  1. Quick question: Would any of you recommend adding a sweetener (sweet 34) to the R&W when using it for particles. I ask this because I decided to taste (a drop half the size of my fingernail) one of the flavors and I noticed that while it did have the flavor it smelt of, it also had a slight bitterness. Do you think the Carp would be deterred by this? They certainly don't refuse it in oats but that also has cream corn in it, acting as a mild sweetener...

  2. I currently use Wychwood Solace alarms and they seem quite sensitive for roller style alarms. I'm sure that they aren't as sensitive as Delkims but they've performed well the past couple of seasons. I keep the sensitivity on the highest setting (6 levels) so I'm almost positive it would register. Good point on the swingers SoCal, I will definitely keep that in mind!

  3. This really brings back the memories! Back before me and my Carp fishing buddies were focused enough to save for proper gear, we'd hold our poles for HOURS. Granted, they were only 7' ugly sticks but nonetheless, the glare from the sun would become brutal at times (had to watch line for activity) so we'd occasionally set them down for refreshments, food, shade, etc. I would constantly tell them to keep the pole within 1-2 ft of reach and that the Carp were notorious for robbing tackle. Sure enough, at least one guy (myself included) would either lose a setup or come damn close! To top it off, we weren't using bait runners so you can imagine how fast the rods would take off! Good times

  4. Im going to be purchasing my first pod and realized I'm going to need a few items with it. My question is what are the weights called that hang behind the alarm attached to the line? Do they come in various weights and if so, what's a good all around one? I apologize for the newbie question but I am just getting my feet seriously wet with Euro gear (addiction in the making....)!

  5. For starters, I'll admit I'm probably going against the grain with this post lol. I wanted to ask you guys why do alot of people believe that circle hooks are not applicable in our pursuit for Carp? I understand that certain rigs ( hair rig) are naturally going to be more successful due to the way it acts upon the carps' feeding habits. However, I have had great success using a simple running rig consisting of a Fox feeder lead, a split shot and a size 1 Gamakatsu Octopus Circle Hook ( I know...primitive). I can't tell you how many times I've had blistering takes occur using this. Granted, this isnt exactly long range stuff we're talking about but from about 60 yards in it works a treat. I use 30 lb. Power Pro and I keep the baitrunner drag at about a quarter of the way on (just enough resistance to sink the hook in). Am I doing something differently or have I just been getting lucky all these years? Let's hear what you guys think...

  6. Do you mean the entire body of water or just that spot? I'm not against catching my first buffalo so that would be a nice suprise. Know anything about Ford and Belleville Lake. I work right on the shore of Lake Belleville and Ford is just a stone throw away...

  7. I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea as to where to fish at Sterling State Park. The last two times I've went (my first two) I fished next to the parking lot and blanked hard lol. Is this body of water "seasonal" or am I just in the wrong spot all together? Also, if anyone knows, what's the average depth and does it get very weedy in the summer? I know a few of you frequent this spot semi-regularly so any help would be greatly appreciated!
