  1. Looking to use coated hooklink. Don't want to start a debate but what are your preferred brands and lb. break strength. Have looked at Fox Coretex Matt and it looks like high quality stuff. Looking for a semi-stiff link that doesn't need to be heated to be straightened and the skin peels easy but still holds up when tying at the loop end. Any reviews or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  2. Thanks for all the replies. All sound advice, especially about taking the right bag out of the freezer so you don't have corn for dinner. :)

Been looking for a 1 or 2 gallon plastic pail or bucket with a lid but can't seem anything unless you buy 3. Gonna stop at Home Depot and see if they sell empty paint buckets with lids. Even tupperware or something like that. Handle would be handy though.

  3. ^^ this right here is what I use also. Works great and like stated it comes on lots of cloth with tags. Works great in my eyes because the ends are bigger which makes it harder for the loop on the hair to slip off.

And as for the corn use boiled deer corn. Cheaper and tougher and can add your flavor of preference so its not to plain. But corn out of the can seems to always work. When I do use that tactic I use it straight on the hook a few pieces instead of a hair

And as for flavor I have used scopex in the past and have caught catfish so I just stayed away from the flavor. I love fruity flavor baits

How did scopex work on carp? I would not mind catching a cat here and there at all.

  4. For a bait stop on a hair rig, I use a piece of rubber band. We get them six times a week with our newspaper. Free bait stops!!!!!

Been thinking alot about this lately. What are your thoughts on using 1/8" or 1/4" square pcs of rubber band for stops? One wrinkle. Why not put one pc on the hair first. Then the corn, then the last stop. This way you can snug the first stop and the corn stack against the last stop and it should stay put. The first stop should grip the hair pretty tightly and stay secure when cinched up. Any comments would be appreciated.

  5. Talked my buddy into going with this morning. We parked and walked down to the river and he said we're not going to catch anything in here. He's lived a few blocks away for ten years and never thought of fishing in it. Not 5 minutes after chumming and getting our lines out I hooked up a nice 10 lber. He still couldn't believe it after netting the fatty. Not 10 minutes later I looked over and his line was moving so I said I think your getting a bite. He picked up the rod and it doubled over and in a few minutes I netted another nice one around 10. Together we got 8 fish from 5-10 lbs. in about 3 hours. As we were packing up all he kept saying was when are we gonna go again? Another convert. Only drawback is once he gets some equipment, he'll be fishing in my spot!

  6. I have been getting at least a few decent sized carp every time I go. All I have been using is canned sweetcorn on a bare hook. Really want to make the hair rig work. Gonna try some homemade maize and probably buy some prepared corn and compare. Hooking a 20 lb submarine on 8 lb line is a gas. Might sell the boat and all my bass tackle. Probably not.

  7. Really starting to get addicted to carp. There is a river 6 blocks from my house that I have been fishing and have already got a couple over 20 and several over 10. Been using corn right on the hook with small clamshot from Bass Pro. Tied up a few hair rigs but haven't had any success. Rig comes back empty 75% of the time when I reel in to check it. Gonna try some Dynamite Baits carp corn as it looks to be tougher than canned sweet corn. My question is what is the most popular flavor? Scopex, Tuti-futi, Pinapple, Maple Syrup or Mussel. I can't find just plain sweet corn flavor.

    Thank in advance.
