both and were going to smoke them (I have nothing against people keeping carp if the will eat them)

I have pics of the kid hugging the carp, but will text the dad for permission to post it. Kid was screaming like a banshee when fighting the fish. Helps you remember why we fish for these fighting fish- it's pure joy.
