  1. Here are a few more.

    Helen Keller Carp:

This fish was fighting very weird and swam head first into a rock right by the shoreline. When I got it in the net I noticed it had no eyes! It wasn't a fresh wound either, both sockets were covered in skin just like the rest of the fish. I have no idea how this fish grew to 17 lbs without eyes. Sorry about the blood in the pic, but I couldn't stop the fish for head butting rocks on the way in.

    Road Kill Carp:

This one looks like it got run over by a car.

  2. Hey Bruce, my buddy Attila caught the brother of Adam's fish last week. We started laughing at the poor thing as soon as we got it in the net.

Now onto the fish that I'm entering into the contest. This fish has a special place in my heart because he looks hilarious and I caught him two times! The first time I caught him and saw his face I couldn't believe he fit my entire hair rig into his mouth. I had to get a picture of this fish and I figured if he was making a funny face I might as well do the same. Do we get bonus points in this contest if the angler is also ugly?

I caught this fish for a second time later that season during the spawn and lets just say he was happy to see me...so happy he left a present all over my mat. I figure none of the other carp ever mate with him and this is the most attention he's ever received.

Hopefully I'll see my old friend again at some point. Maybe he'll even find a fugly female carp someday and make the next generation of carp that make us laugh.

  3. Nice meeting you Dave, I'm glad you had a good time. I ended up leaving around noon. Tough conditions with the cold front and the wind but I ended up catching 4 fish: 26.13, 20.8, a high teen and a peanut. Hopefully the other guys pulled out a few after I left. Miguel, Markie, Laurence...it was good seeing you guys again. I didn't break out the camera so post pics if you got em. Can't wait for the next one!

  4. At least you had a beautiful day. I haven't been fishing much lately but I know the bite has been bad with all this wacky weather we've had in the past few months. Too much rain and temperature drops and spikes. It looks like we're in for some more warm weather with a little rain coming in mid to late week. Hopefully they'll start to move around a bit more fattening up for the winter. It would be good to see a few nice ones pulled out next weekend.

  5. I'm sure there are plenty of big fish around, it's just a matter of finding the right spot, holding them there, and putting in enough time to hook into one. Big fish like access to deep water so I would fish in and around the deepest spot you can find. In rivers fish are constantly moving around so it's tough to hold them in your spot unless you do a lot of baiting. I would start pre baiting at least 3 days in advance and don't be afraid to throw in 5 gallons of bait or more per day. If you keep baiting every day more big fish will move in and they tend to push out the smaller fish. Good luck, lets us know how you do!

  6. I don't think the carp in that video was a 50. It was 39-40" and the guy weighed it on a plastic IKEA scale which read around 196-198 lbs before he was holding the fish and 242-244 as he's holding it. The needle starts bouncing up and down as the camera man gets closer and the weight increases, probably from the camera man putting a hand on the other guy's back or leg to add a few lbs. Looks like a low to mid 40 to me. No sense in calling the guy out on youtube. I already feel dumber after reading some of his comments, and starting a war of words with an idiot is a waste of time and energy.

  7. Thanks for running the tournament Louis. I had a blast! Congratulations to the other anglers, there were some great fish caught this year. Can't wait for the Big 4 2012 tournament!

  8. Don't forget I'm still fishing too, post spawn bite is just starting to turn on. Mario, I wouldn't be surprised if you catch up in 1 weekend but you still have to get out there and fish!

  9. The NJ guys are getting nervous, A New York guy is catching up ;)

You're only 62 lbs behind now...I'm shaking in my boots! Maybe if you two team up and combine weights you'll catch me B)

  10. The fishing was slow on Saturday but it was a fun day. It was great to see everyone, the weather was nice, and the porterhouses we grilled for lunch weren't too bad either. I fished for 16 hours and only caught 4 fish, all under 20lbs. Attila kicked butt in the morning and caught 4 fish, 3 over 20lbs up to 26.11. It was a fun day, can't wait to do it again!

Here are some of Attila's fish:

  11. After a few slow days of fishing this past weekend I got a belated birthday present, my first 40! Before this monster hit I had missed my first 3 or 4 fish and I was getting frustrated, then at around 6:00am I had a screaming run on one of my sweet corn rigs. When I took the rod out of the pod the line got wrapped around the indicator so I spent the first 20 seconds of the fight trying to untangle the mess as the fish was ripping drag. Luckily I untangled it and after a 15 minute battle the fish was in the net. The fish wasn't that long for a 40 at 39", but it was unbelievably fat with a girth of almost 32", 42lbs 2oz. After a few quick pics I got her back in the water and she took off. What a fish! This was the first fish I've ever caught that weighed over 40lbs...one I'll never forget.

  12. Tides look good for an early start - low tide around 6am!

We need to get as many spots filled before any MEs arrive guys and they are already very active!

    Laurence

It's going to be hilarious when the meat eaters show up and see the whole park is filled with carp fisherman. They like to fish the spot we were in last year (grove 2) so we should make that home base. Tide and weather look awesome, get ready for some big ones!

  13. Yes everyone make sure you have your NJ fishing license. Pawel and me got carded by the parks officer. So bring your licenses.

Maybe he thought you were fishing for stripers, which you do need a license to fish for. Next time I would tell them you're fishing for carp and you don't need a license below the landing lane bridge. I got carded once there too, the ranger wasn't a nice guy and seemed pretty dumb. Most of the park rangers are cool and usually they just stop and bs with you like at last year's fish in, but unfortunately there are a few bad eggs who don't know the rules. I asked a few of the rangers about it and they said you don't need a license, and they also confirmed that some of the rangers don't use their heads.

  14. Fish In on my birthday? Count me in! I live close to the spot so I can help do some pre baiting. Hopefully we won't get much rain before the event, there have been a few days in the last 2 weeks where the Raritan has looked like chocolate milk with trees floating in it.
