  1. Had a good few days fishing a new found spot.

I've had 3 nice fish amongst plenty of smaller others, so the new spot is showing great potential.

We all have high hopes now of bigger fish to come here in NC.

All fish came on Banana flavored pack and a K-1 Banana Ice Cream wafter - thanks K-1 :yourock:

    Heres a low twenty

Great pictures! Superb Fish - I just got the message from Dennis..................

And I thought you weren't going to do any 'non tournament fishing' this year!!

Hope to see you 'there' soon

  2. Had a great weekend with Dennis and John, company, big fish, and a little learnt about a different kind of fishing....

    thanks Gentlemen!

Somewhat far away for a short weekend, so one day I plan to return for a longer crack at those awesome fish, hopefully better aware and prepared for what it takes to do it.

Now to see what the local fish do with K1 baits -- will be an interesting summer, maybe.

  3. My 'other fishing' is dependent on a few precious days each year when I am fortunately enough to go bonefishing with a great Bahamian guide. The area in question is not the famous Andros, but Ocean-side Abaco which holds vary large fish that are sometimes seen and occasionally get caught on fly.

Just after Xmas I had one of those days when the fish, after a tough start on a rising tide, decided to feed as the tide turned and fell. At about half tide down I connected with a fish on the back of a large flat which started to behave like other big bones I've connected with (sometimes landed) before.

After 45 minutes (8wt, 12 Lb tippet) this beast - my PB at 14 Lbs - came alongside, we took a couple of very quick shots, weighed it, carefully revived it and were relieved to see it swim steadily away.

One day I may be fortunate to hook a larger one (they are out there ..................).

In the meantime I am a very happy angler, though its 35 degrees back in NC and I can only dream of the next day on a flats boat or the next big carp that takes pity on me.

Just to give some perspective, this day I landed 8 fish, the second day I could barely get a bite -- lots of fish rushed up to the fly but would not take. That's fishing!

Do PM me if you have the bonefish bug and are interested in trying for really big Bahamian fish - I can point you towards a guide who won't shout at you when you mess up a cast B)

    best

  4. What a great thread. I love those 'Mirror tracking' picture sequences. You do have some cracking ones in the (very big) Potomac. I remember previously seeing a post of the big humpy fish with wild water behind the angler that Pat posted - made me want to fish up there....

  5. Thanks, Mark & Tommy plus all the rest of you in the DC team who organised and ran the event so well.

It was my first US tourament, my first chance to meet so many fine people (and to blank, of course...).

Well done Rick and all of you who caught on the day.

I enjoyed it all hugely and look forward to the next chance to fish with you all again.

  6. Well, I know I plan on attending, who else is hoping to come?

I've just registered, and am greatly looking forward to meeting you all. As well as seeing some of your fabled Potomac carp during the weekend, of course. Expect at least Dennis and I from NC - maybe you will see the real experts from western NC too (!) .. Best wishes to all and thanks for all the preparation and guidance so far.
