  1. Just an "atta boy" for Paul and his group from last weekend. We talked with the grounds keeper at your swim this afternoon. He said thanks for the great job you guys did cleaning up after your session. He was VERY impressed with all of you. Now that's the way to spread a bit of goodwill and promote carping! WTG :yourock:

  2. Wow! 70° weather for Group C on April 10. I hope the rain stays away. Good luck, Group C!

Larry H. and I fished under the secret coal bridge on Wednesday. On my drive north, I was thinking lots of fish will be caught. However, it rained most of the morning and the water seemed a little dirtier than usual. I only caught two fish using plastic corn. Larry caught four on World Classic Baits boilies and had two other nice runs. All but one fish were in the teens, ranging from 14 to 18 lbs. The two that got away were probably bigger, of course. Go get 'em on Sunday, Jacob, Mihai, Greg, Istvan, and Ed!

No Aldi corn here folks. Just the BIG WCB 20mm popups on one of three rods.....the one that caught all the fish!!

  3. Very nice fish and great write-up. Now, I wish I'd gone with you instead of blanking on the Rock. I could have at least been your net man and picked up some of your expertise on photography. That's the WCB that's been working all winter for me. I just got my Spring order from them on Sunday and can't wait to try the new Big Game series. BTW...I'll quit making jokes about your "bird food mix". It must have been Andy's mix that drew all those seagulls!! ;)

  4. The carp on my local lake were at various stages of spawning last year for over 3 weeks. During that period, it was normal to catch 25+ fish in a 6 hr session. Many of the females would have 2 or 3 males following along right at the net. Since they don't smoke, I'm guessing they were looking for some maize after the "act" !! ;)

  5. As a retiree, I get to pick and choose the weekdays I want to fish. So, when Teo talked me into going to Milwaukee today, I just had to go. It almost seemed empty up there since the Midwest Contest ended. We had steady action most of the day plus a "fire drill" with five fish on the line at one time. We netted all five but it took another 30 minutes to straighten everything out!! The fish were running on the small side but we did manage over 30 fish between the two of us. Largest of the day was a 23+. Even with 44 degree water, we had a great time, got a bit of sunshine, and met another carper from Wisconsin. The toughest part was retrieving my Spomb from a branch 20 feet out from the bank.

  6. Yes, there is a power plant upstream. However, it hasn't been generating for almost 10 days and the water tmperature dropped 8 to 10 degrees. The first day or two, the fishing really shut down. The fish adjusted to the new temperature and it's been great fishing. Check out the results from our group fishing the Winter League on Sunday...5 fishermen and 665# with a 28-1 and a 29-8 taken. It's worth the heavy clothing and snow shovels!! :D

  7. Winter Carp league Group A early results on 1/2/11: Peg draw--Andy-1, Mike-3, Adam-4, Tracy-5. Larry is in San Diego, so peg 2 is not being fished. Andy caught a 5-10 within the first five minutes of the session, but league rules only allow fish of 8 pounds or heavier. Mike has caught the first recordable fish of the day at 13-2. Good luck, group A. Stay warm.

Current (8:36 a.m.) Milwaukee weather: 11 degrees with -1° wind chill.

current in San Diego (7:15A)....50's & sunny...what's wind chill????? B) Sure miss you guys!! Good luck

  8. No more warming my hands in 32 degree water

 ...I received some handwarmers for Christmas :) .

I do believe that the Chicago river will be lined with "nuts" :jumpy: for the FFF on Janurary 1st 2011.

    :thewave: Happy New Year!! :thewave:

I'll do my duty and check out the banks of the river in San Diego for you "nuts"! Don't expect to find too many while I'm out there. Good luck to everyone.

  9. Things I learned at yesterdays Winter Carp League:

    • Tournament carp anglers can be insanely competitive. (my wife used the word “nuts”) :)

    • Groups A, C, and D will never have a good enough excuse not to fish on their assigned dates this winter! :D

    Dan...your wife is right!

As for "good enough excuse"......San Diego here I come! :P

  10. You five are insane!! How were the roads driving up and back? Did anyone have a shelter that survived the onslaught? If so, tell us which one to buy. It would have won recognition. Since Dan got peg #5 again, he must have paid the rest of you a considerable fee, only to have peg #1 out-produce it for the third time. Hats off to you guys...you are tough! :)
