  1. Many of the pictures submitted have shown the common carp’s ability to survive, to overcome disabilities, to heal old wounds, and to live through injuries.

From beautiful mutants to the grossly damaged, all these carp where caught feeding! :swimminfish:

It is no surprise that the carp has been around for millions of years, admired and depicted in works of art through the ages.

Carp are the most adaptable fresh water fish known.

They not only survive adverse conditions but also adapt to extreme environments, which in some waters include learning to avoid capture.

Although some of these submissions are truly gross; it is their strength, toughness, and adaptability that I see in these pictures, and it is exactly that, which makes them a worthy sports fish! :carprock:

Pictures for this contest may be submitted through Feb 21st, Keep Them Coming! :)

  2. Whoaa folks!

I deleted a couple of the posts because I don't want this thread headed in the wrong direction! I would like to keep this as a celebration of their toughness not only as great fighters but as great adapters.

This thread is intended to demonstrate the toughness of the carp. We have all caught carp in some of the most polluted waters where other fish cannot thrive. We have taken pictures of deformed carp because it is at times unbelievable that although damaged, they can still survive. A part of the carps bad reputation is that they exist where other fish can't. This should be celebrated and not seen as disadvantage. This is by far the toughest fish I know of!!! :carprock:

A lot of good entries, Keep them pictures coming.

  3. The Odd the Sad and the Ugly

    Contest

It is said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I find this particular saying most appropriate in the world of carp fishing. :carprock:

No other fish in the history of mankind has been depicted in art as much as our beloved carp. But let’s face it, there are some odd, sad, and ugly looking Cyprinoids that grace our nets on occasion; so odd looking, or in such sad shape, or so plain ole ugly that we just had to take a picture of it.

This contest is not a celebration of the bizarre; it is an acknowledgement of the resilience of our beloved Cyprinus Carpio, a true survivor!

So this month’s (February 2012) contest will be for a picture and description of that odd, sad or ugly carp you or your friend has caught. :swimminfish:

Entries will be accepted through Tuesday, Februrary 21th, followed by one week of voting.

The winner will be announced on February 29th and showered with gifts from the CAG store.

The top three finishers will receive a CAG iron on patch, a CAG tape measure and CAG mouse pad. The 1st place finisher will also receive a CAG T-Shirt of his choice.

On your mark- Get set- Go! Good luck to you all!

  4. Despite single digit windchills in the midwest today, some nice fish (and that's an understatement) have been submitted! Well done, gentlemen!

Munenori Kajiwara took the lead in the Big Fish division with a fabulously fat 26-8. Congrats, Munenori! :yourock:

    Congratulations Muenori! Great catch! :yourock:

Last Friday the river seem less warm water and only two fish. 14 and 18 lbss. Last Monday is weird that the river get so low almost 2 feet dolwn. Fishing slow and one fish 18lbs then yesterday the river raise high. I felt the water is cold so It must be from gate open far north that cold Lake Michigan water into the river. My spot is almost in water so I move up little higher. Only two fish 12 and 18lbs.

Right place is great but you have to be there at right time for big fish! I looked at all my notes in the past that I noticed that if you see steam on river's surface and minnows swim around your fish net .....BIG FISH TIME! Of course can happen to catch big fish anytime but I mean prime or peak time! On January 26th is good day! 25lbs 11oz and 24lbs 1 oz plus lost bigger fish that sent into snagging area that no way for me to get that fish out of the snag. I used BIG bait! average is 2 or 3 fish per day for me, When I see little run or big bite so I ingore it. Average size try to eat my bait but its too big for them so bigger fish take it! I dont want to catch many carp that bigger fish might feel something is not right then leave or refuse to take my bait! Smallest carp is 9lbs 2oz is my first carp for 2012. I used sweetcorn to catch any carp as fast as I can and get first carp as early as I can.

    Jamuary 2012 .....

    35 carp

    5 carp over 20's lbs

    11 carp over 17lbs up to 25lbs 11oz

Thanks to my friends Todd Carlander and Rob Weber from Ohio! They force me to fish harder! Thanks to my wife Pamela to let me fish often and allow me to cook a lot of bait in garage! Thanks to Frank Rink for great winter contest!

Thanks to Kevin Maddock! His Carp Fever book said set up your goal and DO IT! So I did!

What I do with money that I won? I am going to pay my wife a new CAG member! :)

I am going to relax now and I am going to experiment with my rigs, baits, etc. to catch monster carp!

Good luck to everyone for this Febuary! :swimminfish: :swimminfish: :swimminfish: :swimminfish:

Way to go John. No luck involved here, you put together a good plan.

Interesting that many tournament fishermen just want to catch fish no matter the size, but this tournament allows for targeting the big ones!

    Hello

I thought a CAG membership was a family memberships.

    Yes! Paul is right!

John, a members membership includes the spouse. :)

  5. Mario's article offers some excellent insight and advice if you go 100% boilie.

I've also done well over the years with boilies popped-up over a bed of maize.

I would not worry too much about the carp getting over fed but once the fish are feeding confidently I do like to gradually minimize the amount of maize going in to make the fish feed more competitively on the boilies.
