  1. This is just way too much to take in. My plan was to setup on my spot, get the bait in the water, and start visiting with everyone. I hope to stay within range of my remote if I have to make a mad dash for one of those pesky alarms. However, I might have to really get serious about this tournament after seeing the amount of spare change Larry K will be gathering from the floor of his truck for prize money. That might increase even more when he really starts to look. I'm betting there's parts of that truck he hasn't seen in years. :)

  2. I've had a fisherman watching me fish at a local lake for a bit and I've been working on him to try carp fishing. Today, I fixed him up with some equipment and brought him to one of my "honey holes". We have a new convert after he hauled in 12 carp in about 3 hours. Said he had to quit because his arms were sore!

  3. 'After seeing the size of the catch from you guys last weekend, I'd rule out that place as well!"

No different than the popcans rockcutt and the rock river have to offer. Just like fishing close to home larry

Just keep that thought and stay to the east!!! The traffic and ten minute drive is also a big concern!! ;) Should you have a change of heart, the welcome mat is always down. :D

  4. I will be driving in on Friday to fish the river. I'd like to fish someplace other than the traditional winter spots on the "ditch". After seeing the size of the catch from you guys last weekend, I'd rule that place out as well! LOL I might also stick around to fish on Sunday and would again like to fish on the river. Some of your local expertise would be welcome and I'd also like to share some bank time with our long distance travelers that I've yet to meet.

  5. Just trying to make sure we don't lose someone in the BIG city. :o I know they're big boys, but anyone can get lost especially here.:lol::)

It would be nice to know where "on the river" others are planning to fish. I'm driving in on Friday to fish the river but only know a few of the spots from the winter contests. I'm sure there are a number of other locations and info about parking, how far you need to transport gear, etc. would be helpful.

  6. Looks alot like Bicentennial Park, Larry!

It reminds me of a time we were in Oconto, WI fishing a team tournament in the fall. A couple of drunks were rolling around in the dirt road and throwing some pretty good punches at one another. Rudolfo looks at them and yells to me, "Hey Frank, remind you of Joliet?"

We sure had plenty of time on our hands to sit and watch the "wildlife" at that tournament!! :D

  7. Thanks. They were taking every fish they could get for Whoo Haven. It's a rehab center for all birds of prey. They have a tough time maintaining a stock of food for the birds. I stuck around after I weighed my fish and did a demo for euro style fishing and tried to push the C&R of sport fishing for carp. The local club inquired about me doing a program for them at one of their monthly meetings. I also spoke with a guy that does an area radio show and wants to do an interview. So, we just try to do whatever we can to promote the sport and change some views....one fisherman at a time!

  8. We got a small break in the hot/humid weather this morning and added a nice breeze. I setup on one of my favorite spots at a local lake and "spombed" a small area. The channel cats can be a problem on this venue so I baited up with WCB 10mm sweet corn popups and one piece of plastic corn. Sure enough, first three fish were channel cats in the 2 to 4 pound range. I presented my baits a bit beyond my chummed spot and had my first carp. It was about a ten pounder with a strange wound in the corner of it's mouth. I got him back in the water and then landed a couple more smaller fish. My next run was the SAME 10# fish with the marked mouth. I've had this happen at times, but not within 20 minutes. About an hour later, my second rod finally starts coming to life and it's the same fish for the third time. I must admit, he didn't put up much of a fight the third time!! ~8 They sure must have a taste for WCB!!!

  9. I fished the Rock in Rockford Saturday and half of Sunday with a friend from the Chicago area. We also caught too many to count but had a great time. Largest ones were around 14# but they all fought like they were 20+. Love those river fish! All of this was done under constant boat traffic that just seemed to encourage the bite. By midnight, we were exhausted and switched to the largest hookbaits we had. The plan was to get some sleep but a few still hit the 20mm popups.

  10. Mark,

Welcome to the midwest. Although I've fished L. Geneva extensively for bass, northern, and walleye, I've never fished it for carp. You'll find that it's a very clear lake but gets a lot of pressure from the recreational boaters. I have fished another lake very close to it...L. Delevan...with some success. If you go to this website, you can get all of the fishing information on rules and even buy your license. Be sure to establish residency in Wi for a much cheaper price on the license!!

Drop me a PM when you have some free time and I'd be happy to meet you somewhere in the area and bring some extra gear for you to use. I'm just across the state line in Rockford, Il and retired.....as in I can fish anytime I want!! LOL

  11. Mike...not sure if anybody actually signed up at the event but we sure talked carping with a lot of folks that stopped to watch. We also got to meet some new members and talk even more. Wish you could have attended. I haven't seen you in quite a spell. Need to get you out to Rockford and show you some spots.

  12. No money & no prizes....just a great time visiting with everyone and catching a few fish. Tracy arrived late ( didn't set his alarm) but brought some welcome cold water. Paul, the ride back to Rockford was brutal....2 1/2 hrs! Got caught in a funeral procession on Irving Park and then stop & go traffic on I90 from Elgin to Belvidere. Thanks to Paul W. for setting this up. Hope to have more of these in the future. Great way to promote CAG to members and non-members!
