  1. Looks like the conditions were just right for that swim. I don't recall you reporting that class of fish coming out of Mill Pond in any previous posts. Congrats! As always, great write up and great fish.

    Scream'in runs,

    Roy

Thanks Roy! Yes conditions seemed right, I did have one other fish of 25lb+ about 2 years ago or so out of here but haven't had one since. I'm looking forward to seeing one of the bigger mirrors that I know are in here come out.

  2. Yesterday Brendan and myself went out to Saline mill pond to catch some of the stunning commons and mirrors that swim around in there. We haven't been here in a while so it was nice to come back and fish it for a bit. We started out fishing the normal area where we always set up and started to catch within 10 minutes of fishing. We caught a lot of fish while we were there including a very cool small mirror for myself and a 16lb 2oz mirror for Brendan which is a very big mirror for what we normally see out of here!

By about 3:00 PM i decided that i wanted to move up the pond and fish the creek at the top of the pond to hopefully catch something a bit nicer. I set up in the wider section of the creek and it was apparent that no fish were there so i walked even farther into the creek and i saw very good fish feeding near the shore so i decided to take the rods and move them up into that part of the creek. I picked up 3 fish in the creek, one of which was a 26lb 8oz common and another an 18lb+.

Brendan picked up more fish as the day went on as well but no more fish of size

  3. Definitely a good day! The one with the black head is certainly new to me. Could someone describe a ghostie for me? I was under the impression that they were a pale color. Thanks.

Thanks Skammer! A ghostie is a hybrid between a koi carp and a common carp. How you tell its a ghostie is the black shading on the top and sides of the head. If you look from above it, the pattern will look similar to a skull.

Ghosts can be very white in color with the shading on the head, or they can be an off tan color like mine with the shading on the head.

  4. Nice job you whipper snappers!! :)

I loved fishing that place....next time try the power plant...

Thanks Andy! Ive been wanting to fish that place for a while now lol, maybe next time we go we will try it.

Also stopped in at the shop and talked to Anna for a bit, she is doing well.

  5. So yesterday Brendan, Kyle, and myself decided on going to our states capital to fish the grand river which runs through it! This is not a big river by any means but has been known to produce some good fish back when guys in CAG used to regularly fish it. Brendan and i have only been here twice and it was for fish-ins which were a good few years ago, so we have never fished it properly.

The day started off with Brendan and i swinging by Kyle's house at 4:00 AM to drive the 1.5 hour drive to Lansing. We got a few things ready at Kyle's and stopped at the gas station on the way out. We arrived a little later than we were hoping but did have rods out a little after 7:00 AM. Actually while getting down to my spot i spooked a few carp feeding near the bank!

I decided to set up on the boardwalk down there, while Brendan and Kyle set up to the right of me near a few snags. Now the river was up and the current was pretty bad as we had a lot of rain in the past few days, but this didn't seem to hurt us much. Within 30 minutes i had my first run and after a long fight i banked a long 24lb 14oz common! not a bad way to start.

Shortly after Kyle had his first run which did not put up even the slightest fight surprisingly, he landed a healthy mid-teen common!

My next run was a huge surprise to me, when i saw it in the water i saw a very black head. I turned to brendan and i said did that look like a ghosty to you??? Sure enough the head popped up and we saw that it was a ghostie, and after an intense fight it slipped over the net cord! This is my 5th ghostie ever and a new PB! Afterwards kyle hooked and landed a nice low-teen common!

This is when things started to go bad for Brendan, He gets his first run and its fighting like a good fish unfortunately it gets snagged up in an underwater tree he was fishing by and his hook-link parts :( The fishing slowed down a lot after morning but fish still cam every so often. I had one more small fish at the end of the morning, Brendan and Kyle both hooked a couple more fish and lost them to the snags they were fishing by. Finally a couple hours before we left Brendan hooks his 3rd fish and this time he goes into the river and near the snag to hopefully pull it away and that he did! He had his first in the net and it was a beautiful 24lb 8oz common!
