Very impressive! Can I ask, technically what gear he was using - I see he does saltwater so suspect he was using at least an 8Wt -- probably more?

Lovely looking mirror, that. Just spoke with Colin on #11, they are still hauling but the leader board seems to be somewhat behind the 'real' weigh-in rate. Long, long way to go, very close at the top, it seems.

10:30 p update shows Colin and Tom have been busy this evening - it looks as though it'll be a long night of hauling for thise who can keep it going. et' see what the morning brings!!

Lovely fish & great catch from the river, Mr Cook....

Congratulations to our local travelling angler team. Well deserved as usual.
I wish you a swim containing fish when you go back to WCC this year!

Nice report Whidd - I met your buddy Danny last week at Andy's, hope to see you guys on the river sometime. Keep hauling 'em out...

Had a great weekend with Dennis and John, company, big fish, and a little learnt about a different kind of fishing....
thanks Gentlemen!
Somewhat far away for a short weekend, so one day I plan to return for a longer crack at those awesome fish, hopefully better aware and prepared for what it takes to do it.
Now to see what the local fish do with K1 baits -- will be an interesting summer, maybe.

Lovely looking fish, Jerome. Things are still wet and waters muddy around here, we're getting impatient .....

My 'other fishing' is dependent on a few precious days each year when I am fortunately enough to go bonefishing with a great Bahamian guide. The area in question is not the famous Andros, but Ocean-side Abaco which holds vary large fish that are sometimes seen and occasionally get caught on fly.
Just after Xmas I had one of those days when the fish, after a tough start on a rising tide, decided to feed as the tide turned and fell. At about half tide down I connected with a fish on the back of a large flat which started to behave like other big bones I've connected with (sometimes landed) before.
After 45 minutes (8wt, 12 Lb tippet) this beast - my PB at 14 Lbs - came alongside, we took a couple of very quick shots, weighed it, carefully revived it and were relieved to see it swim steadily away.
One day I may be fortunate to hook a larger one (they are out there ..................).
In the meantime I am a very happy angler, though its 35 degrees back in NC and I can only dream of the next day on a flats boat or the next big carp that takes pity on me.
Just to give some perspective, this day I landed 8 fish, the second day I could barely get a bite -- lots of fish rushed up to the fly but would not take. That's fishing!
Do PM me if you have the bonefish bug and are interested in trying for really big Bahamian fish - I can point you towards a guide who won't shout at you when you mess up a cast
best

What a great thread. I love those 'Mirror tracking' picture sequences. You do have some cracking ones in the (very big) Potomac. I remember previously seeing a post of the big humpy fish with wild water behind the angler that Pat posted - made me want to fish up there....
-
Thanks, Mark & Tommy plus all the rest of you in the DC team who organised and ran the event so well.
It was my first US tourament, my first chance to meet so many fine people (and to blank, of course...).
Well done Rick and all of you who caught on the day.
I enjoyed it all hugely and look forward to the next chance to fish with you all again.

Jake - I liked the Vid (you've been hauling) - and the music sounded Ok, too(my stepson has educated me a bit).
Elmer, loved the plates on those mirrors.
-
Really nice vid. I love the contrasts betwen the fishing and the environment. Keep hauling. Louis - you know a 35+ is down there somwehere!

Well, I know I plan on attending, who else is hoping to come?
I've just registered, and am greatly looking forward to meeting you all. As well as seeing some of your fabled Potomac carp during the weekend, of course. Expect at least Dennis and I from NC - maybe you will see the real experts from western NC too (!) .. Best wishes to all and thanks for all the preparation and guidance so far.

i normally fish water with less than 6 inch water clarity. this lake has about 7 foot clarity. just a think i found amazing a lake about 1 hour away has 28 foot water clarity!!!!!!!!!! ITS SO CLEAR YOU CAN SEE THE BOTTOM OVER 100 FEET OUT FROM SHORE!
Heck, Jake - That IS clear water. Keep 'em coming!
-
Fantastic fish on a fly. I can't catch a carp of any size on fly down here, though I've tried (a lot). Perhaps the water's a bit clearer up there? Well done!
-
Nice day's fishing, nice write up. Keep 'em coming!

Excellent - I can wind up my mate in Kent now... well done the K1
-
Very nice fishing -- as expected of you, Scott!
These fish look very healthy, which is extremely encouraging for the future.
-
Jake,
Just saw this.
Pleased you and yours are doing OK.
Good luck when you get back on the bank - those fish will be waiting for you!
-
