  1. Just a lake with public access not really a park, you have to park in the YMCA parking lot or near the ball diamonds over there and take the walking trail down to the beach. I would suggest parking in the YMCA lot though as they have a paved trail all the way to the spot, its much easier.

You will have fun dealing with all the kayakers and canoes lol. Thats the one bad thing about carping in the US is rude boaters and such.

  2. Hey Chip welcome to the forum! There are tons of great people here in Michigan. Im from over in Allen Park and do the occasional bit of fishing at ford, but currently in the fall most of my fishing is off of lake erie. Look forward to fishing with you some time! By the way check out milford lake above kent lake in the spring, a good few mirrors can be found there.

  3. 'Sweet' is the understatement of the year... What amazing beauties you caught here. And you found a way to land 7 out of the 8 kois you spotted? That was seriously good angling...

The only problem now will be to decide which one of those will be the fish of the month. Now that is a really tough question...

My favorite is the white one with the orange head and the bright red gills... Incredible fish!

Thanks Jerome! The one last one that needs to get caught is a common with a black body but his head and fins are red, very cool looking fish but we only ever see him for a couple minutes if that when we fish. He comes and goes to frequently to catch.

Also I would love to see what kinda of weights some of these can get up to, because its only these 8 carp in 17 acres of clear deep water loaded with food. They already have good proportions on them.

  4. Glad you got out and fished the spot right next to my school! Its a cool little spot that has a few decent fish in it. Its also got plenty of smaller fish too. When its hot in the middle of the day the smaller fish here seem to stop feeding and hangout under the trees and the bigger fish are the only ones that really feed at that time.

  5. Got out to the water we call the koi pool for a couple more sessions and I picked up these beautiful fish stalking, The first is a recapture of my orange mirror, I know i posted her from a couple weeks ago but she is posing better in this pic! Then the next fish is a perfect linear mirror koi that i have been wanting to catch for a while now! We have now caught 7 of the 8 carp in this lake, only one more to catch now.

  6. These koi look old enough to breed. Maybe some baby koi are on the way?

I would hope so, I would love to see them breed. There is a good mix of males and females and the lake has a lot of good spawning grounds. Wish there were more in it currently, the only thing that makes them catchable with so little numbers of carp in the water is that they hug the shoreline so they are able to be stalked.

  7. So if you guys remember my last post about the koi water Brendan and I found this is a continuation after fishing it a couple times. We have determined that there are 8 carp in this 17 acre lake and they are all Koi. I had 3 of them on my first trip here, since then we have ended up catching 7 of the 8 now. I even recaught my orange mirror. Here are a few of the recent catches from the lake!

  8. Hey everyone here is a little write up from when i went scouting new waters a couple days ago:

So on Monday i was itching to go scout a few waters after i got out of class and i remember my friend Darin telling me he saw a few koi in this one water like 5 years ago. I thought why not and decided to head out to that water just to scout and i really didn't plan on fishing.

So I arrived and hopped out of the car and started to take a look around the lake, looking at the lake i wasn't to sure if carp were going to be in there. It was crystal clear, very weedy, and filled with bass, blugegill, and multiple other predator fish so i wasn't too sure about it. After a good bit of walking I was on the other side of the lake and I saw a lady flyfishing, so I asked her if she had ever seen any carp in here. Her response was that she has only seen KOI in here and that got me pretty excited! Then she said that when she's sees koi they are always the same 4 that she always sees, so that got me a little disappointed as i knew then it will be tough to find them. She then told me where she usually sees them at, so thats where I headed on my way around the lake.

I arrived at the spot that the lady told me that she always sees the same few koi at and i got up on top of a picnic table to get a better view of the water. Sure enough about 15 yards out i see a big white koi, and its moving at me! Immediately I ran back to my car as fast as possible to grab my rods get them set up and make a bit of method. I ran back down with the gear and I see the White koi which i now realized it was a white and orange fully scaled mirror!! I threw a couple method balls down the bank in the line i knew the fish was taking down the bank. He ignored all of them though and then met up with another white and black koi!! So there is two that the lady told me about!

Soon they both swam way out into the lake and disappeared together so i walked over to where i baited to look at the bait before packing and i see a big orange and black koi feeding on some method!! Immediately i flicked my rig out past him only having two split-shots on as the weight and dragged it back slowly until it was near him. I see him dip down and FISH ON!!!

To tell you that was the most nerve wracking fight with a fish I've ever had was an understatement!! Eventally she was in my net, A big ORANGE-BLACK MIRROR KOI!!! I called Brendan down for pics and weights, which she weighed in at 15lb 8oz, a new PB KOI!! After releasing her i see another koi and casted to it and FISH ON again!!! This one was a small but stunning common koi with nice colors! Well after putting that back I see another couple koi in the area and i had a baited rod sitting there and the big orange and white fully scaled takes the bait and FISH ON again!! This is Insane I was thinking! Well i got her in my net and again it was a beautiful WHITE-ORANGE FULLY SCALED MIRROR with huge scales!!!

That was it for the action but i did see another red and black koi and a what i think is a leather that is white and black! Always shows that you never know what you will find when you go out and find new waters!! To bad this was just before discovery month lol, although it gets me excited for discovery month still!

Brendan also went down here yesterday and saw a couple regular mirrors feeding, so apparently there are more mirrors in here than commons as the only common we have seen was a koi!
