  1. I would like to add that there has always been a flea market at the CCC and there will be again this year. Open to private parties and to dealers. New and used goods.

Borofc, when your contributions to CAG, either time or goods, reach 1% of mine (or David Moore's), I might be willing to listen to your ill-considered, uninformed comments. Until then, put a cork in it.

  2. Bringing it to the top, yeah right. Your post was 21 minutes after mine. I don't think it had sunk that far down.

I do have the permit and a little more knowledge. It should go smoother next time. Trouble is, one never knows what they will be looking for. On a previous shipment, they went nuts because of fishmeal. So I ordered baits without fishmeal and they went nuts over mad cow and Exotic Newcastle disease. Who knows what it will be next time.

  3. Chris, I will be flying to Austin and will send some stuff down. I will probably be out of the bulk pineapple by then (may well be out by Monday, they are flying off the shelf).

Phil, you never pass up a chance at a cheap shot, do you. One of these days I will be clever enough to shoot back :D Air-tight, factory-sealed bags. They are as soft and smell as wonderful now as the day they were made.

  4. Clean the rod. Make it look nice for the beginning of the season
I was about to start an arguement with you over that but then you saved yourself with....
Do not clean your grips unless you want to lose all fishing mojo

Rods gotta be a little bit crusty.

  5. A weigh sling is the best bet, any good carp tackle store should be able to set you up with one. Failing that, you can weigh it in the landing net, preferably with the handle removed. Zero the scale with either the weigh sling or landing net hanging fromm it, then add the fish to get an accuracte weight.

  6. The normal set up is to use an electronic bite alarm with either a swinger or a hanger (these are the bobbins, swinger is on a metal arm, hanger is on a cord or chain). In order to set off the alarm, the line must move through it, turning the roller wheel (some work on vibration but that is another story). A run will pull the line through over the roller wheel. A dropback (the fish picks up the bait and swims toward you) will cause the line to go slack. The weight of the bobbin then pulls the line through the alrm, setting it off. A dropback probably would not register without the swinger or hanger.

A top quality set-up that would be WELL under your budget could include:

    Fox A-Pod

    2 WB&T Electronic Bite Alarms

    2 9v batteries

    2 "U" Butt Rests

    2 Fox Micro Swingers

Many other options are available that would also stay within your budget.

  7. Where in Wisconsin are you? Anywhere near Chicago? If so, you should stop in for a visit, good chance to see and learn about carp gear.

The Carp Anglers Group is the national organization, the President and a fair number of members are in Wisconsin.

  8. the pioneering suppliers of Carp gear in the US

I suspect there might be more of these than many of you realize. Here is a quick list off the top of my head:

    Nigel Griffin - EuroTackle

Fritz Vatter - CarpSense (Canada but supplied the US)

    Peter Clapperton -

Andy Grantam - Specialist Angling Supply

    Aurora Tackle

    Additions? Corrections?

  9. one has to admire a co-founder of a new tackle store who finds a way to publicly acknowledge competitors in very nice terms in his launch message

    Agreed.

Two out of the three are chronically nice, great guys to hang out with. Gotta wonder how they ended up with David. :D
