  1. If you have iPhone try the Big Carp app. You can screen shot weather or add notes. When it's hectic you take a pic of the fish add weight. And whatever details you want. Takes about 5-10 seconds to save it all. Best app out there. It was made

    for carp fishing.

  2. I always use watercraft while fishing and am always trying to improve on it. While I enjoy to relax on the bank I don't go for that, I go to catch fish :) I'm not big into saying "Well, we'll catch em if we get lucky."

What pellets would you suggest? In all honesty, I've never used them or really looked into them. Why would you recommend them over say corn?

I use 3/4" 20% protein range cubes(for cattle) quite often this time of year. I'll drizzle oils(hemp, peanut, etc) or molasses on them. Pellets attract fish, but once they break down there isn't much for them to fill up on. In my PVA sticks I'll use pellets as well but betaine pellets or as last time CC Moore Live system pellets in my stick mix.

  3. Watercraft is more important than baiting this time of year the fish do tend to group up more which makes it easier to find them, in my opinion.

Couple of basic things I'd look for in areas to fish.

-Shallow areas with deeper areas close by - prespawn

-where the warmer water? Where's the warm wind blowing in to? I'd scout around checking water temps looking for fish

If you find them a lot of bait may be more detrimental than beneficial. I'd skew heavily towards pellets more than bait.

  4. If it's not electronic I won't even bother to read it. I don't use mail or read dead tree books. Last time I bought a stamp they were 19 cents. No idea what they are now but I bet a lot more. No home phone line for 15 years, cell phone and email and chat only. I haven't written a check for 12 years. I pay online or with cash or credit or I don't pay at all. I receive no bills via mail whatsoever. All are paperless online billing. And I'm not alone in this either. Change with the times or be left behind and become irrelevant. That's my 2 cents.

Maybe a poll from folks here on the forum on what they prefer would be prudent? If those here know someone wanting a paper version list their name or contact Bob with their name.

I think being force fed a paper version if you prefer electronic is just as bad as not making the non-tech folks happy.

It's not hard to be flexible and make both happy.

  5. Dave we go back and forth May I clarify. As I expressed previously. I know nothing of the doing and getting this type of thing together. I have been just a very sincere advocate that something different has to be done to keep our membership. Someone does get the NACA on line and someone puts it all together. CAG had this type of newsletter years ago. My constant argument is why not try something that seem to be liked in the past, that's it. I never said or had any thoughts on how to publish a newsletter. I wish I could off something than just a thought or idea. I'm a good chairman ( could be better) I did a good job for awhile as director of chairman until I saw there was more than just getting the chairman list enlarged, so I resigned. I'm good at momentum my computer skills hinders my enthusiasm. So Dave if your looking for me to say "hey I got a good idea but nothing to contribute" But I just thought that there are BOD members, sort of doing the things needed to get out a newsletter, already. But if your confuses as to my involvement I guess mine might be just the words. But I guess at times someone has to be the one to say" Hey it's dark in here can someone turn on the lights??)................................

    Ed,

I just assumed you had a team and/or personnel ready to get this going? My bad.

  6. Ed,

So let me get this right.

    Ed says-

Honestly I am just trying to promote it. As for any involvement in the getting it all together I have nothing to offer I have no experience or knowledge in getting together and getting it. Others as usual will have to stand up

You want to do a fairly large project (which is fine) but there isn't anyone to publish/edit, help organize it? What am I missing here?

    David

  7. Hey Ed,

Maybe I need to try and explain better my thought process.

Lets say there are 5 steps to this process

    1. Gather information / advertising etc

    2. Edit/organize

    3. Place the newsletter in an electronic format for the printer

    4. Take/send to print shop -you will edit again probably - Print

    5. Ship- Add labels etc at a NFP rate of shipping

Step 3 is where I was suggesting you work towards now because you go through that step to reach your final goal. This would give you a chance to get feedback as well from members before you spend $ printing.

Could you not be getting quotes because people/groups/organizations don't do print newsletters as much today?

Maybe I'm all wrong on how this works now because it's been 10+ years since was really involved, but I'm guessing its still close.

Once again Good Luck to those involved. Sorry if I offended anyone! :icon_smoking:

  8. Ed,

That's why i made a "Suggestion" I have been there and done that. I'm not arguing...Just sharing a bit of my experience.

You'll need a hard working team as well. Like the NACA to pull it off. Has I not had the great fortune of Stewart McKenzie, Jim Sugihara and a few others showing up I'd never been able to pull it off.

I applaud you guys for trying something. I'll also be interested to see what the results of doing it look like 1-2 years from now.

And again...Good Luck making it happen.

  9. Ed,

Read my post again. I said to get the ball rolling with the e-version. You have to do it in a format(Probably PDF or similar) to take it to a printer.

To clarify the 1000 membership in newsletter days(Remember Bud brought me on as Advertising Director) to improve on the NACA. We had 500 paying members and 500+ free "Media" members) We made a decsion when I became Pres to axe the non-paying members because the cost of 500 paying for 1000 was a drain. From there we grew back to closer 900 paying members. That's just when PDF/email was starting. I'll let the results speak for itself. As the NACA improve a direct correlation of paying members grew as well. We also were active in outdoor shows. fish-ins, started the ATC, CAGI. etc. and had a lot of momentum going for us from the base Bud Yancey built.

When did we go strictly e-version 2009/ 2010? So you're saying that's when the membership decline started Ed?

  10. Just a suggestion -

If you are 100% set on this quarterly newsletter why not get it started with a PDF version? You will run into some snags guaranteed and this will help you get the print version going sooner rather than later.

I'm of 2 opinions on this-

    1) As a CAG member Id prefer a e-version and let CAG keep the print costs and mailing costs- (Assuming there is a opt in/out option) Plus you can email it to a fishery agencies, media, database very easy and cost effectively.

    2) As a supporter of the "Worlds greatest Sportfish" and CAG, it would be nice to send something out to potential new CAG members in our tackle orders. I'd estimate right now less than 10% of our orders go to CAG members. IF CAG is to be the voice of Carp Angers and the Spokesperson of protection of Trophy Carp(Objective 3) it makes sense the membership numbers have to increase.

Good Luck to all those involved in getting this project up and running.

  11. Bill,

I'm sure a NACA article on USA boilie tactics would be appreciated from a very experienced angler like yourself.

I've also found fishing boilies I average bigger fish being caught, even though my catch rate slows, but that's fine with me. ;)

  12. We should have the website CarpTournamentSereies.com starting to be updated next month and start accepting registrations.

CT DEEP has spent a great deal of time working on a map of areas they suggest anglers fish with any restrictions. For example Boat ramp areas are open to fish 24/7, but technically "camping" is not allowed. So we're trying to find ways to work with them on that situation.

Great River Park in Hartford and Charter Oaks Landing will be open 24/7 and shelters will be allowed as well.

Also the rules will be be 3 rods per angler due to the fishing regulation changes.

Event will still be limited to 100 anglers.

More info to follow when time allows and we'll be updating the website with new info as well.

  13. Bob,

Kansas is a 2 rod state. I never fished there and Kansas is the best state in the country for bank anglers, in my opinion. Each county has a state run lake and most have 75% access fishing areas on 100 acre lakes is not unusual..

A few years back the started offering a 3rd rod permit for $5. I've spent $50(including the 3rd rod) every year since for a non-resident KS fishing license.

So maybe a way to get the 3rd rod is just pay a few $'s more? State gets needed funds and we get to upgrade. win-win
