Cip,
No offense, but have you ever went to a bow fishing weigh in? Just sat back and took notes? I doubt you have, most haven't.
Let me break it down for for you...
90 percent of fish are under 10 pounds. They do us a service. I know it's not the same everywhere, but on mac, they help, they really do. The real big time ones get smart to the lights and stay far away.
I know the though to some is asinine, but bow fishing is not going away, might as well at least play nice with them, they are a great info resource.
-
Brian,
I really do believe bow fishing helps the overall population of places like Mac.
-
Does anyone have any idea when they will be coming into town for the event?

Guys,
I have invited Michigan out of doors to do a segment on the event.
I invited them to fish with my gear in my peg as well, I wanted to ensure everyone was ok with this?
I was thinking this would be a good promo on carp fishing here in michigan

Well he needs to contact me by Friday.

Guys, Awsome work!!
Although carp are seen by the Michigan DNR as a rough fish, they have been more than willing to answer questions I have had in the past in regards to "rules" ect.

No I will not Brian,
This will be a come as you are type event, I would hope in the best interest of the event if someone can not make it they would give plenty of prior notice.
-
Bob... the sport trailer would be amazing for not having to drive a full size truck around....
-
Tony,
Thank you for the honest feedback. I believe your right however in the fact that without much cover they are going to stay in deeper water.
I am hopping others would share their success or failures in margin fishing as well.

Rumor has it the DUTCH DESTROYER just put in for vacation....
Who wants to bait my rods and cast them so I can catch a fish out of SAGNASTY?

Margin fishing
Ok guys.. Let’s step outside of our comfort zones and have an open discussion about fishing margins on LARGE waters. I have been fishing the swim posted below for a few years with Rich here in Holland. The swim for all terms and conditions is ALMOST featureless. There is the dock to the north and a solid sand bottom across the entire swim. The 7’ trough runs almost the length of the area that I am fishing a there are some random chunks of old concrete in a small area of the swim which are marked with the circle.
The water depth can vary a bit as to the north there is a small creek that fills another bay and being connected to such a large lake the wind does push water in and out of bays. That being said you could add a foot of water to any of the spots depending on the weather and the water level of the lake.
As many of you know I am bait and wait type fisherman, I am writing an article to discuss this tactic currently that will be released in the spring of 2015. I would however like to put into the context of this article that I chum with nothing shy of 20 pounds of particles multiple times per week prior to a session if possible. This chumming covers the entire swim with no area being more or less covered than the rest.
While fishing this swim over the past few years, I have tried multiple times to fish the margins, both above and below the swim, I have placed rods in the margins during all times of the day and left them there for the entire session, with minimal results compared to the other four rods. Which are fished at range near or around the drop off. I know the fish have been moving in and feeding at some point, because I walk the bank and check to see if they have cleaned up the freebees put out. You even at times see the fish swimming near shore, but not spawning.
I have watched many of videos speaking of fish in the margins, but have not found the magic in this area.
Is this a EURO thing that is produced by the closed water heavy pressure fishing that happens there?
I completely understand that we have all free lined bread to carp showing themselves in small waters or at bird feeding areas, but on waters with millions of fish do their habits change?
-
Something like that Cip.
I grew up 10 minutes from this town.
I have an entire book of swims for the area, Sadly I could never fish them all in the course of a year even if I tried.
-
Why do you say that Kip?
Brian, the one that is downtown is water street.. .there are only 2 streets that are parallel to the water.
Here is the link...

The #'s I am going by are the bubble numbers not the swim numbers. The count got off some how.
#1 shultz park boat ramp...
Shallow on the west side and drops off into 2 channels. One by the boat ramp and one a bit farther out. 3-5 FOW in most places.
#2 Douglas Park
Very shallow 2-3 foot deep across most of the swim. Small drop off to the left of the kayak dock. Catches best early AM's in may.
#3 Blue Star bridge...
Big water with decent current Alot of options to fish here with 2 channels up to 15 FOW. A bit snaggy. I do not fish here alot for carp as it gets a decent amount of pressure from catfish guys.
#4 The dock
5-11 FOW in front of the swim on the main river... Sand bottom.... Never fished it for carp.. Suckers get pounded from here early spring.
#5 in town dock (You can generally walk down below the dock and fish as well, the drop off is gradual so you can wade out to cast if that is your thing)
This swim is much like #4. Almost all sand out front and the same depth.
#6 downtown park
This swim is the biggest risk with the biggest reward. I cut my teeth fishing this park as a kid with bread. People feed the ducks with corn and bread here and you will see surface feeding carp alot in the morning. There are some snags and lots of boat traffic mid day. It is very hard to find a spot to park unless you get here EARLY in the morning.
#7 I know very little about this swim... it was a parking lot up until a few years ago... Looks pretty and has a shelter...

I have reduced the number of entries this year Brian to try and open up some more choices in case of "cold pegs" If the water warms normally this year I do not feel it will be an issue.
I will post the Saugatuck swims in another thread for you guys.

Peg 20.... is a good peg, there is a shallow shelf and then it drops off with some old broken concrete about 50-60 yards out.
Jen and I have fished that spot in the past and caught fish out of it. If there is a west wind, that spot can be very good as the fish will sit next to the shelf and put the feed bag on.
Catching catfish in Holland is 90% bait based. Anything fruity/high in sugar content or high in fishmeal will draw the cats in like mad...
Here is Holland 101
Water semi cold (Flavors)
Red peach
Cinnamon
Pineapple superior
As the water warms
VBN
Tutti Fruity
Pineapple snap (The ANTI catfish bait)
Scopex can have its place, but it seems to catch a mix of cats as well.
If you are going to fish boilies, they need to be corn flavored and not bright colors.
This is all just from personal experience and soul my opinion. btw...

Can you mark it on a map Brian, and I can answer that for you.
