  1. here's my thought....I think its great what the TPWD is trying to do for carp fishing in texas.

there have been a ton of people that have caught PB's out of town many of those 40's have been repeat captures....if I were "lucky" enough for lack of a better term to catch a state record size fish during the ATC it would be released as quickly as possible...so that someone else might get a chance at it in the futare...there are plenty of other venues in texas were the texas parks and wildlife conducts fish surveys by "shocking" them up lake texoma comes to mind if they would like a large fish this would probably be a better place to get it. rather then take it from a venue that has produced so many memorys for so many people...and is venue for one of the largest tourneys our club holds every year....

Scott as far as comparing taking a carp to the share a lunker program.....I don't think they are going to start a breeding and stocking program for carp in texas anytime soon.....and don't those fish get released??

If having BIG fish on display was what it took to make them more popular for anglers then everyone in texas would be fishing for aligator gar...trust me they show well :D

I am not against placing fish on display....I just don't know if taking a 40lb state record class fish from town is the way to go....I know splash the 121lb world record blue catfish had a huge impact on the Athens fish hatchery with 1000's of people going to see it.....I also know that it died after being in captivity for 18 months or so.

  2. If you pack up and leave SRV then you are doing the swim an injustice. There are lots of fish to be caught from this swim if you know what to do. There is a deep hole close in and shallower water down and across, giving access to area that fish will feed in, during a variety of conditions. Can be hard to catch them here, but with work it is very satisfying to pull out 3 or 4 thirties and 5 or 6 20's during the day.

Dogs, walkers, rocks, boats etc are a pain but the fish are used to it - it spooks the angler more than the fish. Drop some back leads in close and all can be avoided.

I have done well on a float rod along this bank

  3. I was going over different ideas for ATC and realized I still havent decided on what line to run. I mainly run mono up here usually big game. I was thinking of running 65lb Power Pro braided at ATC. With three reels to spool up that will be pricey to say the least, what does everyone think?

12lb suffix is all I ever use down there.....

  4. I think pineapple has only been caught 2 times....

but "Mug" has been caught something like 6 times.....I have a photo of it at home I will post up, and there is one of richard with it as part of a brace..he was the first to have it...and I have a picture of Timmy with it somewere I think....and I took a photo of moses with it and its floating around...

yeah you got a shot a mirra...but its a slim one..

  5. Jerome - the only one in question would be biggest buffalo as sometime none are caught.

Zach - I suggest donating it to a Kids Event in TX if no one wins.

probably take out a ad in the local paper premoting the lone star carp brigade :D:D

  6. Makes me think. We found a cool way to recycle the pot money in this past occasion, but "side pot" organizers may want to think to some predefined rule on how to use the money if nobody can claim it. Don't know, a donation to CAG, for example... Or a donation for Zach's new car... Up to you! :D:D:D

(I'm serious actually. When it comes to money, better define such rules in advance!).

this year if no one wins it I keep it....4 years I have had to tote around $4K and stress about it....bout time I saw some sort of pay-off....

one things for sure, if you put it in don't plan on getting it back...that is unless you won it....then I hand it over in a folded up envolpe :D

  7. :D

    Zach,

So it will be fun for others at the ATC you should have a catagory "closest to Phone's big fish pot" (both buff and carp)

    Phone

How much will you be skimming this year to fund your run for Pres.??........

no need to skim phone I am in the pocket of big buisness thought that was obvious

  8. Is that per team or per person.

that is per person, your team mate dose not have to enter for you to win the big fish side pots....I will go back and edit but the other is for team total weight...so that is 10 each....or $20 for the team...

  9. the CAG can not reward money for their events as there are 501C...google it....

BUT...that hasn't stop me from running side pots every year.. :D (such a renagade)

so here are the non-sanctioned side pots...for this year...

    BIG buffalo 10$

    BIG carp $20

Team Total weight $20...that's for your team not each :D

total of $50 to get into each pot...........trust me its worth it........ :D

just a little FYI for those new guys that might be heading to the ATC this year! :D

  10. And here is one I have rarely shown anyone. I think the year is 1986, and some pretty nice bucketmouths in front of the bait store I worked at. That was before I discovered that walleyes taste much better!! :D:D Once again, you have to love the hair, and this time the stache too!!! :D:D:D:D

HOLY S*** your my new hero!!! thats awesome!

not a carp but my first fish ever I think it was a small bass....caught in MN at our summer cottage....you have to love my moms handwriting I had to scan both sides:)

  11. I'll bet they didn't come zipping around on top of your spot anymore!!! :D:D:D Nicely done!

yeah we were yelling at them....it was totally unintentional....you joke around about doing things like this but I would never really want to hurt some one...at least I wouldn't want to hurt them that badly :D ..... they had cut me and Richard Summerville off a couple of times that day....this guys legs were a total mess got alot of blood in that boat as well :D

  12. this is one of those funny now storys.....at the time not so much....

myself and couple of others were fishing a bend at lake austin and this dude kept coming around the corner with in 15'-20' feet of the bank they are breaking the law if they come with in 100' anywho we kept yelling at him that we had lines out and what not they didnt listen I think we got the bird once or twice.....I had spooled up one of my rods all the way with suffex's new braid to try it out....I wound up and cast about 100 yards out to hit this deep hole that I had marked well no sooner had I done this that idiot came flying around the corner and the boat some how passed right over my line but the wake boarder he was pulling caught it came right up over the top of his board and sliced both legs open to the bone like a cheese cutter......blood and screaming..it was nasty

  13. I was taking my girl friend to fort sam houston today and we stopped at the cabela's in Buda TX to check up on the fish that were placed in the tank at the closing of the TCC the largest fish in the tank was a buff caught by Ladislav I belive it was 57lbs. I took several photos that I will post later we were only there for about 30 minutes but this fish was the star of the tank by far the largest fish in there....I watched as kids would run up to the tank and slap there hands against it "Lad" as they call the fish there would come right up to the glass and pose for photos and as people would walk by it would follow them along the glass. in my limited time there I had a chance to share a bit about carp angling and to tell the story of this massive fish to several people.....Thank You Ladislav!
