  1. 10:45 at the MIlwaukee venue is seeing rain/downpours! Participant are already soaked, real tough fishing conditions.

Three fish have been caught so far, and not from the end pegs!

Frank on peg two has a 9# and 14#.

Luckaz on peg three has a 10#

Looks like the luck of the draw factor will not play it's hand today.

    May the better fishermen prevail!

  2. Nice report, Dan, but it's far from over. You and Mike each picked up two points in your session #5 and my history shows I can do the same or worse in my session #5 (for example, I blanked at Joliet this weekend.). I still think 23-25 points will win this league, and that means that 10 anglers still have the potential to reach those numbers. That's the beauty of the point system. Marcin may be right that the baiting done by a local angler at peg 5 last year has worn off, and it has made peg 5 no longer automatic. I'd still take peg 1 or 5 if I had my choice, but the other pegs are also producing. We can only show up and do our best. I'd still like to see a peg rotation in the future, but it's been fun. Kudos to Ernest and Magdalena for an enjoyable league.--Frank

    Frank,

The tournament results show that Peg 1 has beat Peg 5 twelve out of sixteen times, so I would suggest you opt for peg 1

At this venue, the wind direction and water temperature has dictated the better end peg (not the bait) and the probability of drawing that end peg increases when an angler doesn't show up; this has been the case for your group the last three events securing your end peg positions. ;)

The target is now on your back, and rumor has it that your group's missing fifth angler is being encouraged to fish again.

Still, I really hope you are successful in your upcoming peg draw and I wish you well.

    Dan

  3. Thanks Frank,

Was a good day for all of us, little bit cold in the morning, and better at noon and afternoon, warm enough when I was fighting with fish :)

I am glad I made some other anglers from other groups happy, I had many calls during session yesterday with congratulations ;)

I am glad my winning yesterday made things more interesting in the standing of the league, that was my target before yesterday fishing, just mess up situation of the anglers from top of leaderboard and will not give up to the end :)

...and of course I hoped to catch bigger carp than your big fish :(, my 22 mm pop-up did not work at all yesterday, but I still have one more chance to beat your fish Frank :)

    thanks again

Intentions noted Paul. Congratulations on drawing peg 1 and a successful day of fishing!

I will remind you that you have not always drawn bad pegs, you also drew peg 1 on November 11th our first day of the tournament, but did not fare so well.

Nonetheless, it is good to see you happy. :)

  4. Four of the five members of group B drew for pegs at 6am amid a chilly morning and good Colombian music playing from Dan Ramir’s van. (It was the second consecutive week that Larry Kirchner could not attend) By 6:10am the cell phones were ringing and text messages were being received, “what peg did Dan draw?”

The current standings had Frank Rink (from group D) and Dan Ramir as the only two participants who could accumulate 25 points and secure a sure first place finish in this year’s Winter Carp League. An end peg has won every leg of this tournament so when Dan drew peg 5 (an end peg) it seemed that the inevitable was about to happen, but this was not to be.

Paul Sanders drew peg 1 and not only caught the most fish for the day (10) but also the largest at 21lbs 13oz. Marcin scored four points for the day on peg three, landing five fish including an 18lb 8oz pig. Tomasz on peg four caught four fish, also landing an 18lber. The expected haul fest on peg five never materialized, Dan caught three fish the largest 12lb 8oz; the action on peg five stopped at 10:50am.

So now the opportunity to clinch first place in this Winter Carp League goes to Frank Rink who currently has the largest fish of the tournament, a 34lb 12oz monster. I wish Frank well and hope he claims a deserved victory.

As for me, I guess I will always remember today as a missed opportunity, the perpetual missed putt, or missed free throw… but on the bright side, I think I made a lot of people happy. :)

    Dan

Na only kidn we would be more than glad to have ya all come and praticipate and support something like this. Its always a pleasure to go head to head with such a talented group of anglers.

  :) ...just keep us off the end pegs ;)

I hope you will consider joining us in September for the Chicago Carp Classic!

Besides the tournament, we are planning some fish-ins and socializing events.

  10. Slimy,

Thanks for the info. I plan on taking a weekend off of chasing salmon to attend this event as it is only 2.5 hours from my house. The thought has crossed my mind to drag the salmon boat with me or we can just go chase some a day or 2 early;) *hint hint*

Are net extentions needed at any of the venues?

    Hi Dave,

The water surface may be about 4-5 feet below your feet so I would say that a 10 foot net would be way comfortable!

hmmm... I've got to get out more this year! But wind is a major deciding factor on taking my 18' boat out on that big lake. Usually light SW winds make for a beautiful day but not knowing what the winds will be till about a day or two before, makes long distance planning tentative at best.

The week of the CCC will be a busy one. You may want to leave that boat at home for now, because anyone coming a day or two early will be treated to some fun fish-ins at some of the areas great locations. :)

  11. I thought my should start Chicago Carp Classic profile on Facebook.

This is the best way to spread the world about event, city, great way to promote it and our great sponsors.

Few thousand of people viewed our profile of Midwest Winter Carp League on facebook in one week !!!

    just my thought

    Best Regards

    Paul

    Good idea Paul! :yourock:

  12. Hmmmm

I am not familar with how the Chicago Salmon run works, but on our side of lake michigan it happens the first 2 weeks of September. Are we going to be fighting with the salmon guys on these areas?

Also how do these venues fish after a prolonged West wind, meaning the big lake will flip and hold cold water near shore in chicago?

Hi Dave, Good point, thanks for asking.

There will be nocompetition with the "salmon guys" because the venue areas will only be for CCC participants that weekend. :) The park district is on-board with us!

Last September, we tested the venue with a local fishin. With only one day of chumming, everyone caught carp and many were large ones. This pattern continued into the following week.

The shore line has been rebuilt in the venue areas and limestone boulders have been placed in the water near the shore and out about 50 feet to attract and hold fish. There are not many features our side of the lake, a mostly flat sand bottom, so the carp tend to run the shore line.

Of course we cannot control the weather, and that could be said of any tournament at any venue anywhere, but our prevailing winds are north to north east that time of year. The CCC committee has discussed the topic of bad weather, and in case of extreme weather and as a last resort, we have come up with the option of moving the venues into the harbors and into the famous big fish rowing canal!
