  1. OK Phone, I had to dig into some old school books and memory banks so here it goes. I'm a registered sonographer that went through 6 biologies to get here. My expertise is liver and kidney transplants. The liver is where this happens. Every movement by a creature(warm or cold blooded) requires an expenditure of energy. The conversion or reduction of adenosine triphosphate to adenosine diphosphate releases 30.6 kilojoules/molecule of energy. This is done in the mitochondria. This is called the Kreb's Cycle. This is the minimum to keep a heart beating. Without the introduction of H2O(water) and carbon based food products to return the diphosphate back to a triphosphate, the being has a limited amount of resource(fat) to continue that heart beating. Anymore movement requires more energy and depletion of resources. Living in moving water(fish in a river like we fish for in Chicago), requires a great amount energy just to be static. Without re-plenishment, the being will cease to exist. Not my rules, the ones I was required to learn. So regardless of the temp, a being needs to eat or doesn't continue to be. Lake Michigan has a water temp currently at 35 degress(our side), the water we fish comes directly from it. We've gotten temps as low as 40 degress while we've fished in past and STILL caught many fish of varying sizes. later

  2. We've been discussing how to divide up Illinois and having trouble. Army corps of engineers really through a kink in our FFF. Maybe you all would be interested. Doesn't have to be for more than braggin' rights. Let's hear from your side.

  3. Hey Mr. Romania, Tracy here. There are places locally that many FFFer's put lines in. If you want, I can come up to your swim and help. Missed last year(had to work). I'm on-call til' 7am 1/1/10 but can be there at 7:01 LOL!!!! later

  4. Thanks Tony for sharing what goes on in your head. It certainly makes it easier to understand the outcome. Well Done!!! Chicagoland would like to send a BIG Thanks Mr. Donlon and all the Hoosier carper helpers that makes this outstanding series event possible. :yourock::o Tracy later

  5. I add salt to the boiling water for my corn. It ups the boiling point some so the hulls come loser sooner. I sometimes add a sweetener while it's cooling. The sweetener coats the corn and takes longer to ferment. Fermenting slightly(I've found) seems to bring carp in better when using as chum. Lastly, The dislike of the corn smell is just the tip of the ice berg! pink shirts and carring her purse are next! LOL  Run while you can!!!!!!!!!!!!! later

  6. Hello, Tracy here. Match the situation. Small fish = small gear. Try a small hook(8/10), shorten hair to 4/6", and smaller weight(1/4 oz. egg). The gear their seeing may intimidate them because of the size. You'd be leary of picking up a free burger if there was a bowling-ball size piece of lead sitting next to it. see what I mean. might help. later

  7. Hello Tracy here. Congrats to Louis and all the winners! Aside from a glitch here and there, I got up every morning needing to see the leaderboard. (I'm pretty sad aren't I) Had lots of fun and saw an amazing amount of carpers trying to put Chicago back on the map. We gave it a run. Can't wait for next year. later

  8. Hello fellow carpers, Tracy here. Spent the weekend out on the canal here in Chicago. Caught fish but nothing of picture taking quality. My best was 20-4 friday. Did see a few few not entered carpers catch up to 25 from the canal. Water is still 57 degrees. Just a few more degrees and the camera will be smokin'. Good luck to all. later

  9. Hello fellow carpers, Tracy here. The format you speak of is how I will be running the Windy City Carp League 2009. 5 venues over 5 months, Top 3 fish of each venue count towards total weight(15 fish) giving you the league champion. Sam's Midwest Carp Anglers Assoc. winter league was run very similarly to this and went off fine. I think it will work. MCAA winter league required a witness, but that's because fishing around Chicago in the winter can be dangerous, so a partner was pretty much needed. MCAA did charge a fee(20$) and went from Jan. 1 til Mar 1. I would like to see measurements if no witnesses are going to be used. a 30lb claim shoudn't be under 24"x24",a form of checks and balances. just my 2 cents later

  10. Hello Tracy here. A friend let me use his carp rod for a session and I also used a 13ft feeder rod along side. I now own 5 feeder rods. Because I started fishing carp with a matchfishing long pole(13m) before I started with rod/reel, I prefer the fight MUCH better with the feeder. I understand you have better control of casting larger feeders and such with the heavier carp rod, but I prefer to use smaller terminal gear and don't need the heavier rod to cast. I'm a braid person and carp rods (in my opinion) don't like braid. I own a Fox Euro-Warrior(12ft 2.75tc) but still prefer the Avalanche feeder rod from Wacker. Doesn't mean I don't use my Warrior, just under specific conditions. Just my 2cents

  11. Hello Zach, Tracy here in Chicago. Most of the info given here is right on. I've been fishing the north branch of the Chicago River for many years now and have done well in the winter. To Alan, I also match fish and have done so with several euro fishers from several different countries and have come to the conclusion that the American fish aren't as conditioned as your Euro fish. So most ways of fishing don't need to be as complicated as across the pond. Smaller equipment(hooks, hooklinks, feeders), I have noticed has increased my catch rate. Also about the temperatures, 3 weeks ago, a few friends and I caught 140lbs. in a 5 hour session that started at 7 degrees (farenheit) and a wind child of 25 below zero. The fish will always be there but will you? later

  12. That all sounds like fun! I'm an ever trying matchfisherman and you should try a 21lber. on a 13meter(42ft) carbon pole, 6FT leader made in 2 sections(main/hooklink) 4lb main, 2lb hooklink and a 1gram float. There's 5.5ft of elastic(rubberband)in the top section that replaces the reel. YES, no reel! HOLD-ON AND PRAY!!! also my PB of 29-6 was caught last spring /summer on an 18 ft tightliner rod with 8lb powerpro and a 3gram float. Yahoo! What a time!!! later
