  1. Ricky,  nothing is a waste of time providing that you are confident in your bait presentation...  :D

I'm sorry I'm going to need  "aqua view" proof that a pop up at 30 ft sit on the bottom... :D

    True,

I'll have a go in my tank and get something that I am confident in. My Carp guru is big on having confidence with one's rigs..

  2. OK, so we are getting to the crux of the question. Is making a neutral bouyancy bait a waste of time given that it will act differently on the lakebed than in a bottle of water or in the margins? I am trying to understand whether there is anything in the thought that presenting bait that is neither on the lakebed nor completely popped up is good for catching fish. It is supposed to give the bait a more 'natural' presentation. Sounded pants to me, but I was wondering what people thought.

  3. I normally do fish at 15 feet or less (depth). The pop-up length is going to depend on the bottom of the lake, right? I might make a rig with putty over a sliding knot that would allow me to change the length of the rig without having to re-make it. If I post some pictures of my popups in a glass of water or my fishtank, can you tell me whether I got it right or not?

  4. Hi Guys,

I'll post this in the beginning section. I have been reading and watching a bit about popups and a lot is said about slow-sinking popups (that I assume just sit on the bottom of the lake). Also, others popup a few inches.

Can those in the know tell me what I am looking for in a popup rig? Do I want it to be a slow-sinker and sit upright on the lakebed or do I want it actually popped up well above the lakebed. I understand that both might apply depending on what the bottom of the lake is. So, can anyone spend a bit of time educating me as to what popup I should use and when and is this balanced rig thing a pile of chit?

I'm new to this and I might have got my terms mixed here. For instance, is a balanced rig a popup?

  5. Great photo's all... and nice job to Gate for being the first Junior CAG member to 'pull one through the ice'. Incidently, I remember hearing from an ice-fisherman friend in Wisconsin that you can actually see the fish prior to it eating the bait. Is that true here too?

Regarding that crash. When you told me about it on the phone Scott I thought it was a smaller truck than that and that's why I started laughing. Seems from the photo it was no laughing matter. I see why you had to help pull the guy out of his truck. Had there been someone right next to the truck at the time (overtaking) then it would have been a much more serious event. Did the policeman look at you funny when you told him you were carp fishing by the bridge? "In this weather, it's less than 50F.." he would exclaim..

Anyhow, nice job. You are now 137 fish infront of me this year!

  6. Hi,

I want to close out my 2004 picture page and am sending a final request for 2004 pictures. On a recent trip to Wackerbaits I was aware that my picture site doesn't contain ALL of the best 2004 carp. So PLEASE send me some pictures of all your significant 2004 captures and I will add them to the page. I would like it to be as complete as possible. As I am looking for a job I can't do a 2005 page, but I would like to finish the 2004 one. It doesn't matter if it is 1lb or 40lb. If it is significant to you, it is significant to me.

    Best,

    RickyB

PS. E-mail me the pictures using the submission form on My Webpage please. NOTE that it will only do 300K photos. If you can't crop it then e-mail me at RickyB@richardbarnard.net and I will do it for you.
