  1. Thanks! I'm really looking forward to making the next batch completely from scratch. Big Carp Tackle is addictive....it's literally every Carp anglers' dream come true. I'm suprised our wives/girlfriends haven't banned together to devise some catchy slogan to stop the madness...."BIG CARP TACKLE....NOT EVEN ONCE". Fortunately, my wife enjoys getting in the kitchen not only for cooking but to help make boilies! I consider myself a lucky guy but the question is how long will it last?

Another question I have pertaining to the Boilie topic is can I use packbait (oats) with them? I know, there is obviously no Carp fishing law that states I cannot but will it work just as well as method mix? Being that I've never made a method mix, I only know that packbait works and if something works, why change? I've had great success using pack over the years and I can only imagine it getting better with the addition of boilies, that is, when they are onto them consistently.

  2. Halfway through that video you posted Moon and I had to pause to head over to Big Carp Tackle! Luckily for me, they had ONE bag of it left so I had to snatch it up. Looking forward to using it in my next mix; have a good idea for it. I also grabbed the last 5 Kg bag of Equinox base mix ( Because it's Brian Wingard approved! Lol but seriously, the man knows his stuff). Did you make this Video Moon? Brookesy, thank you for the links to the articles! I read one and will be sure to read the other two as soon as I am through this video. Anyone else know of some good additives/ingredients? I have some protein powder (for working out) here in my kitchen and it seems relatively safe to use. I was thinking about using it to boost protein content and add attraction as its Vanilla flavored. The man in the video mentioned whey protein and it made me wonder if what I have would be safe to use.

  3. Hey guys, hope the new year is treating all of you well! So far so good here, been busy making boilies for the upcoming season (storing them in freezer). I had a couple of questions regarding this....How long do the boilies last in the freezer as I've heard they generally keep for up to a year if they aren't thawed and refrozen. I was using Wacker Baits Preferred 24 Base Mix (good stuff, rolls well) but recently ran out and discovered that apparently they don't awl it anymore? I'm somewhat new to this as I've never made my own base mix. Does anyone have a good solid foundation for a base mix that they would be willing to share? I'm not asking for well guarded secrets, just something that will roll well. I've heard that Semolina, Soy Flour and Cornmeal are the foundation but I have no idea of the ratios I should use. Thanks!

  4. Thanks for the encouragement guys. Sorry, it took so long to get back to you but I've been crazy busy with work (kind of ironic being that I work directly in front of the dam and lake lol). Unfortunately, I'm afraid I may be waiting till next year to try this spot out as the temps are steadily falling and large amounts of OT will be up for grabs at my job through winter. Fitzz, what is this "Sandys" that you speak of?

  5. Yes, the chemical "reclamation" did nothing in the long haul, which is great. If anything, ultimately, it allowed for greater numbers of larger Carp. The DNR really needs to understand that the turbidity of that body of water (as well as many others) is primarily caused by human activity (boating, jet skis, agricultural runoff, etc.). If you've ever watched a Carp feed on a silt bottom before in clear water, you'll see that it doesn't take long for the silt to settle back down.

I recently visited this great venue a couple of weeks ago. Between my father and I we caught about 35 in 10 hrs.; the largest being 25 lbs. However, there are definitely ALOT bigger ones in there. If anybody goes out there, try soaking your hookbaits in Feedstim XP. They were hitting so hard that the bobbin would fly off the line! Gotta love fall Carping! We simply went right off the dock and were having success in the shallows by day and more into the channel around dusk.

  6. Well, welcome (again)! I appreciate the response at least. I don't know if I'm cursed on this forum or what but I haven't been getting much help when it comes to the Michigan part lol. You just move here?

  7. Does anyone know of any good bank fishing spots at Holloway Reservoir besides the docks on the edge of town? There has to be somewhere else... Going up there next weekend and just wanted something out of the norm. I appreciate any help! By the way, where the hell are all of the Michigan anglers? This part of the forum has been dead...

  8. I happened to have a few minutes before work today so I decided to stop by Belleville Dam. It looks like it may be a productive spot, albeit a small spot, but it appears to hold alot of potential. I asked a couple of guys who were fishing there if they knew if their were Carp in there (I already know there is) and they all got wide eyed and excitedly told me about big ones they'd witnessed (Torpedos they called them lol). Has anybody here fished below the dam?

  9. While I will say I'm not up for the argument itself, I will say that part of what we do in this club is take care of the Carp we catch. I really think this is what Darren was hinting at (correct me if I'm wrong). It's literally everywhere you look. Landing mats, retention slings, Carp care kits, rigs specifically designed for the Carps wellbeing, etc. In fact, out of all of the species specific anglers I've encountered, Carp anglers seem to pride themselves the most in this (and so they should!). I can see the point about driving the hook into the fishes mouth, but this wouldn't be a sport without doing so, right? Carp, in particular, seem to heal relatively fast so as long as we safely unhook them this shouldn't be a cause for concern. As a testament to their toughness, I've seen them with arrow wounds and broken backs, still going about their business. Something like that deserves respect! I know, to some its "just a fish" but to me it truly is the worlds greatest freshwater sport fish and that alone warrants our consideration.

On to the original topic...how much do you guys think the total cost for everything I will need will be? I'm talking all the supplies to run this rig all season without worry of running out of vital items. I'm just trying to get an idea of what you all spend as I am on somewhat of a budget. I appreciate everyone's help so far!

  10. You'd think that after fishing for Carp (almost exclusively) for 14 years that Id know a thing or two about the hair rig. Truth is, I don't. I've relied heavily upon slipsinker rigs (paste bomb) and circle hooks. While this worked for quite a while on my local Carp spot, I believe they've become hip to it. Recently, I watched a video that Jerome uploaded to YouTube that shows underwater footage of a short hair rig in action. At the beginning of the video it shows a still shot of the rig. I see that he's using a 3 oz. fox fixed lead and a fox anti-tangle sleeve. This seems like a good setup but I'd like to hear from others as to what they think or use. Do these sIeeves come in various sizes? I have zero experience with this rig and I need to learn it fast, as my catch rate is dropping! Also, I am currently using two 9 ft. Wychwood Extricators (2.75 lb. test curve). Would these be able to handle the weight of the rig?
