  1. I sure like my Chub S Plus, but recently picked up a RH Cabrio 2 Man Bivvy from Roger which I need to try. Reviews to be posted shortly.

  2. Anybody know why why carp turn dark in the winter. Winner gets a free jar of CUKK/Big Bobs corn. Pm me with your answers.

I personally believe many factors play a role here!

Genes = carp were introduced to Canada, who knows how they were bread or may have cross bread with fish people may have released into the wild. I once read a story that an angler caught a 22kg koi carp from a wild river. The mention river had Pike, wels catfish, perch, Zander and many other creatures that would have made a quick meal out of an orange colored fish in the wild. That fish was released 15 years earlier by an angler who had purchased the koi as bait, not catching anything he decided to release it into the wild. That fish grew to be 22kg.

Diet = The stuff carp feed on. The pigments in those stuff end up coloring the fish, just like flamingos being pink ( due to the shrimp they feed on ). As you are aware, salmon raised in pens get supplements of dyes that color the flesh. Wild fish don't need that crap as they get it naturally from the food they eat.

Breed = As stated earlier, the carp in North America were stocked and they may have been a darker species of fish.

Pollution = who knows the effects of all the stuff people flush down toilets. I have read that the medicine flushed down toilets that ends up in rivers and streams affects the gender of fish. Maybe some other element is affecting the color of the fish.

Finally, maybe this is a new species of Steal City Carp. Maybe the fish is the beginning of a new population being established in HH. I would really be a happy man if I catch one.

Hope my theory gets me a jar of Cukk, if not its was fun sharing my thoughts. Cheers!

  3. Long Sault parkway, as soon as you take exit 781 on the 401 easy ( if I remember correctly ) the rd takes you there. The view of such a venue is breath taking, its the stuff dreams are made of.

  4. Hi Bill

Cornwall & long Sault is the carp Mecca of Ontario. You can pick up a license from Canadian tire and you can buy any additional carp gear that you need from long Sault motel / Canadian carp club. They carry almost everything including chum corn @ $10 a bucket. There is a fee to enter the park but if your an early bird then you can enter for free before 7am. Make sure you spool up with braid as the fish are strong and the zebra mussel are sharp as a blade. Good luck.

  5. somebody is super excited for long sault..........

Man, you can't imagine! Mentally i'm there, physically i'm on the way! Thanks for your feedback, maybe i'll end up buying decent batteries and not the ones from dollarama! :toot:

  6. Second picture looks like the fish has got some eye issues, one protruding & the other one is shoved in! Was that the case? Nevertheless awesome fish, would love to catch one like that! You my friend just won the lottery!!

  7. I'm in the market for a new pair of bite Alarms, I am sure I'll be getting the delkims but would appreciate your feedback as to model or any other brand you guys might recommend. Awaiting your suggestions!

  8. Co2 is a very heavy and dense gas, a heater that size in a bivvy needs only about 9 square inches of ventilation. I've never had an issue and sleep with my heater on all night, I leave the bottom of my bivvy door open just a small amount at the bottom, drafty but better safe than sorry.

Im not not worried about the CO2, Im worried about CO which is a colorless odorless gas and a true killer! once you fall asleep you will never wake up. CO deprives you of the oxyhemoglobin which leads to brain damage, so making sure to keep proper ventilation should be a priority when using heaters!

  9. Come through kansas and I can get you your grasser. Big ones too.

I love grassers, real torpedos, they fight like hell & the initial run is like all hell broke loose!

  10. What brand it that heater Arvand? How much did it cost? Does it have a safety shut off incase the CO2 levels go too high? Thanks

To be honest Mark I really don't know and am not sure if there are any safety features. All I know is that it was a really good deal, I paid $15 for it brand new. One needs to be careful when using heaters in a bivvy, no fishing is worth getting killed by CO. If you have proper ventilation then your ok!

  11. Your right Shawn there is a balance,I'v been on the side where I worked way too much and it was not good.I really had to sit down and look at my life. You have to enjoy life,to work your butt off to make somebody else rich will put you in a grave fast. We're here for a good time, not a long time.

I agree with you Mark, these days the more you work the more work they dump on you, the more productive you are the higher the expectations and the more profit you bring the less they pay blaming it on a slow market!!! Hello more profit means a booming market, have I missed something?? Anyhow you need to get the balance right as Shawn said, work and enjoy as much as you can cause we have a limited time on this planet and the only thing you leave behind is memories! Just make sure they're joyful ones for your wife and kids.

  12. Back in March I was fishing with my buddies, Shawn, Mark, Nathan & me son Guyve, having a heater saved my @$$. Working in the desert has thickened my blood so that little heater did us wonders! Also the shelter Shawn put up really helped in blocking out the wind and allowed us to cook up a decent meal. With the wind constantly blowing in the colder months you really need to invest in a proper bivvy! Without it your fishing will be a miserable outing and your more likely not go out a second time after enduring the cold.
