  1. Thanks for the input. I'll check on the tax deduction on donations angle since it is for educational purposes.

If a Pro wanted to pay for his room(an expense we plan on paying for at this time) I suppose that would also be a donation?

Thought about the bidding process also. Maybe Day 1 random pick and 2nd night we let the anglers bid?

    Appreciate the input.

    Tom,

Just a wild guess, but I think you and Colin both would have the Pro part in the bag!

Glad to hear you would be willing to help out.

What I had in mind this event would pre-empt a Regional event in the future and be held on a Sat/Sun/Mon time frame. In a area not far from the following Regional Tournament being held. This should save on days off and travel expenses for both the Pro-Am participants.

  2. This winter Kath and I plan on putting an idea her husband Jon came up with into action. We've had the thought of a few things and with this we may be able to fit a few of the loose pieces together. Since it's new we wouldn't mind getting a response from the Anglers that would be participating, both on the Pro and Amatuer level.

First off we've been kicking in $500 ourselves to the Al K Scholarship fund.

    Al K scholarship info

We would like to find ways to increase that amount and offer more than 1 scholarship possibly. One way to do this may be to hold an event that all the proceeds go into that scholarship account?

The idea Jon had was to give new anglers the opportunity to partner up with a seasoned veteran to learn a few tricks(hopefully :yourock: ) in the process.

So here is a preliminary format we've kicked around.

All the Pros will have fished in the CARPTS events we have had in the past. We've developed a points system based on competitions entered and where they have placed at the end of the events. We had in mind to invite the top 10/20/30 to serve and volunteer their time as the Pro. We would cover expenses while participating. A way for us to reward those participating anglers also.

On the Amatuer level anglers could pair up and pay $400 for 2 anglers. Or remain as a individual and pay $350 to be paired up with a Pro.

It would be a 2 day event-

BBQ first evening a pairings for the Pro-Am also draw a spot and or pick where to fish.

    Day 1 fish for 8 hours 6am to 2pm

Have another social dinner at 7pm and draw for Day 2 pairings(different Pro)

    Day 2

    Fish again 6am to 2pm

Have an awards dinner for the most, biggest fish etc. where the Amatuers could win some donated tackle. ($ goes into the fund remember! )

This would be a very low key event and a good time for those that participated I beleive.

We've talked to a few communities that are interested in hosting this event that may not be able to hold a full blown tournament, but have some great carp angling in their backyard. They in turn would gain some exposure for their community of the carp angling resource.

Looking for some on topic feedback here to those willing to give it publicly. If not you can email Kath and/or I at CTS Email

  3. Had a few of our CARP Anglers ask about Hartford. Registration will start shortly after the NY Jr. event. (They use our leaderboard!)

Cash prizes will the same as last year($15K) with some tackle prizes thrown in.

We have more space available for year 2 and the areas that didn't produce last year(both sides of the boat ramp) won't be pegged this year.

Everyone in Hartford is getting excited about the event returning for year 2.

    Hope to see you there!

For more info visit the website www.carptournamentseries.com

As a side note we've already had over 60+ teams verbally commit for the CARP Angling World Championship being held on the St Lawrence in September 2011. We'll be taking team deposits end of this year or right after the first of the year. The ToC will be replaced in 2011 by the CAWC.

  4. I think I did pretty good!

    Louis,

Great event/idea! I know you put a lot of time in the design side and building out of the leader board which will benefit(fund raising) these kinds of events going forward for CAG.

Look forward to a fly fishing version, jr version, fall version, etc. We doing this event again in October?

  5. Thanks Andrew. It's always great to see and hang out with you and James. You're both top notch in my book.

It's always fun to make these road trips and it's always nice to get back home and see the family.

When is your story going up? Looking foward to "the nest" photos from the basement of the Red Mill Inn? :yourock: did you get half price on that room for the night?

  6. Dave's Quest for a few lumps/future tournament sites

Few pics on the CAWC announcement - Fishing with Ardy Veltkamp

Just wanted to post the links/pics for my 3 week adventure during May. I'll also add a brief description.

Started off with the MI event fishing with Tim Creque. Tim was a great partner to fish with and I'd fish with him in another event anytime. We had first choice and had the swim we wanted. Unfortuntely during the nights the floating debris made it impossible to fish. We were in 2nd at the half-way point( I think?) ended up 6th. Had a great time and look forward to going back to fish in better conditions.

After the event I headed to Detroit to fish with Kev(Mr. Fitzz) and try for a 30. Great place to fish, but never had anything over 20. Kev was on them day one and on day 2 it is was just the opposite. I think I had around 12 fish that day. Had a great time hanging with Kev will be back there also.

Decided to head to the other side of Lake Erie to Erie, PA. I've driven by this area a number of times on my way to the St L and always wanted to stop. Had a nice one there! Probably around 20?. Bill (Koi Master) just happened by.. Had a great time fishing with him for a few hours. He showed me a few of his tricks and the tackle he uses to catch all those koi in the wild. Impressive to say the least.

After that is was off fish one of the Finger Lakes. I've flown over them also on my to the St Lawrence and/or Baldwinsville when I fly in. Been a goal to fish these lakes also. I spent a great deal of time looking around. Louis had told me to give Ithaca, NY a try. On the last day when the weather was horrible I saw some fish and and hauled for once! I had 3-30's and a load of good 20's and teens. This is the type of situation that always keeps me looking for the new spots. When the fishing is this good on a place most likely never fished for carp before(seriously) it's really magical. I've added them on the Big 4, but I was so excited to be catching I totally forgot to take the pics with the logos! DUH.. :yourock: So they won't count but that's OK. I was happy to get 30+ lbs; 82, 83, & 84. Wonder if I'll hit 100-30's, before I get that 40?

After that I spent the next week in B'ville. It's been covered in another thread, but what a great town/people and place to be. The atmosphere there is always electric during this event. Thanks again to all the volunteers that help. This event is a nightmare to handle score wise(33,000lbs+ of fish!), but somehow they always seem to make it look easy.

After that it was a quick run up to Joe's Place (St Lawrence Experience) to announce the next Carp Angling World Championship(CAWC) to be held there in September 2011. Hanging with all the guys from Holland(Ardy, Marcel, John & Rolf) and enjoying the BBQ while fishing was fantastic. I'm not sure it gets any better than that! We also have a new carp angler from Massena in Kathy's huband Jon. He landed his first 20+ on the St L. That's always cool when you watch someone catch carp fever right in front of your eyes. Ardy was a great coach.

All I need to do now is find a way to make money while on the road. :o Life is good and I'm grateful to be able to enjoy carp angling in the USA this way as it continues to move through the pioneering stages.

On a fishing note I've been using a rig I call the triple option(pic attached) I can either use the fox swivel paste bomb(on a korda safety clip) for the method(#1) unclip the hooklink and go a bit further in range with a PVA stick(#2) or just put on a PVA nugget on the hook to go at range(#3). I was casting a lot to the areas I would see fish roll. If they rolled somewhere else I'd adjust and fish where they were.

Bait of the trip was a Dynamite Monster Tiger Nut with a Solar pineapple 10mm pop-up on the end. Korda size 6 wide Gape. Kryston Mantis/Snake Skin/Prologic coated hook links. Usually used a leadcore leader.

  7. Rod,

Thanks for the kind words about BCT and coming to the SC qualifier event. Rod handled the BBQ for me and did an awesome job.

Next year we'll be getting the word out sooner about qualifying for France in the WCC 2010.

Hominy is an extremely tough venue, but Madine isn't a picnic either. So this is a great test of not only fishing, but the mentality to handle that type of venue. One interesting thing is we have held 6 major type events on this lake over the last 5 years and 6 different pegs have won it. So even though it's tough it's also very fair.

So put in on the calender for mid April of 2010.

  8. Dave

Tim had me send my photo direct to you back in March, I think he done the same if unless he wants to keep using the picture when he was the Junior champ  , will you be loading or do we have to do this?

    Keith

    Hello Keith,

We have it set up now where anglers handle it all on their own. That was one of the reasons the roll out was delayed. It's an easy proces and lets the anglers add sponsors or change pics as they need to.

See you in a few weeks!

    David

  9. Just wanted to let anyone interested in attending and helping out as a Marshal we can cover food expenses and the room just like last year. If you want to see how some of the best catch fish at this event this is a good way to check it out and be right in the middle of the action. Just send us an email at info@carptournamentseries.com if you help out.

    Thanks!

    David
