Thanks Frank. I haven't been able to make any of the Joliet sessions on account of back problems but no doubt we will be seeing you at the Chicago River some time soon. Do call so we can hook upsmile.gif

    Very nice. :toot::thewave::toot:

Thanks much Bill. I really enjoyed your FFF write up on Fulton, NY. Getting together with friends, fishing and welcoming the New Year was awesome!

Awesome start of the year !!! :)

Thanks Teo, I know we will be seeing you soonsmile.gif

NICE! Catch fish on New Year Day is great day! :)

Thanks John. I am still looking forward to meeting you.

No, didn't get out on Sunday but did check out a few spots on the River on Saturday. Despite it being a beautiful, warm sunny morning, I only found 2 carpers. They were at one of the very well known secret spots and only had two small fish.

Other than Tracy, I didn't see anyone else on Sunday. I did helped him land a 21Lber though.

Your sore arm must have been a factor in you not coming out because we have fished the FFF together in much nastier weatherlaugh.gif Get Well Soon!!

  4. There are antiseptics sold by carp fishing vendors that are to be applied to the hook damage in the mouth of the fish, but I don't know if any would help for torn scales.

I can only speak as an avid aquarium hobbiest...

Many aquarium keepers add one tablespoon of aquarium salt per five gallons of water. This is suppose to replace minerals in the water and promote the protective slime coat on the fish.

A good medication for fish with open wounds is API's Melafix.

BUT, I would just keep an eye on it, it may be alright if left alone. Just treat any developments with the appropriate medications. Here is a good site for aquarium fish maladies: http://www.fishyportal.com/

You may also want to keep an eye on which fish is becoming aggressive/territorial. They may either be outgrowing the tank or preparing to spawn.

There are also many koi keeper forums out there that may be more helpful.

    Good luck!

  5. Nice fish guys.Congrats!!!Good start in 2012!!!

Thanks Chrupek and a good year to you too!

Thats awesome guys WTG! Looks like you guys had a good time.

Good time had by all Tony!

Hey Jerome, you should have a prize for non-fishing wives who show up in nasty weather like this.

    NICe going!

Good idea for a new category Paul! I know my wife would never be in the runninglaugh.gif

BTW, we were looking forward to seeing you that morning. Did you ever make it out?

    Great report!

    Thank you much Captain!

Now there's some die hard carpers. WTG guys

Thanks Mark. Gotta be much more challenging and colder in Canada!

    Fantastic report Dan !!!!

Good job and good to see more people doing Carp Fishing

    Thanks much Fisherman Sudit!

  6. A few of us got together to bring in the New Year at our local Chicago River swim. Water temperature 46 degrees.

Although there were lots of winds, we were fairly protected and have experienced a lot worse weather. Three of us caught a total of nine carp and one catfish.

The fish ranged in size from 8Lbs 8oz to 22Lbs 4oz. Surprisingly, this "over fished swim" gave up a total of three twenty+'s on New Years day and gave us more to celebrate!smile.gif

A few more fish were caught and a good time had by all. But the icing on the cake was this 22Lb 4oz Dan was fortunate to catch!

We are lucky to have open water year round and many swims to choose from in Chicago.

Thank you Jerome for running the FFF and encouraging us all to get out in the cold of winter and fish!

Best wishes to all of you in the New Yearband.gif
