  3. Took a trip out with Zach last week and blanked, he managed a nice 20 pic below. He inspired me by saying he wanted to try and catch a carp in every month this year, I started Carp fishing again this year in March and had managed to catch a Carp every month up till November, i decided to go back to a lake that i caught fish in earlier this year today, I only had from 7am till 10am and knew this was going to be a challenge. I baited up an area about 20 feet by 20 feet and put both rods in the area. I noticed small tugs on the line after about 1.5 hours ( a little like Turtle nips). I think the Carp were playing with the bait. Then after 2 hours i had a take, a nice 20+ for November. Looking forward to December carpin.

  4. JD I lived in Germantown and used to walk a lot of the local lakes, I remember seeing some Carp in Shelby Farms not sure how big it was about 8 years ago, I did meet one carp angler ( a displaced Brit like myself) who did fish euro style, he fished a lot of the local lakes including the small lake by the baseball complex, he said he had had Carp around 25lb from some of the smaller lakes. Maybe you will bump into him one day.

    Good luck.

  5. I had this happen to me, its all water under the bridge now but at the time its horendous, when the person knew what was going on and waits till your at work to strike, then has the gaul to put it up on the net like it was all their own doing! Takes allsorts, if i did this not knowing that someone else has been working on the spot it would take the edge off a nice catch for me and to do this knowingly is an absolute no-no for me.

Great thread, theres lots more to etequette than using other peoples work, ive had the situation where your casting say 15yds along a reedbed to your right but your rods are on an adjoining bank that is at 90 degrees to the reeds with a few feet of gap between the rods and the reeds, leaving a long narrow triangle of water between your line and the reeds. Then along comes mr Bassomatic, who stands between you and the reeds then proceeds to cast along the reeds, when you point out where your lines are the answere given is " i know but i wont hook you up" these guys arn't brought up the same way so i usually try and be patient as they usually clear off after 2 or 3 casts.

I agree, there have been some posts of big fish recently that came from swims that have been baited by others..............a little frustrating i just hope they realize that they could not have done this without the help of others. This particularly applies to the smaller venues or where swims are limited.............They know who they are.

  6. Decided to try a new lake before the season draws to a close this year, this particular swim is usually around 4 foot deep and i am not sure about its potential to hold fish of over 25lbs when the water is low, however we have had a lot of rain recently in PA and this particular swim is now about 6-7 feet deep. I went out Friday evening and laid a bed of hemp and corn with the intention to go back and fish Saturday am. I arrived at the swim about 730am and started fishing around 8am. within 20 minutes i had a run and i knew it was a good sized fish, landed the fish at exactly 830am. a little over 26lbs. Think i will go back in the spring before the water recedes next summer and see if there are any over the magic 30. My time was limited as i could only fish till 12 but i did not get any more bites,i think this would be a good overnight lake.

  7. I was walking around my local lake on Saturday and noticed that a couple of good sized carp were lurking in the margins , i was in a very tight swim with a telegraph pole and just enough room to cast one rod, i did not have any tackle so i decided to go back on Sunday and pre-bait the swim with two medium sized cans of corn and some crushed boilies, the bubbles started almost immediately. I rigged a waggler float, when i do this i like to make sure the bait is about 3 inches on the bottom, stopping any shy carp from noticing the line going up to the float. It was getting kinda late in the day so i cast out about 20ft and waited, i have forgotten how exciting watching the float in anticipation can be. The float starts to move back and forward as the carp brush up against the line, and suddenly i get a tug, the waggler moves down and i strike.............nothing. This happens about 5 times over the next 20 mins. I change up to a size 4 hook and load the hook with Corn, every time i reel in there is weed on the hook so i add a piece of plastic corn to the tip in the hope it keeps the stack of corn above the weed, next strike a 15Lb fish, followed by a 10lb and a 12lb. Three fish in one hour and its just getting dark. went back Monday evening and had 3 more this time smaller 8lb - 12lb. i am going to leave the spot for a while in the hope that the bigger ones will return. All of these fish fight like crazy on the light line and rod, i have the clutch set very lightly and the fish usually run about 60ft straight out as i strike. Nothing big but great sport.

some pics of the fish and a strange looking carp in the first one.

  8. As some of you will know, I am originally from the UK and fished for carp up till I left 11 years ago, I have not Carp fished in any of the other states i lived in but when I got to PA the lakes reminded me of England and I started fishing for Carp again in the Spring. I hit a 25Lb Common in Marburg early in the season and set my sights on a 30Lb fish before the end of the season. I was fishing a lake on Saturday that was very weedy, I fished it for a few hours but nothing much was happening, baited the swim and arrived back on Sunday, I could see fish feeding but could not get through the weed. I set up a new hair that would allow me to fish a 20mm Plastic pop up at about 5" this should clear the weed on the bottom. I recently purchased some Dynamite Carp-Tec Boilies from Big Carp Tackle, these boilies are almost the same color and size as the plastic 20mm pop up. I also purchased some Fade away bullet pva bags Maple flavor and these had been providing nice commons all week at a local lake (Maple is one of my favorite carp flavors). I loaded the bag with Boilies, and almost 1 hour to the time i cast out I hit this Mirror Carp a little over 31Lbs, this beat my PB Mirror from the UK by 8 lbs and it is my largest PA carp. Goal reset, is 40 possible by the end of next season from PA?
