  1. I've been on a roll lately banging one big mirror after another in both RI and MA. Last month I had the RI CAG mirror record, but forgot to bring my camera (dah!) and also did not have my scale. Just a few days ago I got a RI PB of 23 lbs. It was just 15 oz. shy of the RI CAG mirror record. Well, today the good luck continued. Landed a 24 lb. 4 oz mirror. Got it on the Blackstone River (where else). It hit a combination of maize (whiskey flavored) and sweet corn (pineapple and tutti-fruitti). This was fished ahead of an oatmeal based method ball And, yes, this time I had the camera, the scale and I even had two witnesses to the catch and the weigh in.

  2. The mulberries are just about ripe...give it another few days. If you know of a carp spot that has a mulberry tree near the shore, be on the lookout for some wild feeding action once the berries start dropping. Carp just love mulberries and can't get enough of them. Just freeline on a hook and get ready for some wild action. Mulberry trees are quite common here in RI and many places have them. They are usually white, purple or pink. The biggest mirror carp I have ever caught in RI was taken on a freelined mulberry!

  3. Louis, thanks so much for running this again this year.

And, thanks to the sponsors for supporting this contest.

And, WOW, some very impressive fish on the board this year. Some great catches in the Big 4 in 2011.

  4. I've been to many places in the last few days and the carp are spawning all over the place. This is right on schedule since Memorial Day weekend has been the spawning time in the past. Note that they generally don't hit while spawning. The spawn should continue for a few days. After that expect the action to be very good.

Want to see a video of carp spawning that I shot a few days ago......go to www.ricarpfishing.blogspot.com

  5. Hey Guys and Gals,

I'm looking for a spot to fish in the Blackstone river that is slow moving and deep and in Rhode Island-Any help would be appreciated-I've been in RI for a short time and I don't know too many good spots to hit.

    Thanks in advance,

    Chubby Ole Mike

  6. You are on the right track in the spots you are fishing.

We have a fish-in scheduled for Sat. at Roger Williams Park in Prov. Feel free to join us.....info under fish-ins Forum.

Consider joining the CAG group. We already have a CAG member from N. Attleboro who fishes with the RI CAG.

  7. Our spring fish-in will take place on Sat., April 30 at Roger Williams Park in Providence. It will be an afternoon/evening fish-in. It will start around 3-4 o’clock and run till dark or after dark for those who want to stay.

Here are the directions to where we will be fishing. Take the main entrance into the park off Elmwood Ave. (can access off Rt. 95). Go around and down the hill toward the main zoo parking lot. Go by the parking lot and up the hill. At this point you will enter a circle. Bear right at the circle and go by the Museum of Natural History. About a quarter of a mile from here you will see the Marconi monument on your right. Park along here. We will be fishing the area below. There is room here for at least 15-20 fishermen.

Corn works well in here and it will be prebaited with corn. Doughballs and boilies will also work.

RI CAG members, friends, and the general public is invited to join us for this event.

  9. I want to welcome two new members to our RI CAG group that have joined the CAG recently. Their names are Ron Marafioti and Jason Dichristofaro. I look forward to fishing with these guys and hope your experience in the RI CAG is a good one. Welcome aboard!
