  1. Hey guys! I just started getting into carp fishing and I am looking for some new spots in north carolina to fish. I know of paylakes of course but I have never fished in those. A week or so ago I caught a 14.5 common carp out of the haw river, and I am looking for some tips to be able to catch more of them when I go, but also during the day because they do not bite much then. I caught this fish around 7:00 to 7:30 with a panko, instant grits, R&W strawberry butternut juice, and cream corn pack bait with a hair rig with a fake piece of pop-up corn. Thanks for reading! Leave any tips or ideas you have for how to catch more and where I can go for that. - Jack
  2. Just in time for the eclipse, before the world's end, it's time to refill your mug, put up your feet, sit back and enjoy our latest episode ! A busy work schedule had too long kept me from the water. Finally we managed to get out and put in a couple of sessions at the Fairgrounds. With the clear skies, burning temperatures, it was always going to be tough fishing. Yet we stuck it out and managed to land a few nice fish. Victory Coffee, tastes as good ever ! Hope you Enjoy ! John
  3. Had some time this afternoon to fish with my son, and we caught 2 channel cats, two turtles, and 5 carp, 6-4, 6-14, 7-7, 8-0, 4-6, the latter of which was the chunkiest carp we've ever caught and a great golden color- almost a goldfish!- all fish fought very hard, apparently recuperating from the flooding, these are the most beautiful fish we've caught from any swim!- no specific explanation why.....,the 7lbr had a damaged mouth, and the 8lbr has a paired split barbell, which we find commonly...................
  4. Went to find some new swims, hoping the historic flooding in KC placed carp in some nearby ponds; some creeks had obviously flooded the ponds but cant find the fish............so, I found a new creek swim and WOW, in just a few hours, I caught 5 carp; 8-11, 11-3, 4-12, 15-11 and a great 17-0!!, some of the prettiest carp I've ever seen-great gold and red color, though none fought as hard as usual-I'm thinking they were fatigued from fighting the flood currents........saw dozens in this swim, which is maybe 100yards long and 20 yards across, but only 6-7 feet deep...........subtle bite technique...........trying to keep the same face.....
  5. So....just before the rain ( again!) I fished my new swim- caught 4 channels up to 4lbs, lost a carp in a snag-hook pull, then caught this 12-14, but as I walked to the creek I found one pond had been flooded with carp- dozens at the surface gulping.......near dark I went to the pond and caught another channel immediately, landed this 7-4 and lost TWO more carp to straight hook pulls!.....Hadn't had that many carp in a session get away!!.........I usually change line ties every 3rd fish and hooks when they dull but these seemed ok...............waiting for the rains to stop- no creek fishing for a bit- switching to lakes!........
  6. ..............well, had another opportunity to explore some swims this afternoon, and before long, albeit a little slow, caught these 4 commons, three channel catfish and one turtle; all in 2 and one half hours of fishing, just before the rains moved in.....seem to be mostly same age-class fish, as they were all very close in size and weight; one fish much longer than the rest though.............always looking!!! o
  7. Well, it's not been too long, your coffee pot is likely still warm, so sit back, pour yourself a hot mug of java and enjoy our latest episode. With our recent success fishing overnight we returned to Chatfield for another session. Over confident from our previous trip we setup in the rain and wind, anticipating many catches. A few catfish graced the net, including a big fat channel cat. We did land some baby carp and finally a few nice low doubles. Tough night, but still fun. Victory Coffee is not just for carp, any great catch is worthy of a mug! Hope you enjoy ! Tight-Lines, John CarpQuest
  8. Tried a local lake very early this morning with no hits, then went to a local creek and was 5 for 5, anywhere from 8-17lbs, the latter of which had a broken hair rig with shrink tubing and 3 pieces of fake corn-my hook was right next to it!!!!.. couldn't tell how long the fish had it; I've never seen other fisherman here at all, so maybe the fish come from upstream, but it's be a ways-no good pools for a mile or so.......Soooo, I gained tackle today instead of losing a rig!!....
  9. Well carp fans, it's been way too long with the mug sat empty. So it's time once again to put on the coffee pot, rinse off the mug and prepare to watch another episode. In this week’s new episode of CarpQuest we fish an overnight session at Chatfield Reservoir. With daytime temps pushing 100F, the bite slow, this could be our best change to get some fish on the mat. Hope you enjoy ! John CarpQuest
  10. Hello all!! Well...after an exhausting CAG Big 4 I had to take a break and go fishing, so we went with my two brothers and two of my sons to Minnesota and caught some quality fish!!......in 7 days, we caught 80-90 pike (I was able to catch 42),.. several walleye, a dozen or more largemouth and a large smallmouth, plus two Master Angler Rock bass!..............however, even the largest fish didn't come close to our average carp!!.....back to carpin this week!......
  11. Came across this reading my issue of International Angler, published by the IGFA- so there is recognition of the common carp as a sport fish on an International level!!!!.....with conventional tackle!!!!!.....maybe one of us should enter-eh?...................
  12. Here we go!..........90 minutes to fish and caught a nice 8lb 12ozer, then this channel cat that literally leapt 2 feet straight into the air!!!............It is heavier than any individual we caught last week in Minnesota!!!!....
  13. If all the fish are "approved", then it makes this 95th, 13-14lbr my 1,000lb carp for the CAG BIG FOUR Spring 2017!!.....so thankful for CAG members support and advice!!!....can't compete with the big boys in terms of massive fish, but I like catchin many!!.............
  14. Fishing today added four more carp and MY PERSONAL BEST MIRROR!!!!!......although I've only caught 4 since starting carpin last summer.....appreciate all the tips and support of CAG members!!!
  15. Hello everyone. I am an avid fly fisherman along with my 11 year old son. We recently carp fished for the first time on the Wye River and we are COMPLETELY hooked. I've fished for species all over the east coast and abroad, and we had more fun with theses dirty little devils. I fully understand that fisherman are a clammy bunch when it comes to sharing locations, but could anyone offer us some potential spots to target carp in Maryland? Willing to travel, but preferably on the Eastern Shore and AA County. Thanks so much for your help.
  16. Finally able to fish after an international trip, flooding, rain, rain, rain, cold temps, and 2 straight nights without so much as a hit!!!!! very frustrating but today it was sunny, and the creek was clear....within 15 minutes had two carp and less than 30 minutes later, another, then 2 more at the end of the day!!.....total 4/8, 13/0, 12/8, 11/0, 10/0.....nice when you can run a stretch over 10lbs!!.......though can't get a stretch over 20s!!!

  18. Our first full session of the new season takes us back to Adams County Fairgrounds in Colorado. With only a few fish showing I made the switch to Nashbaits The Key and was rewarded with my first carp of the year. Much victory coffee was consumed. Hope you enjoy the session ! Tight-Lines, John CarpQuest
  19. Hi all! The carpin continues, but at a slower rate....Sundays total was only 2 carp, lost one (snapped on the rocks), but decent sized at 7.3 and 10lb 8oz....then Monday was a little tougher but we split with a carp apiece-5.4lbs and 4.6lbs...his had a healed scar on the left side- he's still looking for his 10lbr, but coming close!!!...got snow and very cold weather so we'll see what the next couple days brings fishin!!!.......got a little more time as the garage is completely clean!... good luck all!!
  20. Hi all! I'll admit this is weird request, but is there someone close to Jenkintown PA that can pick up and ship (i'll pay for shipping, etc.) a large (45lb) carp statue I am purchasing?-there's no shipping from the seller.........thanks for at least thinking about it!!........
  21. Another weekend, another couple carp-these are a little nicer though- a 12lb 12ozer, then an 8 and 1/2 lbr!, both of which were caught in a creek just 2 minutes from the house!..the smaller fish was the hardest fighter....the 12lbr not so much......the creek has a series of very large, deep holes at a bend in the creek....I've caught lots of small channel cats, a couple of small mouth buffalos and my first river carpsucker-(just an inch off a master angler award), as well as mostly small to medium carp-the 12lbr is about the largest I've seen or caught in this part of the creek, but I think it holds larger!......Not an ATC event, but it'll do for the 90 minutes I had after cleaning 1/2 of the garage today!!......enjoy!.....

  23. Hello all!! February is winding down, but not the carpin!.......6 fish on Sunday, 2 on Monday, and then this afternoon, 3 more....my son landed 2 like a pro- you can see his confidence growing with each outing!.....Doesn't match Luke's latest 100lb challenge in 2 hours on Cats and Carp.com, or even close to what you're going to catch at ATC (-I wish I was there, even just to watch!!)....but it is still nice to have the chance to fish!!....hope ya like- all caught from a 300yd stretch of creek- 3lbs to a couple of 9lbrs and todays fish topped 218lbs for the month.............things are warming up!!!.... good luck all wherever you're fishin, and those who aren't-GO-or you will regret it...
  24. ...and the carpin continues, though not as hot as last week...6 fish the past two days, 5+,5+,6+,7+,8+ including this very fat, very dark 10lbr today (last pic)......and another couple split barbell fish-our department of conservation is interested in these as a possible sequela to pollution!, and surprisingly, when I told them I had caught two mirrors this past fall, they were very interested and asked to keep them up to date on any further catches.......if anyone in Missouri has or does catch some mirrors, can you contact me?............supposed to warm into the 60s by the end of the week, so I'm thinking about goin carpin......
  25. Hi all! I have a simple request; can ya'll send me a photo, with a weight and length, of any common carp you catch with fan-shaped/branched barbels?....I have now caught 5, all from the same location so far and I am trying to see if this is a step-up in evolution of carp barbels-branching to gain surface area and increase success of finding food-maybe pressure from less food in the waterway?...anyway-just seein if anyone out there has caught carp with similar barbels-appreciate any help!!......MO Carper..........
