  1. In my case the answer has been yes many times. Many times more than I should admit.

Nowadays, life is "interesting" enough as it is. I usually don't go looking for more trouble all by myself. :P

2 weeks ago I faced the same problem, rain was expected by 5 pm, well we decided to go and low and behold the storm hit us at 2 pm, and lets just say we were extremely wet by the time we packed it up and got safely to the car, I was sick for over a week for that trip lol, did get into some nice fish though so it was worth it.

  2. Would this be a lake the likes of ladybird or tomhannock? If so then he$$ yes! There isn't a storm big enough or bad enough to stop me, even if it weren't a lake with such a reputation. And would you be driving back in the storm because you HAD to be back or because you don't want to fish through the storm?

Wifey insists I come home that night, and the storm is a thunderstorm, not sure I like the idea of getting zapped for a few fish lol

  3. Carl Norris, age 50, from Weatherford, just west of Fort Worth.

I'm married with two grown children.

Neil Stern, past Texas Chair of CAG, got me started carping only about 6 months ago. He lives here in Weatherford also. We go fishing every other weekend somewhere. Am always looking for good carp fishing areas in this area. Know any?

Fished in the TWITCHIE Tournament in Austin last fall. Tied for 2nd place. Of course, EVERYONE but Tony Cartlidge and Keith Melrose (Team Whoopass) tied for 2nd place.

PB Carp - 8 lbs. (Don't laugh, I just got started)

PB Buffalo - 9 lbs. (Not for long)

Hi Carl Welcome to the world of carping, I work in weatherford and live close by, if you are ever up to the challenge we could hit up LBL and possibly raise that PB of yours quite abit, just shoot me a PM.

My first and only mirror came right out of weatherford lake, they are in there but ya have to spend the time and be patiant.

  4. My friend Joe and I decided on a bonzai mission to Austin this Christmas eve, last time Ben and I visited this great venue we had a certain swim in mind but when we arrived it was taken well I was not going to let that happen once again so we were on the road by 1:00 am.

There was concerns about bad weather but decided to tempt fate, we finaly arrived at the swim and had lines in the water by a little after 5:00 am, and then we sat, and we sat, and sat some more, and we rebaited, and then sat some more, 4 hours had past without so much as a beep and then after some spacing out on my part I heard Joes alarm screaming. Now joe is a old school carper and not use to 12 foot rods, so he played this fish for what seemed like forever lol, well we finally got the fish netted and on the matt and it was a nice fish for sure and joes first LBL carp.

No more than 5 minutes after the release of joes capture I got my first run and ended up with my first fish of the day.

    16-0

We were hearing some crashes in the area so we knew the fish had moved in the area so we baited heavy to keep them there, well it paid off and joe got another screaming run and his second LBL carp.

    16-12

Then it was my turn again and this fish put up a great fight from start to finish, she took out line on several occasions and I knew it was a decent fish, when we got her on the matt I thought it might be another 30+ for me and possibly a new PB but when I liftd it to weigh I knew it was just a fat high 20

Me and my 2nd and last fish for the day at 28 on the nose

Joe topped off the day with a 14 lber

Then the rains came in around 2 so we got chased off like wet rats lol, had a great time and always enjoy fishing in Austin.

  5. Well me and Ben took the long drive down to Austin once again and was planning on hitting a swim we thought did not have much pressure, well we followed zachs map and hit eillers(sp) park bt somebody had beat us there. grrr

We decided to hit another spot that Dave from BCT had fished with the Hooter calender girl (for those CAG members who know the story) well turns out it is the same spot that Texas Z and atx wheeler had been fishing and they just pulled up for a little fishing for themselves, we looked at the area and decided it was just not enough room for all of us so on the road we went trying to find a good spot to fish, well us being creatures of habit we ended up back at Melrose.

We ended up in the water around 7:30 am and heard a few crashed here and there so we were optimistic, I got my first run pretty quickly and ended up being a 3 or 4 lb channel, maybe another hour later my left rod started screaming and when I fought the fish I could feel a snag rubbing on my line but I was lucky and the fish did not put up much of a fight until after I cleared the snag, ended up being a very healthy 28-8 common.

Things were slow after that, we hooked many fish that were lost to hook pulls and snags, Ben had one at the net but where he was fishing was very shallow and when I went to net the fish the hook snagged my net preventing me from netting the fish, finally the fish spit the hook off and swam away, grrr

    Here is my 28-8 common

  6. I believe in every point you make but with all our high tech gear does not in fact catch us more fish, all it does is make us more reliant on these gadgets we love so much.

back in california when I was trout fishing I used the standard rod holders and as a bite detector I used a small float attached to the line, when I got a run the float went flying in the air, now next to me was one gentlemen who had some pretty fancy gear and one of the pieces was in fact a smart cast, I watched him make many casts finding the right spot to fish, in the mean time I had landed at least 2 or 3 fish, when he was finally ready to fish the bite had stopped and he blanked, ha ha so much for his fancy technology.

  7. it is unfortunate when you get a 30 and nobody is around to share your excitement my first one came from a pond and I was alone, did get some onlookers asking me if it was a catfish lol, luckily one of them was snapping pics with his phone.
