  1. Hello fellow carpers, my name is Jeff. I live within 200 yards of the Merrimack River in Nashua and fish it as much as possible. I'm always open for get togethers and company on the bank locally or within a reasonable drive. Hit me up, I'd love to meet some other NH anglers.

  2. Jeff,

It's not really winter yet, with the current mild weather. If you are looking at river spots, I would be looking for areas off the main channel or flow with a decent depth of water. However, a common misconception is that the carp will be in the deepest water, which is not always the case. Once the water temps get below 40 degrees or so they will look for the most comfortable temperatures. This might be at 8ft in 12ft of water or 14ft in 20ft of water etc. The carp may sit in this depth for most of the day or night but will move when they decide to feed. During the day this will usually be to shallower water (as this warms up the quickest).

Once you have found the fish, the key to keeping them feeding all the way through the winter is to keep a trickle of bait going in regularly. I would start my search on the river at any bridges, behind the structures and then start to look for eddies and slack sections.

    Good luck

Thank you, I will keep looking in the areas you mentioned. Your articles have been very helpful also, thanks again.

  3. Looks like a great outing and some beautiful fish!!!

I am getting very frustrated trying to find a winter spot, here in NH. I have blanked the last 6-7 outings and am considering packing up the rods until spring. I have tried everywhere I can think of where they could be and have read and tried all the accepted/preferred methods. I am really looking forward to the warmer weather already.

  4. Got my spot in same area you're in and in May-June when the water was even lower than now I baited maybe 40-50 yards down from where I had been doing real well in Aug. - Sept. and my friend got a 26/lb...........I may need to bait that for this weekend...........

Maybe I'll see you out there. I'm planning on hitting it up this weekend also. Maybe we could meet up somewhere/some time?

  5. Thank you Franky. I design and produce large format graphics at work, so this was a fairly easy project. I printed out 2 pieces of 13oz scrim vinyl banner (50"x30"), then sewed them together (similar to a pillowcase) added grommets in the corners. For the padding a buddy of mine cut a piece of cardboard, wrapped it in hd bubble wrap and sealed it in a shrink wrap plastic. The padding can be slid in or out throught the open end of the mat. I made mine in early August and its still holding up pretty well, it goes with me a few times a week and I'm pretty rough on it, so far so good. Here is a pic of a few I made for a couple buddies.

  6. Thanks Will, the drop was a surprise to me. I fished it mon am and got there saturday to find an extra 6 feet of bank! Haha. This swim has produced really well all summer, but not quite this well. I fish the Nashua/Merrimack area a lot and am always searching for areas that'll work well at different levels. I think I found my new low water swim!!

  7. Nice fish thanks for joining i see TOKS in your pics. We are also having something here in CAG the fall big 4. You might want to join lots of prizes for a small fee. Read the rules it might be of interest. Keep them coming

I will definitely check it out. I glanced at it but honestly assumed it was too late. I will read it over again though. There is so much info, events and activity here it is a little overwhelming at first, in a good way.

  8. It sure does. I'm a graphic designer and just doodled it up one day while I was slow at work. I stick decals of it here and there on my gear or vehicles, I thought it was a fun logo/picture. A couple of buddies have nicknamed me "The Underground Kid" recently because of it. It's all in good fun.

  9. Haha, thank you. I made the mat myself, it is 50" long and has 4" of padding. I'm on the hunt for a cradle now, my mat gets slippery and I fish alone a lot so I need to find a better way to secure the fish while I run to trigger the self timer on the camera.

  10. Thanks guys, I just started targeting carp on the fly in early spring and made the switch to bait in mid June. I love it and haven't looked back! I try to get out a few times a week, and am currently working on a plan to try and attempting to pattern my local carp to keep it going year round. We'll see how successful that goes....

Thanks again for the warm welcome. I'm still working my way through the wealth of information here, and am looking forward to making positive contributions.
