I thoroughly enjoyed that video! You have caught some huge, beautiful carp.
Thanks for sharing.

Slimy,
Thanks for the info. I plan on taking a weekend off of chasing salmon to attend this event as it is only 2.5 hours from my house. The thought has crossed my mind to drag the salmon boat with me or we can just go chase some a day or 2 early;) *hint hint*
Are net extentions needed at any of the venues?
Hi Dave,
The water surface may be about 4-5 feet below your feet so I would say that a 10 foot net would be way comfortable!
hmmm... I've got to get out more this year! But wind is a major deciding factor on taking my 18' boat out on that big lake. Usually light SW winds make for a beautiful day but not knowing what the winds will be till about a day or two before, makes long distance planning tentative at best.
The week of the CCC will be a busy one. You may want to leave that boat at home for now, because anyone coming a day or two early will be treated to some fun fish-ins at some of the areas great locations.
-
I thought my should start Chicago Carp Classic profile on Facebook.
This is the best way to spread the world about event, city, great way to promote it and our great sponsors.
Few thousand of people viewed our profile of Midwest Winter Carp League on facebook in one week !!!
just my thought
Best Regards
Paul
Good idea Paul!

Hmmmm
I am not familar with how the Chicago Salmon run works, but on our side of lake michigan it happens the first 2 weeks of September. Are we going to be fighting with the salmon guys on these areas?
Also how do these venues fish after a prolonged West wind, meaning the big lake will flip and hold cold water near shore in chicago?
Hi Dave, Good point, thanks for asking.
There will be nocompetition with the "salmon guys" because the venue areas will only be for CCC participants that weekend.
The park district is on-board with us!
Last September, we tested the venue with a local fishin. With only one day of chumming, everyone caught carp and many were large ones. This pattern continued into the following week.
The shore line has been rebuilt in the venue areas and limestone boulders have been placed in the water near the shore and out about 50 feet to attract and hold fish. There are not many features our side of the lake, a mostly flat sand bottom, so the carp tend to run the shore line.
Of course we cannot control the weather, and that could be said of any tournament at any venue anywhere, but our prevailing winds are north to north east that time of year. The CCC committee has discussed the topic of bad weather, and in case of extreme weather and as a last resort, we have come up with the option of moving the venues into the harbors and into the famous big fish rowing canal!
-
I dont mind entering a comp just to fish somewhere
and it would be great to meet some folks but honestly short of a miracle i wont be able to get there this year
Well, if there is anything the CCC committee can do to help, any questions, you can contact us at <CCC@CARPANGLERSGROUP.COM>

I appreciate the thought that went into this, Dan, but I actually prefer the peg rotation system or even the current system over your proposal. I would much rather compete on the same day in the same conditions rather than hoping that conditions at my peg for my session are better than conditions at the same peg at another session. For example, we have seen peg 1 finish with 15 fish on two different sessions, but we have also seen peg 1 blanking or catching 2 or 3 fish at other sessions. I really doubt that angler skill and/or their choice of bait/tackle made the difference at peg 1. The difference, I would argue, was more reflective of the varied water/weather conditions on those different days. Under your proposal, the serendipity of the weather and water conditions on different days become the luck factor. I certainly wouldn't want to be in a peg competition if I had to fish in those blizzard conditions in which your Group B fished and then have a different group compete for peg points in much better conditions.
For that reason, I think peg rotation throughout the 10 sessions of the league is a fairer system.
I think an even fairer system, that incorporates angler knowledge (specifically watercraft), would be to have anglers choose pegs under the following format: To establish baseline data, have a random peg draw at each group's first session. For every session after that, the angler with the lowest point total would be given first choice of pegs with, of course, the highest ranking angler given the last choice. From a purely statistical, clinical standpoint (i.e., peg selection reflects the order of finish every time because the first chooser selects the best peg), this would result in a tie for first among all participants at the end of the league. Of course, we all know that a couple hook pulls or a good day at a supposedly bad peg or even a peg choice mistake will not result in the same number of points for all participants at the end of the league. However, it will, I believe, allow another interesting aspect to the league by relying on angler knowledge rather than blind luck in the peg selection process. I think it will also result in a tighter grouping of scores and a more exciting contest, right until the last day.
We need to dramatically reduce blind luck, especially, as Mihai indicated, in a contest that anybody is capable of winning. The more we can reduce the luck factor, the better/fairer the contest will be. We have seen the same luck-of-the-draw results in the Joliet League, and if that league continues next year, the rules will most definitely change to reduce the luck factor. I look forward to other discussion/ideas.--Frank
Yep, just trying to come up with alternatives. The weather is a factor that cannot be controlled. Although I like the peg rotation idea, weather is still a factor.
That being said, the better suggestion so far is the one where the angler with the least points chooses his peg first. The more I think about it, the more I like it.
-
...and as You know some of them made mistake did not count all fish, that is why you won last time
but like a said it is a competition, sport and is your choice to pick tactic to win, sometimes tactic is wrong and You loose
Wow. I caught four more fish than the next angler.
That is some serious culling!
-
average weight of fish determines points per day???
I like that
I'm not so sure about average weight because anglers are already culling their catch to increase their average now.
-
Sounds good to me too, but...
-every sunday is diferent (water temp, air temp, air preassure, etc...)
-there is some days when everybody catching fish everywhere no mater what, some day not!?
Maybe average weight will help???
Good idea Marcin.
-
Interesting, I like this idea. I guess If we put this together with the ideas of rotating pegs and points we would have the perfect league as far as fairness goes. Im sure someone would still find something to complain about
Yes Mike. Under this system, rotating pegs is an option. But I rather like the idea that if I get peg 3 twice, the second time I know the peg better and stand a better chance of catching more fish.
How we are going count points Dan??? After league??? or every round??? sorry l did not get this
The points would be counted every week just like now.
The difference would be that this week you may have 5 point for peg 3 but next week another angler at peg 3 catches more fish, so now you would have 4 points and so on.
The idea is that you would only be fishing against anglers that fish that peg, and not against anglers on other pegs.
Remember that the problem now is that an angler on pegs 2 and 3 have very little chance against anglers on 1 and 5.

There has been much discussion as to how to even the playing field at tournaments, like the Winter Carp League, that use the same venue and pegs throughout. I am proposing a new point system that has not been discussed.
The current problem is that certain pegs are more productive than the others, and this is true at any venue. The current system gives an unfair advantage to an angler that is lucky enough to draw the better pegs repeatedly.
The way this new system would work is that an angler would still draw for a peg, but instead of fishing against other anglers that day, who may have drawn better pegs, he would be fishing against anglers in other groups that have drawn the same peg.
Let's say we are still working on the current 5 point system. Five different anglers on five different weekends have fished peg 1; the angler who catches the most fish/weight would get 5 points, the angler catching the next highest number of fish/weight would get 4 points and so on.
Let's say an angler gets the same peg twice or more times. He would still be fishing against the peg on the same point system. So he could only get 5 points once. If he caught the two highest fish/weight for that peg he would get 5 points for the highest and 4 points for the second highest.
The idea here is that no matter what peg you get, the playing field is now better balanced.

Here is an interesting stat.
Most fish caught per peg, top 3:
Peg 1 Frank 15, Mike 15, Lukaz 10
Peg 2 Tracy 4, Ed 3, Mihai 3
Peg 3 Istvan 9, Larry K 6, Mike 5, Ernest 5
Peg 4 Adam 7, Greg 6, Mihai 5, Larry H 5
Peg 5 Dan 10, Iacob 10, Greg 10
If we go by these stats, most desirable pegs in order are: 1,5,3,4,2
...and that is 15 different anglers
!

It sure is warm. Must be a sludge fest on the river bank.
Apparently pegs 3 and 4 are doing well!
-
Nice plug and link to the video.
Good luck Larry!

Hey Paul, didn't we fish in weather like this December 12th?
...no, really
-
Welcome aboard, hooked on Carp!
Here in the midwest, we catch carp in some of the coldest weather, way below freezing.
Like Hairwig said, find the warm water.
... a good start is to find ice free open water,
