Nice report Brian................Congrats
Karl

Love them snotties!!!
Those fish have won me a great deal of money on the match circuit back in the UK. I once had a netful in a large match on the Stainforth and Keadby Canal that weighed just over 41lb......Worth a couple of hundred quid back when an apprenticeship paid about 18 quid a week.
Funny thing is the old timer sitting next to me never had a fish, he insisted on sitting out for the bream (That were not caught for 25 pegs either side of us!!!)
Give me a venue full of eels and I am one happy camper.

Nice!! :D

Buster
Please show respect to your catch by holding them in a better manner....Surely you know you should never be in the standing position when taking trophy shots!!!
And where the hell is your unhooking mat???
Karl :D

Thanks Iain, I was looking all over for the site.

:D :D
Doesn't look an ounce over 27lb!!!

Again mid to high 30
What they claiming it to be.
I hope this isn't a site that is promoting fishing in the US
This over claiming (if it is over claiming) has been going on with companies and at venues all over France for years. Puts a lot of people off.
Karl
-
Yeah I agree................Mid to upper 30.
Just as a matter of interest what weight is being claimed??

Nice coverage Dave

hi all
not sure whether i'm qualified to give my opinion not living your side ,but having fished two of em your going to get it anyway!
alot of talk about dead pegs here. well what's a dead peg? somewhere that has not fished due to the weather?
look at this year for example.......the creek did well first day then dave and al drew there second day and as soon as i saw their draw i said game over. what did they catch? i rate them up with the best but they caught diddly.
i've heard the the talk about the creek before but it was about dropping those swim's from the atc as people caught too many fish! at the end of the day you had a hot spell just before, then a colder spell during, then mixed weather after. the carp did'nt know what they were doing and went through the motions for the whole week after.
what to do on the date? well i say keep it the same because apart from 1st street and a couple of spots, a good peg one day does not fish the next!
we came second the first time round with over 400lb but had two swim's that seemed devoid of fish this year. although we caught it was'nt about that for me and james at all. it was about learning new stuff, fishing hard for that one bite but ultimately having fun.
i love the whole social aspect of the atc and for me its one of the main reasons why i've travelled near enough 5000 miles each way twice to fish it! don't underestimate the part of all meeting up and having a laugh.i find it a breath of fresh air compared to the cut throat(literally) scene we have here.
to those who say its all about catching i'd say that would'nt be fishing.nobody's got a given right to catch so get real, its about being there!
regards
andrew
p.s can those people that mention the dead area's start naming them as i think history will say otherwise.
pps it would possibly be better if the pegs were chosen on current weather conditions a week or two prior instead of past atc's.....just a thought!
edited to say about pressure! do people think town carp are getting smarter just because of recent results? it makes me laugh to say there's 'pressure' on a lake over 400 acres that see's for the most part, two anglers a week apart from atc. they might be line shy but they certainly are NOT pressured and they aint getting any more clued up because. its down to the WEATHER more than anything else!
Nice post there sir!!!
I just wanted to know if it is going to happen that's all, no more no less..............Vacation time to book!!!
Karl
-
Agreed............Pre baiting is a definite no no in my book too!!
After all isn't baiting a swim correctly during an event part of the skill of angling................
How many times do you see a guy walk to his swim and spend the first 30 minutes or more piling bait in, thus emptying his swim of any fish in it at the time?? It amazes me to this day.
The swim can be ruined from the off...............I don't want someone elses idea of correct pre-baiting going on in my swim after driving 1500 miles.
If I bollox up my swim then so be it, but not someone else doing the bolloxing please.
Leave the piling bait in to the noddies, and let the anglers do their own baiting.
The only exception to this in my fishing is when I am on the Colorado, where there are just so many fish, that I feel happy rowing a boat out and dumping a chitload of gear in several hours before I actually fish.

Here's the situation....
In order to keep room rates reasonable at a nice hotel,,you need to guarantee "ROOM NITES"...and these need to be reasonable in number to allow the hotel to even talk to you,,,,Last year the rates were $125.00 per room and $215.00 per suite,,,,,I talked them down to $59,00 and $79.00 because of the room nites that I guaranteed,,,,,,
we could just wing it and stay at a motel 6,,,but the amenities will not be there, accommodations for meals, Corn Boil, etc, etc....might have to be scrapped,,,,,,
There are certain "FIXED" expenses,,,for instance the reservations with the parks department, and they require an insurance bond,,,,
So ???? the organizers, need to decide if they want a small affair, or a large one,,,look for accommodations to fit the need, and then go for it,,,
Last ATC, I had to do a rather nice affair because of the guests that we had,,,and Jackie and I went all out,,it was really like a small wedding, with the music, entertainment, decorations, open bar etc, etc.
Just depends on what the organizers want to do....
Could be small and casual, without amenities, and just a great fishing time,,or grand....but the bigger it gets, the more anglers are needed to keep the prices reasonable, and therefore the more swims !....
When you look at what the fees were per person last time around ( $60.00 bucks) and what they got... for example, all hidden charges like insurance, permits etc, were absorbed and then we had commemorative pins, give away pocket calendars ,Pizza, Wings, Soda, Tent rental(protection from the elements) coffee and pastries each morning, and a place to have the peg draws, that was protected from the elements,,score cards, flying monkeys, trophies, banquet,& meeting rooms , etc, etc,,,all of a sudden the 60 bucks becomes a great deal..
So whatever is decided,,,,that's what it will be,,,,,Jackie and I would just love to come to Austin, and finally get to fish one of these things !!
Yeah got to agree Neil you certainly put on a good show that I think will be difficult to match or even get close to.
Thanks again

It would be interesting to know if the event is going to run next year and is something going to be done about reducing the number on swims on Towne Lake? I have an alternative event that I will attend only if the ATC is not running - and I mean as an event that at least give everyone a better chance of actually catching some fish.
Keith
This is EXACTLY why I ask, I am pretty limited in my actual vacation time from work (My real job!!), and usually base it around the event in Texas, I also have another event in mind for next year, so would like to know if the ATC will run at all, in order to plan my schedule!
I heard some whispers, but that is all they may turn out to be.

maybe the magician made it disappear
He couldn't have graduated to doing tricks like that in such a small time frame............surely!!! :D

After Neils resounding successes with the tournament, is anybody going to try and continue to run this event?

Water, Bridge and Under come to mind mate!!

No, SGT Slaughter's carp was that Rainbow mirror that stuck around one log everyday, and people paid loads of money to drop fancy, modified rigs on it's head for glory....
Never drop it will you mate???
Considering it stuck around one log every day it didn't come out that often for a hand fed pig!!!

Thanks Karl...Nice!
Oh, Savay, the legendary water. One of these days I hope to get a glimpse of the lake, along with Redmire Pool. I would be very happy just to see these historic UK waters!
-Marius
Legendary Yeah!
I guess the guys had no idea how this game would pan out at the time.
I know this photo is of a stunning Savay carp in 1979.......A corking great big fish for those days!!! Taken by Mike Wilson.

Take a look at this ARTICLE by Iain Sorrel of Angling Solutions.
It really throws things into perspective regarding the early days of our sport.
Congratulations to SIMPLY CARP for yet another brilliantly informative article.
For those not in the know Savay is one of the UKs carp meccas.
Karl
Taters!!! and a very exciting sighting!!!

Par-boiled potatoes was once the hot bait for carp in Europe not so long ago. They accounted for a lot of carp in their day.
I know they were a firm favoUrite with Dick Walker (He's a famous English fisherman for the uninitiated)...........Good enough for him, good enough for anyone.
